Spirit has always been considered to have no real in chase counterplay by the people that picked her up day 1 (after ptb).

Very few people played her as most had made up their mind from her terrible PTB version, or they weren't playing with headphones and didn't understand her. As someone that picked her up at launch I realised her strength very quickly.

Then Billy's add ons got nerfed, and a significant portion of Billy players got the rude awakening that they weren't actually good at Billy and were just being carried by instasaw builds. Needless to say that after she became the new "easy win" killer I very quickly realised just how insanely boring she is to play against and dropped her for more fun killers.

Is it actually rank 15? 😂 well there’s a surprise

Should see a Hillbilly at rank 15. They absolutely crush other teams

I cant tell if youre just trying to bait, if you are wp

If not, stop acting like all youre going against are sweaty SWF. I understand your favorite streamer probably thinks so as well but I think its time for you to form your own opinion

That’s perfectly understandable and I respect this.

Personally, Spirit will always be my favorite regardless of anything, but I can understand seeing how others play her may be a little..

Dehumanizing. A lot, sometimes. I try not to be that toxic Spirit main still. Especially since I don’t play Killer often anymore.

On another note, good luck finding a main. My suggestions are Oni or Plague (my other favorite), but feel free to Main who’s best for you. 🤗

As if it really matters what skill level a survivor is at when they face Spirit. She as literally no counterplay outside of guessing and maybe perks, but that’s it. He had a very relaxing time, even more so than playing survivor in a 4-man SWF like we usually do.

I respect that. As long as you aren’t toxic and don’t have a huge ego I can respect anyone just trying to have fun.

I dont get where you’re pulling your stats from.

I play on PC EU. Seeing survivors with 2500-6500 hours is the norm. These survivors are certainly not rare.

The god tier spirits? Now those I never see. Most are boosted by tunnel and NOED like all killers.

This is how I know you’re just repeating what you’ve read online, you act like Nurse has so much counterplay while Spirit has none. Spirit has far more counterplay. Nurse can teleport through walls ffs there’s a reason she’s the top killer in tournaments. The tourney players all agree Nurse is much stronger. Someone like zubat a very experienced killer says Nurse is much stronger, and then you have survivor mains like angrypug, salty and with thousands of hours lol but has seen it all and knows Nurse is stronger and theres NOTHING you can do against a great Nurse. Im only using these as examples but its something you’ll hear again and again by people who have thousands of hours on the game and have seen and gone against it all over the years. You can day Spirit is easier to play but you can’t say Nurse has more counterplay, or that its easier to beat a good Nurse. Nurse is the only killer in the game that at this moment in time could actually be called op.

Nobody complains about Nurse because nobody sees her anymore, let alone good ones. Spirit is only hated so much because she’s popular.

Come play my region and you will see that is the case. Those that have playtime listed start at 2k hours minimum, ive seen it go up to 7000 hours regularly.

Console survivors are just as good but cant see their playtimes but they tend to do 4man swf a lot more.

Its actually much rarer to see a killer on this level and if you do its either a streamer or a Russian nurse likely practising for a tournament (god hep you if you go against this, slugging and tunneling at 5 gens with stretched res). This makes sense with the queue times because nobody wants to play killer, so most left are either green rank casuals or people that play for a living

I play on the same servers and rarely if ever see a good team during peak times. I sometimes get good matches during the day but for the most part the survivors I VS nowadays can barely play.

It's been happening since around the Deathslinger launch for me. I'm considering disabled cross play and seeing if that improves things.

I never liked Spirit as a killer, she's frankly the only killer I've refused to buy because of her design and power being busted.

I've been playing Spirit daily now and I 4k at Rank 1 with double pips about 90% of my matches and 3k the rest with a pip or sometimes a double pip. I'll keep doing it until something about her gets changed because right now, it's ridiculously easy to win with her.

We did. Rank 14-20 gameplay as we expected. Any killer can clean up at those ranks.

Sad part is? The developers balance around this level.

If spirit is so braindead and easy then lets see your friend take on a rank 1 swf with meta perks. Should be easy right?

I have videos of me destroying Rank 1 Survivors with Spirit and not being merciful as a Rank 1 and still double pipping.

  • GannTM
    GannTM Member Posts: 10,893

It doesn’t matter how good the survivors are, just look at how easy he made it look to pinpoint exactly where a survivor is. She has no specific learning curve outside of basic killer knowledge. Tracking by sound and scratch marks can be learned by literally any other killer in the game.

  • Zaytex
    Zaytex Member Posts: 841

I mean, she's pretty miserable for the survivors, but then you pick someone like Wraith and get bullied by a competent team lmfao.

Play what you enjoy, survivors already have it pretty good.

  • Shroompy
    Shroompy Member Posts: 6,789

Regions don't make a difference on the skill of people you verse... I play at all times and maybe 1% of games if a sweaty SWF, I don't mean your typical "toxic SWF" who click their flashlights and t-bag, I mean ACTUAL tourney squads and those are the most fun games for me since they actually bring a challenge.

This game is not as much of a sweat fest as you think

  • Dizzy1096
    Dizzy1096 Member Posts: 918

Yeah and the number of killers you run into that are 5000 hour tournament players are very slim too.

Fact is that balance trickles down. If killer and survivor aren't balanced at the highest level with ultra good and experienced players on both sides, then they aren't balanced for good players either. I see plenty of good swf at red ranks, all know how to loop well, all have a lot of game knowledge, all play smart. All spread out and rush the gens. Killers like Trapper and demogorgan don't suddenly become viable against this. Hell I see players with more hours than many tournament players, only difference is they probably don't have unique call outs for part of the map but its easy to describe areas anyway.

  • ChiTenshi
    ChiTenshi Member Posts: 877

Wouldn't say the Spirit needs an overhaul but sensible tweaks to the right areas to make her more skill-based.

I'd opt to nerf her post-phase bonus movement. Remove the training wheels from her.

  • Shroompy
    Shroompy Member Posts: 6,789

Thing is, how is it a problem? Every game out there that has a competitive scene only has a small portion of the game thats actually "viable" at the highest level of play, DbD is no different. The only difference that DbD has compared to these other games is that they usually have an accurate ranking system and a separate ranked mode.

I'm not good enough at the game for the killer I play to matter that much, so I can play whoever I want and not feel bad.

So your friend doesn't play Killer.

Presumably a Rank 20, where Survivors sit in corners and do nothing.

Not sure if this is a good comparison.

  • GeneralV
    GeneralV Member Posts: 11,699

And? He has been my main ever since I first started playing and I think OP would like him. This has nothing to do with difficulty.

  • GeneralV
    GeneralV Member Posts: 11,699

First of all, no killer is "braindead". Even the easiest ones require basic killer knowledge.

Second, you shouldn't say it like that. Especially to a long time Freddy main.

  • MigrantTheGreat
    MigrantTheGreat Member Posts: 1,379

All these comments that I'm reading I'm trying to wrap my brain around a few things and understand something?

    1. Why is it that killer's have to have and use 90% brain power to even be skillful. but it's okay for survivor to be brain dead and not even remotely use 20% of their brain to be skillful?
    2. Why is it that a when a killer requires you to play differently or to even use your brain that killer is broken?

I don't consider Spirit broken because playing as her will help you understand how to counter her. "sHeS a GuEssInG GaMe" 90% of killer gameplay is guessing and hoping.

"All you need is just a good pair of headphones and Stridor" Yes because the headset is doing the killing and not the player who knows how to predict and has a good hearing. Damn must be really upsetting that Stridor was designed to counter IW.

If any killer's are boring it should be the killer's that you just hold Shift + W because you ain't gotta use your brain to do something you've been doing for 1k+ hrs

  • [Deleted User]
    [Deleted User] Posts: 5,229

I wish they would make changes to spirit just so people should shut up about it in all honesty. Like even if they gave her counterplay but buffed her and her win rates went up not down; everyone would stop complaining. lol

  • BadMrFrosty
    BadMrFrosty Member Posts: 1,100

Typically, I've found a lot of players who main Spirit don't have the patience or skill to play nurse, so they just crank the volume on their headphones, run the best meta perks, and go afk playing MiNd GaMe SiMuLaToR (bonus points when you make the guessing even more interactive with stridor). There's no real skill that goes into just 'hearing real good and zooming', but a lot of Spirit mains, I theorize (me forming an idea, but not necessarily saying this is fact), are terrified of losing or not 4k'ing. So they do whatever they can within their power to win, and their killer of choice reflects this. If she's ever changed to require even the tiniest amount of actual skill, these people are in for a rough reality when they have to switch to Nurse (and actually overcome her many bugs/issues) or play other killers.

Yeah Freddy requires you to know how to play m1 killer and you will not be as successful if you don't know how to play dbd or never played dbd. This means he's hard to play. Sorry, my mistake

i watched the first 2 minutes. That Adam does what every survivor does who doesn't know how to play against Spirit: he runs in a straight line with an obvious path to a structure. Those are easy downs for every Spirit. Second hit on Cheryl: well, Rancor. She obviously didn't move so it was easy to figure out she is hiding there. Third hit against Meg: He's saying "she's too easy" after downing her without even using Spirits power against her. I ended the stream after this. Those survivors were obvious noobs and he was biased from the start. He wasn't even using the sounds to pinpoint people, it was just very obvious were they were. I'm usually rank 1 after some days past rank reset at EU servers. Come and play against some of those guys. I still lose matches or 2k with her even tho i have maybe 300-400h alone with her (she's not my main anymore tho).

    • 90% of Spirits are Bots. They can be easily outplayed by faking a run to a pallet, stop and walk away. Or drop the pallet on the "wrong" side. Slow vault or fast vault in a direction she doesn't anticipated. I escape fairly often against the usual Spirits
    • Nurse is much stronger. I've never seen a (non-cheating) slugging Spirit with Infectious killing everyone in the first 2 minutes. A good Nurse is horrible to play against and much more unfun to me, even though i would say i'm fairly okay in juking and mindgaming the mediocre Nurses
    • There are some "guaranteed" downs for Spirit if she doesn't mess up but even then you can try to juke her/ mindgame her (double back, change direction, fake your scratchmarks and walk away, be creative!) to gain distance. I don't think that's unfair at all. If a Bubba caughts me in a deadzone, i'm dead, end of story. Mindgaming is part of every killer gameplay btw. Saying it's not counterplay is just wrong, because if you mindgame my M1 Wraith at a L-T wall then you just countered me. If i would have caught you with Wraith in a deadzone it would be a free hit, how is that more fair?
    • Remember it's about wasting the killers time and Spirit is a very slow killer after using her power. She can either use it in chases OR for map traversal. Survivors always complain about not having this absolute shutdown hard-counter, but you're not supposed to deny a killers power completely. You're not supposed to run someone for 5 gens. You're supposed to go down eventually, because there are 12 possible hook states.

Aww sorry to hear you feel like that about a main. I don't play nurse or spirit just purely because I've seen how easy it is to end a match with 4 gens left and all of them are hooked. I play Michael main now. Because it's alot more fun to stalk for a little bit, ######### the players up a bit. I've never used bbq and that's simply because playing survivor I've seen how much of a pain it is. Unless there is a locker near by you can hide and count to 5 near you it's a pain in the arse. It has to be a solid fair match both sides.

Sorry to hear you've had a change of view about your main in that way. Maybe try Michael or Bubba for a little one... or the crazy assed doctor. Putting his creepy laugh aside, I love playing against him as a survivor. Especially trying to escape being chased and your constantly getting shocked up the arse ! It's comical ! Hope you manage to find a main soon you'll be comfortable with.

  • MigrantTheGreat
    MigrantTheGreat Member Posts: 1,379

Was a nurse main on console and switched PC and mained her for 3 months on PC until I got bored with her. I picked Spirit up because I liked the idea of losing sight of survivor's and rely on hearing and predictions.

There's no real skill that goes into just 'hearing real good and zooming'

At least using hearing to track something you lose sight of is more skillful than holding Shift + W and looking backwards for easy counterplay. But I forgot, survivor's are suppose to have the 51% advantage over every killer so that they can continuously not use their brain to show any skill

  • Dizzy1096

That’s a really ignorant way of looking at it. It’s like me saying survivors just want to be able to run in a circle, drop a pallet and tbag with complete safety. They’re afraid of not escaping so they desperately want killers to NOT play other killers, just keep using the ones that are easy to loop where survivors control the chase.

  • GannTM
    GannTM Member Posts: 10,893

Thanks man. I definitely have a few killers in thought like Blight, Pig, Doc, and a few others. I’ve played against Spirit a lot as survivor and just find it a miserable experience so that’s part of the reason I stopped playing her so much.

  • Dizzy1096
    Dizzy1096 Member Posts: 918

Yeah I imagine this is most of the spirit haters. They get the game, play survivor, read the reddit, watch a scott jund video, hear spirit is all kinds of OP, go into a game at rank 14 vs rank 14-20 survivors with a pre-conceived bias and in their mind have it proven true without questioning the results further

  • Sluzzy
    Sluzzy Member Posts: 3,130

Spirit is certainly way overpowered, but this is very true for the majority of killers as well. In the majority of matches survivors can not deal with killers and their overwhelming perks that halt the game and how slow and hard it is to get the objective done. Killers can track too easily. Killers can apply too much pressure. Survivors are weak.

Blight, Oni, and Nurse are all pretty strong while rewarding skill. I personally love playing as Blight, as he gives tons of flexibility to let you incorporate your own flare and playstyle. I would certainly recommend them if you are looking for a Killer that requires more skill and rewards you with positive results.

Also, with Blight, you can Faceplantx5 after hooking someone. It's glorious.

I love Blight as well. He was my secondary main when I was maining Spirit and he’s so much fun with an incredibly high skill cap. He’s the one I’m leaning towards the most to be my new main but I am keeping my options open.
