Devs, is stretched resolution an exploit?
Need a confirmation from a mod/developer, not a player, thanks.

they won't answer because otherwise they have to answer why it is not fixed since release

Although I'm not a dev or mod, it is an exploit as it's an unintended mechanic that can be abused by altering something outside of the game, similar to the J flick.
10 -
I need a direct confirmation from a dbd team member
1 -
@not_Queen confirmed in Tru3Tal1nt's stream a while back that it was. I cannot find the exact VOD but there's a forum post about it form that time to back up my point of it indeed existing.
Please do not go and comment on, or necro, this thread. Its simply here to back me up that it did, in fact, happen.
They said that the team "want to deal with it" but "there are more important exploits to deal with first" according to thsi Steam Forums post here:
Is not_Queen a suitable dev or would you like me to get someone else?
13 -
So it's been a year since the exploit was acknowledged and 4 years since it's been discovered by players. Brilliant.
8 -
By all means offer your own skills to BHVR to fix resolution scaling and stop it.
10 -
Is it my job to provide fixes for the problems that have been discovered and acknowledged for years?
Is it my job to provide tech support for the game that I AM paying for?
Stop being ridiculous please.
19 -
Alternatively, maybe fixing resolution scaling could be kinda difficult. So even though it's been acknowledged and they're attempting a fix then it's harder to actually fix than they first thought.
After all, fixing resolution scaling is significantly easier said than done.
So if you have the technical know-how to prove that it's easy and can be done quickly and BHVR are just lazy and survivor sided, then by all means please offer your vast technical abilities to BHVR and fix it.
This game is broken as #########, but it's because the base game is made with blueprints and they're the definition of spaghetti code. I complain about the bugs all the time but recognise that bugfixing in this game is hardly an easy task.
10 -
time for scott jund to make a video about it
1 -
There's literally no excuses for not fixing ANYTHING in a YEAR.
6 -
Fixing bugs in this game is a mess. But it shouldn't be that hard to release an official statement that stretched res is considered an exploit and can get you banned. They did it when Legions addons were broken with the infinite mending, why not here?
2 -
Ah yes May 2020, over a year later and it’s still on the backburner with no fix in sight. Meanwhile I’m sure Blight will get a flick fix real soon.
It’s easy to see which side gets priority if you look at the past 4 years. Heck they’ve admitted it themselves that survivor side is a priority. Afterall its why most people play DBD

Did you know that some problems are more ✨complex✨ than others?
8 -
No excuses for not fixing ANYTHING of the caliber of such exploit.
3 -
That's because one thing is easier to fix than the other. That's it.
Why do you always think that the devs are survivor sided? They clearly aren't.
3 -
Did you know that some problems are more ✨complex✨ than others?
5 -
BHVR can't even fix slugged survivors not making sound after 5 years, do you really think they'll have a fix for stretched res anytime in the foreseeable future?
6 -
Yes the DS nerf clearly shows how survivor sided they are.
So does the blight camera change. And the wraith buff. And removing maps that prevented survivors being hit.
Please devs revert all these back otherwise it shows how survivor sided you are.
2 -
How long did it take?
0 -
There are no excuses not to fix an exploit in a year =)
3 -
Did you know that some problems are more ✨complex✨ than others? :)
2 -
no excuses. games are developed faster.
7 -
And killers still get server advantage when ping is high, has been there the whole game. So does that mean killer benefits last longer?
0 -
Do you know how to implement resolution scaling, particularly in dbd? Because I don't, but I'm assuming it's pretty difficult, considering the spaghetti code base. If someone does know and can prove to me that it's easy then I'll eat my words.
Know what isn't going to help? Continually bitching about it over and over when it cannot and will not make it get fixed faster. It's the exact same as matchmaking; making new posts about it won't make a functional, perfect MMR release any sooner.
Also, "games are developed faster"? This makes absolutely zero sense in this context my guy.
So again, some problems are more ✨complex✨ than others.
You got your answer; a developer has confirmed stretched res is an exploit.
There's no reason to continue this discussion if you're going to continue being a petulant child.
8 -
Ouch he gonna have to spend a lot on burn ointment
6 -
Answer my question first.
Or, I'll do it myself, since you seem to be incapable of doing that.
>So does the blight camera change.
Something that was supposed to be done after PTB, was done only 7 months later.
>And the wraith buff.
Took years after Wraith's last noticeable change.
>And removing maps that prevented survivors being hit.
A rare exception.
I would also like to remind you about DS nerf that took 2 years. Pallet vacuum fix that took 2 years and so on.

Guess forbidding to change txt file (a way to achieve stretched res exploit in the first place) isn't an option
2 -
Then they just edit their desktop resolution which is a built in feature and does affect the game.
4 -
They forbid the change to the .txt files and you know what then happens?
NVIDIA control panel, this took me a grand total of 8 seconds to do to achieve a stretch of 1080*1080, 3 of which were waiting for the program to open.
So yeah, feel free to lock the .txt file and see how that does literally nothing to stop stretched res. Any more bright ideas?
(This, for the record, is why I keep talking about resolution scaling because that's how you stop it for good.)
3 -
Honestly 1080x1080 sounds horrid on a normal desktop. In the game obviously it looks great i guess from the pictures ive seen. But holy crap.
1 -
You'll achieve the same result, you would've achieved by applying nvidia filters instead of turning off antialiasing by redacting according txt
So yeah, the idea is brilliant.
0 -
Yeah I can confirm it's atrocious to deal with and I stick to my 1920*1080 because it looks, you know, actually nice. Was just proving how easily it can be done.
0 -
Not really, because you solve literally nothing. How is that a good idea??
6 -
Because what you'll achieve won't provide the same kind of result you'll achieve by tampering with game files.
you won't get bigger FoV or anything, you'll just have a messed up res.
That's it.
1 -
But, you will though? I can confirm through testing that it provides the exact same impact, which is why I brought it up to begin with lmao are you good?
4 -
I just told you something that hasn’t been sorted for the ENTIRE lifespan of the game which benefits killers.
I don’t wanna question your math skills but I’ll make it easy for you. That’s much longer than 2 years.
0 -
Which only proves my point
1 -
You can say whatever you want, but as long as there's no proofs, such words mean nothing.
1 -
What point is that? Devs don’t fix things if it benefits killers? So they must be killer sided by your logic.
0 -
I mean, feel free to go and test it yourself if you'd like :)
I don't feel like using it in a public game, nor re-downloading it on my Switch to enter a KYF and most of my friends are busy right now. I might get back to you if you still want proof but just go into a game with your monitor's base resolution changed and see for yourself that it does, in fact, make a difference.
1 -
I guess you also think that 2+2=5
1 -
Your whole point was that things that benefit survivors take longer to fix. And now I’ve proved you wrong you have no response. Gg you lose sometimes, git gud
1 -
You've proven nothing lmao
1 -
I'm a software engineer.
It's not hard.
4 -
In which case, I apologise.
0 -
Complex.
Lol. That's ignorant. Stop being knights of an undefendable cause. Look how fast they created the daltonian filter, right after the A. (Dev) drama.
Coincidence ? No.
It's not complex. It's just NOT THEIR PRIORITY.
Just like sound bugs. Or nurse glitches. Perks rework, meta shaking. Or having a patch fully functional. You name it. Its not their priority.
4 -
Somehow most killer problems turn out to be low priority.
Not without exceptions and vica-versa, but general tendency is exactly like that.
0 -
Give it another 5 or 6 years for them to address resolution scaling. The game is in early access/beta after all.
8 -
So I guess no sound when down is very very complex considering it's been a thing since launch
4 -
1) No, it hasn't, as someone who's been playing since November 2017.
2) Yes, it actually is, as confirmed by the devs that they can't replicate it in-studio here:
So, yeah, you've just proven my point further.
