What do you enjoy about DBD?

There is so much toxicity in the DBD community. That is no secret. Often the forums are filled with complaints about one side being too strong or too weak, leading to arguments being made on the mistakes the devs make or how they are "trash developers with no devotion to their project". (This, of course, is not true by any means)

Why not turn that around? Just for once. What do you enjoy or appreciate about DBD?

Personally, I love the atmosphere. While it may not be as scary of a game as many want it to be, I don't believe any other game can achieve the same sort of feeling DBD can. I also love the soundtrack. This kind of goes along with the atmosphere comment. My favorite thing about DBD, though, is that there will always be something to make progression on. Whether it be prestiging characters, grinding for the coolest cosmetics, or getting all the perks for every killer and survivor, there is always something that a player can make progress towards each time they play.

I think the sound and music overall is superb.

I like the smash of a NOED mallet in the face of a t-bagging Dwight.

I love it when I'm repairing a gen or breaking a totem and I start to hear the heartbeat, then a couple seconds later a gen pops and the heartbeat slowly fades away

@TheMidnightRidr , I came from Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm. Toxicity is everywhere. I don't let the little kiddies bother me. I'm too damned old for that.

No other game lets me run around as Myers, Freddy, or Leatherface and hunt people. The three Icons I grew-up on as a kid. That's why I like DBD.

Rank! People say. Nah, I don't care about Rank. I cared about rank in Overwatch and came to hate logging into it anymore. DBD is all about having some Slasher Movie Killer Icon fun. Nothing more. :)

    Also...

I like dropping the last survivor near the hatch then mori them.

I like face camping someone with Leatherface knowing that they are getting angry.

I like delaying a game for an hour or more with 3 gen Doc.

I like playing against only 3 survivors and making sure they all depip.

As someone who hates pvp with a burning passion, it's weird I like this game since all it is is pvp.

Something about being an invincible killer on the hunt, and trying to avoid being found as a survivor helps, i guess.
It's like tag, no change of who is it, and more blood.
It's not like a shooter where someone can get an ideal position and just pin you down. It's not a zerg fest, or respawn fest.

The whole, somewhat simple asymmetrical pvp.
Having choice of lots of killers,  and survivors that aren't all dudes is nice. The characters are cool.

I have not quite figured out exact reasons.

I like the whole package! The music, aesthetic, gameplay, lore, community, and characters. This game made me appreciate asymmetrical games. Despite having some serious balance issues, it's still a fun experience that I play daily.

The devs really did do a pretty good job so far. Thank you @not_Queen, @Pen Spin Academy, and everybody else on the team!

I'm with @Doc_W__HOLLIDAY The main reason I play Dead by Daylight is the horror A E S T H E T I C (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQkPcPqTq4M) Aside from that I suppose I've always wanted the chance to be the villain in a horror game. It's also a rather open game, so to speak. As a killer, while it may not always end it a 4k, you can do roughly whatever you darn-well-please (except hacking, no hacking). You can slug or camp or be a friendly killer for all the devs care.

So yeah, I like the horror aesthetic, killer playstyle, and the freedom of being a killer.

    I love:
-That it's like 2 games in one (Survivor and Killer being such different roles)
-As a long time horror lover, I love what they're trying to do even if the game itself isn't scary. It has those campy old horror flick vibes sometimes. It's fantastic
-The variety of playstyles, killer powers, perk loadouts, etc
-Being able to have fun either with friends or solo
-Made some great friends because of this game, either through playing or from a community I'm in/admin on FB
-The replay-ability. No 2 games are the same, even if it's with/against the same people it will always be unique.
-The community, while there will always be the toxic crybabies, there are some damn funny people around or genuinely helpful people

People I met mostly. I usually like to say in lobby ''I'm wet for Myers'' and if they reply stuff like ''we all are'' ''who isn't'' ''same'' etc I know they are gonna be cool. Also, I like to do fun stuff like this in game as a killer, the chat at the end will be hilarious. Pluis, the survivor interacting with the killer in game it's awesome.

I think you hit the nail on the head with “atmosphere”. But let’s break it down

-I think the dev team did an amazing job capturing that horror essence. All the tropes are in play and it’s done straight-faced and sincere.

-The mind games. This game rewards wit and cunning for both sides.

-The thrill of chasing and the thrill of being chased. It’s a stealth game and a hunting game.

I love when I'm playing as killer and survivors make silly mistakes in a panic. Like if they drop the pallet on the wrong side or when you run into a pack of survivors and they scurry like cockroaches and accidentally body block each other. That makes me laugh every time. I like when I'm playing a killer and I get the killer's map. It just feels right. I like when a plan comes together. I like when I chase a survivor and they run into a dead end and they start running around in circles. I like when I blind pick a locker and a survivor just happens to be in it. I love interrupt grabs, especially the hatch.

I love the idea of what this game is supposed to be.

Playing a Survivor, you find yourself trapped in a small area with three strangers you are supposed to work together with while an unstoppable terror is stalking you to kill you. You don't know if you can count on your fellow Survivors, you don't know what you're up against until it's looking at you, and every popped gen brings an increase of both hope for escape and fear of capture.

Playing a Killer, you have this sense of power that few games give you. You are a lion among sheep, stalking your prey and instilling fear in their hearts. You may not know where your prey IS, but you know where they are going. Even if they get a few gens done, it's no big deal. That just decreases the amount of safe places they have since you now have less places to search. And the best part? The meat can't fight back. No matter what they do, they will never kill you. They will never stop you. Even if they escape, they are still trapped with you. And you'll have your chance to put them on the hook again someday. All roads lead back to the fire.

Now sadly certain mechanics take away from this idea, but for the most part this game is one of the only of it's kind.

I posted this on another topic already so yay copy paste!

My favorite thing in this game by far is my interaction with killers. I've made a bunch of killer friends because I message them after a match, simply to laugh and talk about things that happened in that particular game.

I am completely in love with the way the killer vs survivor is divided; it's hard to blame anyone else for one's own failures in DbD. The division of objectives makes it so that you can always work towards those objectives, without worrying about someone preventing you from completing them. Whereas in other games with PvP elements, you usually share objectives, and people find exploitative ways to slow you down, or to completely hinder your progress. But in DbD, say you decide as a killer to pursue someone the entire match, you are foregoing a more important objective, stopping gen progression. No one is responsible for that loss but the killer.

Because of that structure, there are a seemingly endless number of ways a match could go depending on how the killer and survivor behavior. It gives the game enough complexity to try new approaches and new strategies that aren't solely based on things like perks and add-ons, a lot of the fun comes from the high speed strategizing needed to win. Not to mention, this is one of the only games I've played where the balancing occurs at the far ends of the spectrum; the survs are overpowered as a group, but weak as a single unit. As for the killer, it's like the way the survivors behave ultimately determines how powerful the killer is.

Downing a DS user after they've used it while going through a pallet.

Downing cocky survivors at the exit gate who misjudge the distance to the exit. Especially if its a chainsaw.

Downing cocky survivors trying to hook block resulting in me getting multiple hooks instead of the one.

Winning because survivors didn't realize gen tapping that almost complete gen next to a hooked person was a really bad idea

I'm actually a 50/50 player. I have more hatred for other survivors though. You're either the killer or playing against other survivors even as a survivor. It doesn't help that the whole game is screwed up in that sense.

I like it when teamwork occurs amongst strangers in survivor. No need for talking via headsets. Just a group of strangers knowing what to do to escape :) (though of course does not happen too often)

I love it when playing as survivor and my team get wrecked.
Not because we where bad but because the killer was that good, that's when it feels most like I feel the game should be everyone is panicking and the teamwork falls to pieces I love playing against great killers.

The atmosphere. Feels like a real horror game.

Getting to face some iconic horror movie killers like Michael Myers and Leatherface.

The team work as survivor (when you get a good team).

I love the salt from survivors when on the rare chance I do get a 4k and they message me saying camper, cheat, reported etc. Some of the time I do camp if I get a toxic swf group or even just a single toxic survivor. But I don't always camp and they still say camper, reported etc.
