"Slugging is toxic"
Quite many survivors have a mindset that slugging is just as bad as camping and tunneling. I don't talk about 4-man slug at 5 gens but about those situations when the killer slugs a survivor to build pressure, goes to do something else and other survivors have to run to pick them up.
Whenever that happens to me, it's like "oh nice, a free hook state. I was just left here". When I slug as killer, it's usually "I just hooked you baby Meg and you got caught again. Here, have another chance".
Hooked survivor is closer to death, slugged is not. Why is it considered toxic so often?

It's considered toxic because it prohibits survivors from playing the playing the game for an extensive period of time, especially if the killer is doing it consistently.
That's why so much people complain about it, but I much rather be camped or slugged than tunneled.

To me it depends on the context. If you're slugging for pressure it's more than fine, but if you're slugging just to leave everyone on the ground for 4 minutes it gets toxic (not including if you just can't find the survs).

It could be dependant on when the slugging happens and for what reason.
For example, slugging because survivors are blindly going for the save in packs or as an endgame tactic to mop up is no issue for me, whether as survivor or killer. It's a tactic that's useful if the opportunity to do so is present.
In certain instance, like at the start of the game where a killer just floors the survivor and goes in search of others to knock down, it's certainly not fun but even then I wouldn't class it as toxic.
It slows the game down. However, it's also a situational tactic. As the unfun sample shows, the killer will just waste their time doing it. But if survivors swarm - makes perfect sense!

Slugging is fine, in no instance is it toxic outside of when it is done with intent to be so.
Such as slugging everyone when the game is over and just letting them bleed out just because you can, while standing over them to make sure they can't do anything about it. There is no reason for that, it's done with intent to BM survivors.
In no other situation is it toxic, period. You may not like it, but it's just part of the game. It's also required quite often.

These are all great takes.
Anyways, here's my take:
Slugging is necessary in many situations, such as when you down a survivor, but oh wait, Discordance goes off, better go to that gen! It increases map pressure and is pretty reliable. It's fine in general because there are situations where you absolutely need to rely on slugging, but if you intend to super-slug everyone and not hook them at all, that's also fine but I don't understand how anyone has fun with doing that.

It's just a buzzword they like to throw out there.
You leave someone on the floor because they just got farmed and instead of hooking them you give them a chance to get picked up. - "You're a dirty slugging killer".
You hook a survivor and another one is right there looping you around the person on the hook. - "You're a dirty camping killer".
Someone comes off the hook and runs at you with BT and you hit them. "You're a dirty tunnelling killer".
Some people in this game just like to throw out these words because they think if the killer uses these tactics they lost because the killers bad instead of the fact that there probably not as good at the game as they think they are.

Who cares if it's toxic I'm not here to hold their hand and make sure they had a fun time my job is to finish them all off before it gets to the end of the trial

So you'd rather rob other survivors of a chance to recover their teammates form the dying state? There's several challenges involved in that.
Maybe that survivor is using Unbreakable, and they actually get a chance to use it for once!

In my experience, survivors generally see killers trying to win the game as toxic.
Slugging is the lesser of the three evils that is required to win. You may be on the floor, but you generally get back up and can play again, unlike when being camped or immediately tunnelled out of the game.
Slugging is only toxic if the killer stands on a slug, waiting for them to bleed out for 3-4 minutes.

if anything, i love being slugged. getting value out of slugging perks like tenacity is just so satisfying for some reason

It takes 6-21 seconds to hook a survivor (3 second pick up, between 1-16 seconds carrying time, 2 second hook animation).
In that time 3 other survivors can do 18-63 charges of gens or 4,5-15,75% of their task to complete all gens. Now hooks tend to be generous and if you are moving towards where you need to go it saves some time but it's still a huge time investment and free progress you give to survivors.
If you don't tunnel and hook everyone twice before starting to sacrifice them that's 36- 126% to complete all gens you're just giving away. This ofcourse doesn't include travel time of the survivors so it will probably be closer to 20% but that's still huge just for the hooking process alone
So slugging not only isn't toxic. It's straight up a necessity against optimal survivors.
Forcing people to bleed out is another story ofcourse

The only time I will "slug" is like you said when I catch the recently unhooked survivor and will only slug them as to give them another chance. Other than that I don't try to slug everyone at the same time as that is kind of toxic.

Toxic and Entitlement have no more meaning in this game.
Nothing in game is toxic. If it is not an exploit or a hack and it is in the game it is not toxic. Sure there are play styles and tactics that may be less than fun for the other side, that does not make them toxic.
Play how you want, and let others do the same.

Well the term toxic is already tossed around too much in this game.
With that said: From my perspective, one of many reasons they say it's toxic is cause they can't be of any use while Dying & move extremely slowly.
I never minded if the Killer slugged me as it's over in a few minutes at most & i can do other stuff while waiting, but as boring as i may find Survivor gameplay to be, being slugged is way more boring.
But again, using the term toxic for it is way overboard if you ask me.

you probably never play for the killer, otherwise you would have understood that this tactic and it is sometimes necessary to win. Play with slugging it is quite difficult.

slugging not against the rules.

But if the killer hooked you it would still "prohibit you from playing the game". You'd be dangling from a hook waiting for your teammates to save you instead of recovering on the ground waiting for your teammates to save you.
I don't get this argument.

I just hate when I get picked up just to go down again.

I see it as the killer granting additional chances to learn from your mistakes and promote team care. Being left on the ground for long periods happens because of teammates ignoring you.

also leaving the 1st survivor on the ground to get the 2nd and 3rd survivor that you've seen as you was chasing and slugging the 1st survivor, feels so damn good when.......... oh yeah..........soon you have bleed out match and its funny but effective.
4th survivor will typically hide, not really not many survivors that just hide when im playing unless i play survivor once like every 200 matches or something like that number idk, yeah i still get scared playing as survivor.

Because hooking survivors is intended, not slugging. Doesn't mean people can't slug though.

Get something straight, survivor mains. If slugging is toxic, so is doing generators, saving your teammates, looping and dropping pallets, vaulting windows etc.
Just because you don't like something, does NOT make it toxic.

Slugging when most gens are done and you need to start killing off survivors is fine. Slugging everyone right out the gate with no gens done is another story.

Do you think it’s wiser to wait until it’s likely too late to play effectively or do it right from the start?
1 -
Probably wiser to wait. If you come right out the gate slugging and the survivors manage to all get up it’s going to turn bad all around. They are going to start being toxic, etc to the killer. It will just turn into a miserable match for everyone. Not to mention if you just slug everyone in the beginning you as the Killer won’t get a lot of BP. No multiple chases, etc.

A 4-man slug is a tactic that's fair enough on its own, but I do wish there was some kind of contingency so the first sluggee doesn't spend 3 minutes unable to do anything about the fact that they're losing.
I'd personally want survivors to always be able to pick themselves up from the dying state, but it would require crawling over to a generator and then doing a 15 second standing up animation on top of a full recovery bar. If a killer has given you that long (That's usually, what, a full minute? Two?), they don't deserve the hook.
1 -
Gaining bp is an entirely different discussion.
waiting until gens are powered is absolutely not wise. The survivors could be spread out, positioning could be bad, hook placement, gate placement etc....
either side has to make moves to win when they are presented.
just my opinion

4-man slug at 5 gens
If survivors allow it. I see survivor, I hit survivor. If 4 end up on the ground, how is it my fault?

It's boring whether you are the downed survivor, or the one having to pick them up.
I don't feel "pressured" or that the killer is "doing their job", I'm just completely uninterested in the match.
In a game where no survivor is a buffoon, usually, slugging isn't horrible in its entirety, but the average solo match half the people are just crawling everywhere with no recovery, or the people trying to pick them up are in chase and snowball the already annoying situation.
I'll say this every time, it's the equivalent of the survivors being able to disarm the killer and slow them. the killer would just look around as gens pop and totems are cleansed, the same way a survivor sees the killer perform all these actions while the survivor is on the ground just...waiting.
The killer isn't being a slasher icon, or a scary/horrific being, it's just lame. plain and simple.
If you're okay with being lame, that's cool I guess. I suppose creating lame gameplay is a requirement sometimes, but that doesn't take away the lame from the game.
