Terrain - The Realm Beyond Update
- Terrain: An interesting new element of this rework is allowing us to explore doing more with the terrain in Dead by Daylight. There’s a possibility of creating areas that are less flat and more varied, opening up gameplay possibilities for both the Killers and Survivors as they navigate the map.
this is something the devs have highlighted in the stream/in their summary and I wondered: is this something they have already used in the map updates? Because as far as I remember most maps seemed even more ‚flat‘ after the rework than before (especially Autohaven and Macmillan).
Or is this something they will bring into all maps after they are done with the general reworks? It would be weird to only use it kn upcoming Realm Beyond map updates as there are only 3 or 4 realms left..
maybe I do not entirely understand what they even mean with this though..

Wondering what they actually mean then?
it’s probably not just some bumps on the ground.. maybe different terrain as in sand, concrete, stone, mud? Could be very cool on swamp!

Just wish the forests actually looked like ones, they just look like a bunch of trees on a pavement

This is something I'm REALLY looking forward to. Maybe Shelter Woods can have something a bit more 'unique' to it other than being generic forest map from horror games.

And don't even get me started on the "trash" on Autohaven.

Lol, you mean the same few lawn chairs and pizza boxes?

Could be coming with the Swamp rework, the only realm that come to mind when thinking about not being "flat"

Yes I do.

My guess is more undulating terrain. Currently the reagent offerings don’t really do enough in providing cover for survivors that want extra cover, or for stealth killers when they want extra cover. Undulating terrain would allow both sides better opportunities for cover (when wanting it).
It would be a big boon to Ghostface in particular, as it would prevent players from being easily knocked out of stealth of some maps by survivors 3 thousand miles away from him.

This is probably true. When i see the new Dead Zones (no loop AND no cover) as a survivor on the reworked maps, I dont just think of survivors but as killers as well.
With no cover, Ghostface cant lean behind anything in that area, there's also nothing to block Ghostface from being seen. This is true for any Undetectable killer (save for Wraith, who's already on top of you) and any killer thats going to apply Oblivious.
You already know where a killer is not going to have a chance to sneak up on you from...because there literally is nothing in certain areas.
