New player experience review from a PC vet
I have about 3k hrs on PC and bought the game on PS5 a couple days ago because I'm confined to my recliner for a week. I figured I'd review the new player experience as someone who has a ton of experience in the game. Note that I have only really played survivor on console.
Tutorial: Right away, this is absolutely horrible. You don't tell survivors what a pallet is or how to use it. Furthermore, the tutorial implies that that survivors should attempt to kobe while on hook. WHAT?!?! How is the tutorial this bad in year 5?
Gameplay: Nobody knows how to play. That's to be expected, but it's also a huge problem when every self-defense mechanism survivors have is locked behind a massive grind. Survivors don't know about BT. DS is a DLC and requires leveling Laurie. Killers don't know how to patrol or find people, so they sit on the hook and tunnel off the hook. It's a wonder anyone sticks with this game. Things that make the game baseline PLAYABLE for an inexperienced player are behind a massive...
Grind: Perhaps the most egregious part of the new player experience right now is the grind. It's absolutely insane. I've put about 10-15 hrs in on survivor and don't even have a teachable perk unlocked yet. I can't imagine a scenario where I would ever grind everything out again like I have it on my main account. I would straight up quit the game if I lost my progress rather than go through this grind again. It has to change.
Anyway, those are some thoughts from a 3000 hr PC player who got the game on PS5 on a whim. I'll drop it once I can play on PC again, because the grind is asinine.
