Some tips regarding crows. (In case you’re new or still struggle with tracking).
Yo Killers & Survivors.
Have you ever played killer and had to face super stealth survivors, and the game comes to a complete stall?
Have you ever played Survivor and wondered how on earth the killer just found you?
I’m going to cover some things regarding the Entity’s Crows from the killer perspective, then lightly touch base from the survivor perspective.
Killers, ignoring the possibility some survivors run Calm Spirit, here are things you should try to learn to pay attention to:
- If you are out of a chase, try to keep constantly scanning the horizon (on maps that allow you to do this), not just your immediate surroundings. You can sometimes notice when a crow or two scatter from being disturbed.
- Likewise, if on the horizon or the area you are currently travelling through you notice Crows returning to their perches, this is a clue that survivors have recently been through that area (if you know you haven’t been through recently, disturbing them yourself).
- Although the volume/amount of crows vary from map to map, as a general rule of thumb, if you are travelling through an area where you can hear yourself disturbing a lot of crows, it’s unlikely any survivors have recently been in/through that area, so you shouldn’t waste your time searching around there.
- Try to distinguish the different sounds Crows make. The caw they make when disturbed from their perches is very distinguishable from the chirping the idle crows make when survivors have been inactive for too long.
Some cons to be aware of though:
- there seems to be inconsistency on the distance a killer needs to be from a perched crow before the killer disturbs one, especially on indoor, multi-storey maps. Sometimes I won’t disturb any crows until I’m literally right on top of them, and sometimes on indoor maps I’ve been fooled by a disturbed crow a full tile over, search, and realise it was ME that disturbed that crow.
- Sometimes crows idle on their regular perches will make the same chirping that they could make when a survivor is idle/afk somewhere, again fooling the killer into wasting time searching for an idle survivor that isn’t even there.
Killers, if you work on these tracking skills, if makes it much more difficult for survivors to hide from you for very long periods of time.
Survivors, you can also use the above information to improve your stealth.
- Although it isn’t reasonable to try and avoid disturbing any crows, you should definitely note where they are, and if possible to avoid disturbing them, do so. Because if you against a killer adept at the above skills, you are quickly going to get found and go down.
- If you must hide near a crow, stay/move while crouched. Unless you physically touch the crow, staying crouched will not disturb them.
- Even when running Calm Spirit, physically touching a crow will still disturb them. Take note of this.
- It can save your life against a stealth killer (except Wraith) or while a killer is using Undetectable being aware of sudden crow disturbances. It can tell you which direction the killer is coming from.
Hope i’ve been able to provide something helpful to some of you to help you improve in your matches.

As always great guide! I actually never use crows as killer since I am a bit reliant on whispers but will definitely use them more!

Seriously you should. It raises Whispers power considerably once you get good at this. Wait till Whispers procs, watch for crows.

2 types of Blendettes seeing this thread.
The one who had no idea how much more stealthier she could be:
And the one who just now found a new reason to panic when crouching in the bushes:

No. Crows will remain perched until either a killer or survivor gets too close to them. They’ll fly up and disappear for a set time (I’ve never counted it), and then fly back down to their perches.
So if they fly up, they’ve been immediately disturbed by somebody close by, and if you see them flying down to perch again, that tells you someone has recently been in that area.

Blendette’s are so predictable and are now personally the easiest type of survivor for me to find.

Most likely. The only killer that does not disturb crows is Wraith, but only while he is cloaked.

I've recently become much more aware of Crows as a survivor. I used to run calm spirit (solely due to my hatred of the Doctor) so I never really thought about them much.
Now? If I disturb Crows while sitting at a certain side of a gen I move to a different side. I try to avoid Crows as much as I can and rarely work gens with a crow on top of them. Unless indoors.
I also use them to know where the killer might be and which direction the current chase is going in. Has helped me a lot.
Edit: protip: posting on your phone is awful.

It’s just as well you’ve given up Calm Spirit as it seems to be currently bugged. Although it’s still silencing screams, it doesn’t seem to be suppressing the location notifications from Madness, Infectious Fright, Iron Maiden, Intoxication (I don’t think I’ve missed any here).

Oh really?
Damn. I guess it is good I stopped running it then. lol
I didn't even realize it was bugged. Though, there have been so many bugs lately some are bound to fall through the cracks.

Yeah thx for this. Crows are an excellent way to find survivors. If you see a disturbed crow that you did not trigger, then that means a survivor is somewhere near them. Very underrated tracking tool.

From what I've read/seen, it's about 15 seconds before a crow will come back down again.
So if you see crows coming back, then someone was there about 15 seconds ago.

I hate the Blendettes that know how to loop. Because I often think “Oh she is trouble now” and then out of the blue they mind-game and I’m like wth?? Lol

One of my regular builds is Calm Spirit, Iron Will, No Mither (4th perk varies) because it immediately combats a large list of tracking and detection abilities.
Since the All Kill chapter I was starting to get angry with how many Docs and infectious Fright users were still easily finding me. I was suspecting Restraint on Doc and would wait patiently as a spectator so I could confirm Docs load out. No Restraint add ons. (And I was also not foolish enough to stay still for too long because of illusionary Docs).
So I immediately concluded a sudden spike in hacking/cheating. However another Doc main on here confirmed their shock and surprise to find they were coming up against survivors running Calm Spirit, but during the match they were still finding those survivors because of location notifications.

Ok thanks. Good to know.
