DbD Similarities to Super Smash Bros. Melee

Honestly it's kind of crazy to me how similar the competitive state of DbD is to Smash Melee. People complain about only 5 or 6 killers being viable like Spirit, Nurse, Freddy, etc. and that's almost exactly how it works in Smash. You only really see 5 or 6 of the same characters in tournaments and that game has been active for almost 20 years now. There's almost as many killers in the game as characters in Melee too. They also ban a lot of stuff that's not so competitive like stages and rules which is common in DbD like banning ultra-rare addons and limiting the items of survivors.

I guess the point of me saying this is because I don't think only a handful of characters being viable or having to ban certain things is inherently a bad thing. Of course I would love it if the weaker killers were more balanced but at this point it doesn't really bother me too much as long as the game is fun to play like Smash Melee has been for so long.

As someone who comes from fighting games. I agree with you. The difference is, that game has a good excuse because it came out before online play became standard.

I think the gameplay for Melee makes up for the small number of viable characters competitively. I don't think the gameplay for this game makes up for the fact that the number of viable killers is very small (possibly even smaller than Melee's, given that one of the running memes for this game is that the only killers that can survive against skilled SWFs are Nurse, Spirit, and Freddy). Also, the comment above regarding Melee's inability to be officially patched is a fair one too.
