Is this normal matchmaking?
I bought the game last christmas and only played a bit.
I started playing the game more regularly last week again and got a better killer rank by now.
What I noticed since I got to rank 14 is that I get way more unconsistent matches. Some matches I am up against survivors with purple ranks and I still manage to get 2 kills (sometimes even 3 or 4 when they get greedy at the end). Then I sometimes have matches like in the pic, where everything is in but I don't get anyone since it feels that everyone plays like they are a pro-player (in this case especially the rank 15 player. He played like the rank 8 player).
Especially in this match it felt like they all played very coordinated and were on the same skill level (probably a group of 4 people).
Is this a normal matchmaking in this game?

What annoyed me the most in these matches is, that I can try as hard as I want but I can't do anything. The only way for me to get a kill in that match would have been camping on the hook when I was able to get someone onto it.

Then that's what you do.
If you want to win, a lot of times you have to play "dirty." It's unfortunate.

Play dirty. At best the survivors will understand, at worst they'll complain. You can close chat to not even get that toxicity. If I have 0-2 hook states on two gens complete I'll switch to 'toxic dirty killer mode' and have no shame. They're clearly better than me and I need to salvage what I can.

Rank is used for matching currently. MMR was briefly tested twice and will be activated eventually.
The issue is that there are very few Killers compared to Survivors, meaning the matchmaker will try to toss people who have been in queue the longest into a match, regardless of Rank.

I played another match after the one in the screenshot above. This time the match went the complete opposite.

The average Rank of Survivors is higher in the 2nd game, actually.

The first match might be survivor with friends. But yeah the second one is a lack of killers in this game in high ranks. Not many killers above green. So they match you with the closest ranks.

I do not believe that is accurate. Last I checked no one knows.
It is possible that they have updated it.
Assuming this is true however, rank is still useless. Its not valid for match making at all.

Rank is used for matchmaking.
I can try to @ one of the Mods to confirm.
From my understanding, it tries to match you within X ranks of your current Rank and if it takes too long, it expands the potential Ranks.

Just got 2 matches in a row against 3 red-ranked people and 1 purple rank. They probably were in a group because of how coordinated they played.
I see why many killers seem to quit on the better ranks. They all use perks which makes it very hard to get 1 kill, even with camping. The latest scenario was that I hooked someone and the others 3 came to the rescue. 2 stood in front of me so I couldn't hit the guy unhooking the 4th player. When I tried to down the one again, I couldn't because the player who unhooked him got the perk that makes the hooked player "immortal" to a hit.
The devs really need to do something against such things. Like maybe giving the killer some kind of an advantage when people to swf or making the killers more deadly in general.

That's not bad match making at all. Welcome to DBD! When I play killer, I'm level 18-20 going against red and purple rank swfs. And I've had six friends who all quit this game because match making so heavily favors killers, we couldn't even get a single gen done in most games.

Unfortunately, when you are playing against a team of survivors who know the maps, all of the tricks, and all of the perk interactions, you will have a hard time beating them, unless they make mistakes.
If they are also on comms, well then you might as well just prepare for the L, unless you're playing a meta Nurse or Spirit build.

Unfortuneatly it feels like I get these types of games a lot. There are a few matches inbetween which are easiy for me as a killer but that's mostly because those players don't have many perks and seem to be unexperienced as well.

I think there are less SWFs then it feels like. Even solo players who are skilled and not communicating can sometimes have enough game knowledge and common sense to make the game tough for a Killer.
I believe the DBD community can be split roughly into casual and "hardcore" players. You get the casuals who come on occasionally, and you will probably demolish them, I found Killer very very easy up to around purple ranks. In fact I was 4K'ing a lot without perks when I started.
When you get to the hardened survivors though, i.e. people who play the game regularly, use optimal equipment (i.e. use a headset, play on a monitor etc.), and are actually playing the game to win or improve, it's a whole different game entirely, and the fundamental imbalance of the game begins to reveal itself.

The messed-up matchmaking that's currently going on isn't helping, but even before that I'd occasionally see 13 or 14 point gaps in the player ranking. A couple of days ago I was reset to rank 15 survivor and I was placed with another survivor who was rank 1. We were all against a killer who was rank 20.

Very common actually at night. It’s terrible for killer during the afternoon/night as mm just throws their hands up. On the survivor side, it’s super easy and you rank up super fast without doing much even In solo as they may pair you with red rank teammates.
on the flip side morning/early afternoon killer is very easy as it’s solo q survivors at your rank and probably hours in the game. With survivor, if you rank up too quickly at night, you’re gonna feel a huge difference going up against the killer in your current rank.
I ranked up early on as survivor by playing at night and getting r20s with high rank teammates. When I switched to second shift and started playing lunchtime, there was so much I clearly needed to learn and had no business in red ranks at that time.
