What is Boosting?
I was trying to get the killer to hook me for an achievement and he kept ignoring me so I would run behind him and unhook the other survivors thinking he would stop me yet he/she wouldn't which figures. Murphy's Law I guess.
Anyways then a player said we were boosting and would report it and I don't know what that is. I was just trying to get hooked so I could try and free myself for the Steam achievement Escape Artist.
So is that boosting? Trying to get the killer to hook you for an achievement and if so it's not allowed?

Maybe I'm dumb, but I don't what "boosting" is either.
They may have been trying to call you "boosted", which is an insult meaning you suck. They likely called you that because you were unhooking them directly next to the killer.

Maybe. I don't why me unhooking them next to the killer would be reportable. See it done all the time though usually the killer is trying to stop the other survivors from unhooking each other and in this case the killer was ignoring me for some reason.
Figures since I didn't want the killer to ignore me. When you would prefer they ignore you they don't and when you don't want them to ignore you they do. Figures doesn't it? ๐

To my knowledge, unintentionally farming your teammates isn't bannable.

My thought on it was always that using other people in order to appear as having more skills than you actually do. I never go the definite definition so that's what I always, for example a bad survivor in swf managed to get rank one they'd be "boosted."
What you're probably being accused of is "farming" which is a bannable offense, or in other words working with the killer to get more points. It's all nice and good when all four survivors are farming with the killer but when there's one not being part of the group then yeah, you'll get reported. The killer was just ignoring you so I doubt you'll actually get banned.

I wasn't farming my teammates. Is that what Boosting is?

Boosting is when a Survivor gets down to low ranks, like Red Ranks, by being in groups with players much better than them. Making their rank "boosted".
I have no idea what "boosted" means in the context of this example though.

Well many times the killer is going to intentionally ignore you to get another quick hook state off the person you farmed. Survivors have a very valuable resource in the amount of time they can simply hang on a hook. Rushing another hook state is super advantageous to the killer.

They were ignoring the survivor I unhooked also. They would hook them and I would start to unhook the survivor and the killer would just ignore me and the one I was unhooking and go look for another survivor.
At the end of the match I took a protection hit to protect the other remaining survivor so they could escape through the exit gates and the killer ran off after the survivor escaped leaving me in the match still alive and standing right in the exit. Was kind of strange actually. I'm thinking that they did it on purpose because somehow they knew I was trying to get hooked.

Well if the killer was ignoring everyone I totally misunderstood. In that case I have no idea what was happening. Donโt worry about it then. ๐

I'm almost certain it means he thinks you and the killer were working together.

that happened to me before three PS4 players 1 killer 2 survivors working together ruined the game one deliberately died and was feeding information to there friend where me and a feng was and leading the killer to us then they point farmed at the end

How would that even be possible for a survivor and killer to know each other and work together in a public match? The odds must be very low with it set up which killer it is going to be at the beginning of the match. Isn't somewhat unpredictably on which player is the killer for the match since is based the skill of the killer and if they are the next killer in line for a match of that skill level?

Now that sounds reportable. That definitely wasn't what I was doing. Just wanted that achievement and it all gets blown out of portion. ๐

Boosting is defined as a player who is getting help to get placed in a high-skill rank even if they don't deserve it. Since you were basically working with the killer by farming (even if you didn't intend it), it makes sense as to why your teammates would get angry considering that's how a lot of potatoes end up in red ranks since you'll most likely end up pipping.

It happens but yer and report donโt matter on consol as devs canโt ban yet which sucks

I think I gave a example with a experience i had the other day

It is often used as an insult by streamers referring to a survivor/killer who performs poorly in high ranks. I just roll my eyes whenever it happens.
