Are chest builds underrated?
I know they are pure rng and I know they arent good build but I see them more than just a meme. I just ran apraisal plunders for my archive and got a commodus 3 green medkits a purple flashy and a rainbow map. 3 medkits and a commodus is pretty strong.

As you said it’s pretty rng based but yes it can be quite strong

Apparently there is a bug with chests granting more keys than normal. I usually run Plunderers and have noticed the rarity of items that I normally got is actually much worse than they're supposed to be. I'd wait to try out a chest build until they fix it or make one without Plunderers.

Yeah I am wondering in a 4 man you could have 1 person run plunderers appraisal and bump you're items from 4 to 10. Thats a second item for each player and a 3rd for 2 of them.

I run them when I'm running low on items and want to stock up a bit on good stuff. I only get sad that I can only escape with one item - shame I can't put some in a characters backpack Sadge.

That would be an awsome perk idea. you can carry multiple items.

It's good for farming items for future matches, but it's usually not worth the perk slots if you're trying to perform well in a specific match. You'd be better off just bringing good items into the match, running meta perks, and ignoring chests.

They're okayish, main use is farming items.
Bonus points if you're the ultra farming type who brings in a white ward, loots all the chests, then let the killer kill you with the best item + addons (and keeping it as a result of the white ward)

chests builds are amazing but time really time consuming

Chest build is mt main build. One of the strongest builds in the game but not so relevent now because chest loot is bugged

Some characters have backpacks but we can't we use them!? This is a sham! Backpack perk needs to be a thing lol. Im tired of storing them all in the basement.

This needs to be suggested...lemme keep my items that I plundered.
When Appraisal was first in the PTB I totally didn't go around and get all the items from the chests and set up shop in the killer shack - I even did it on the "round the campfire stream" :)

The real way to solve dbds grind. Give people a backpack to store their items they earned lol. I wonder if a killer hit you with franklins would you explode with items like confetti?

I love you so much. I normally bring a map with glass bead make a shop then chuck a marker there. I have also gotten spared so many times by showsing the killer my stash of items.

i dont mind using a chest perk but i certainly wouldnt run an entire build for them. here are some perks that i would run
ace in the hole- i might get an insta heal and bandages
pharmacy- free guaranteed green medkit and 80% faster looting which means you dont have to worry about wasting tiem
plunderers- now this perk is in my opinion one of the worse chest perks, the fact that it still allows you to get brown items is unbelievable
appraisal- faster looting and free items, what more could you want?

Best thing about chest build is u can bring in a powerful item with addon into the next match if previous one you survived.
I had a game where I exchange another survivor getting a brown Medkit, and give him Purple medkit with double charge addon.
He didnt need to be healed the whole game, which another survivor can be on Gen instead of healing him.

That's exactly what happened in this match, Cahlaflour spared me once I showed her my shop!

They're alot of fun and depending on what you find they can swing a match.

Dora The Explorer crossover when?

If survivors could have a bright purple singing backpack with a face it would be the new scariest thing in DBD

I run a plundering build (Imagine that) and I think it's significantly underrated. It rarely results in a hatch win (solo-q), but when I pull 2 commodious with +charge addons, purple meds with styptic agents, and a broken key with a blood amber, it can really change the game.\\
It's all in how you use it, obviously. I think if you run plunder build and try to hide items and save them for yourself your gonna lose a lot of games. Instead I place the items I get in places where the other players can see/grab them easily. A medkit in this doorway, a toolkit by this 1-person generator, etc. You can really set people up for success.
Also, a truly underrated tactic: Drop a medkit by someone right before you pull them off the hook. This allows you to run away and distract the killer, and they have the opportunity to get healed even if you're not around. Let's you do the work of two people on a budget.
I have terrible mechanical skills, but supporting and buffing my team like this got me into red ranks easily.

Yeah thats what I find most of my games do. I will have like 4 toolboxes to do gens fast 2 green medkits stashed somewhere and either a flashy or a key for chases.

J/W, what's your general plundering build?
I usually run plunder/appraisal/ace and lithe or deception.
I used to do plunder/ace or plunder/appraisal with some combo of lithe, IW, deception, and Q&Q.
For me, it seems like ace makes even the "bad" items good (brown first aid with purple addon, for example, or broken keys which are completely useless without ace), and some good items become ridiculous (like white-ward level stuff). I'd say I only pickup a "trash" item (brown with 1/2 brown addons) on a very rare occassion - maybe once every 5 games or so.

I use plunderers appraisal ace and provethyself to make up for the time I lose on gens

Yep I literally got a brown medkit with styptic in my last game lol and it extended a chase by like 40 seconds and they didnt even down me in the end.

Make a perk that allows killers to find addons in open chests, equip, and keep them after the trial. I'd love to have some variability during the match and it would incentivize killers starting matches addonless for hoarding purposes. :P

Yes and no, going full chest build can be powerful since if you get, lets say 3 purple medkits 1 key and 2 purple toolboxes they can help you inmensely.
But here is the catch, searching a chest is 10 seconds, if you burn coins and have 7 chests (for example) it amounts to 70 seconds doing nothing, you could have finished a gen with that amount of time and you may get 7 Keys (Keys are useless after the first one) or 4 flaslights which arent that good in Solo queue. The ineficiency is very noticeable if another Survivor goes for 5 Totem cleansing since its 3 people not doing gens for a lot of time (the item fisher, the totem cleanser and whoever got caught and is running the Killer).

I sometimes run something similar fun for me, but also can be really scummy. Plunder, appraisal, left behind, 4th perk w/e to help you stay hidden. Find a key, let your team die, do minimum gens to make hatch appear, one out assists find it and leave your team for dead

Pharmacy, Plunderer's, Appraisal, Ace in the Hole, luck offering or extra chests
Trade out Pharmacy for Ante Up if you want
Works pretty amazingly

I would love Franklin’s 100% more if I just exploded into confetti when it went off.

I like chest builds - they're fun.
That said, there's no point to them other than to have fun or farm items.
---
It takes 10 seconds to get 250 points searching a chest (25 points/sec) with no emblem score.
It takes 5.55 seconds to get 100 points rummaging a chest (18 points/sec) with no emblem score.
In contrast:
It takes 14 seconds to get 1,000 points cleansing a dull totem (71 points/sec) with 20 lightbringer points.
It takes 47 seconds to get 2,425 points doing a generator with someone else (51 points/sec) with up to 50 lightbringer points.
It takes 16 seconds to heal someone for 500 points (31 points/sec) with altruism emblem points.
---
Essentially, any time you spend farming a chest is inefficient compared to literally anything else you could be doing. In fact, the only event really that gives less points than searching chests is soloing a generator (1,250 points in 80 sec, or 15 points/sec), but even then that still gives you a ton of emblem points and brings you closer to survival which can net another 5,000 points.
So basically by looting chests you're dedicating a decent chunk of time and potentially perks to get nothing except the chance to get a somewhat helpful item in-game. The items vary in usefulness, but most times they're not worth the effort (unless you really need a medkit or a key specifically).
Because of the above, I wouldn't say they're underrated. They're just for-fun builds really, not that there's anything wrong with that.
