Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

The surprisingly simple way to play Trickster

I've been thinking about how much each killer really uses their ability. Obviously, you can't use your ability all the time, and you should instead wait for the right moment to use it. Think Blight or Doctor. Wild overuse of their powers is their downfall. The same is true with Trickster, but how much then should we use it? It's actually a familiar amount. With Huntress and Deathslinger, you have to line up shot to injure and down with your power, and Trickster works like that but he needs to land so many more shots. What I realized is that just like Deathslinger and Huntress, you bait that you're gonna use your power, when you're actually going for a basic attack. If the survivor stops trying to dodge your power, then you can start using it reliably again.

Basically, while chasing at loops with Trickster, you play that same tug of war with the survivor. Throw knives, they become so focused on dodging knives that their movement is bad and you hit them, they start respecting your basic attack and start looping more efficiently/predictably, so you switch back to throwing knives. Sometimes it's the mere threat of your power that makes the survivor mess up and give you the hit.

Of course, this strategy is much more applicable at the basic pallet loops that you can throw over. At rock loops, cow tree, or jungle gyms, just brute force the pallet drop. At killer shack, good luck. At TLs, you can probably knife them down. But this strat will work at the basic pallet loops, which you should try to push the survivors towards over the course of the match.

9 out of 10 times trying to dodge his knives is a bad idea actually. He has such a high firerate and ammo count that it's much better to just gain distance and get behind an object as quickly as possible, and his accuracy is so bad that at high range you are better off running in a straight line.

From my matches against him he feels more like a Nurse than Huntress/Deathslinger. Those ranged killers can get a hit after a glimpse of you so your goal against them should be to bait hits and be unpredictable as much as possible, this is not really possible with how much ammo Trickster has and how he doesn't get any penalties for missing. Against him the goal should be to have an object between you two to block his LoS as often as possible, just like Nurse. You will get hit no matter what against a good Trickster, just make him take as long as possible to hit you with each knife.
