[Cosmetic Contest 2021] Yui Kimura - Angura Kei
This is my first time posting on the DBD forums & the first time (in a long time) submitting art work for a contest. To be honest, the reason I chose Yui for my design model is mostly because I love old school Japanese clothing styles, especially Visual Kei & Angura Kei (an off shoot of Visual Kei that mixes glam/punk rock with Japanese traditional clothing).
"Angura Kei" means "underground style" which is in reference to ". . . clothes [tend] to be heavily influenced by traditional Japanese elements as well as the Showa era (1926-1989) but with a Goth spin to it. The make-up usually consists of shironuri, and is dark and heavy. While kimono are the most common used by visual kei artist, the style also often features modified japanese school uniforms. Motifs and accessories are themed around post-war Japan and the occult.", according to the aesthetics wiki page.
Angura Yui's hair & make up are inspired by my most favorite musician Toshi, from the band X Japan (one of the bands that began the Visual Kei style/movement in Japan in the 1980's).
I'm not sure what else to say about this, except that I'm proud of it & that it was a lot of fun to work on these past few weeks~
