People who use custom perk icons: is it worth it?
Greetings survivors, killers, and both-siders of the Fog! I hope this thread finds you doing well.
So, it disheartens me to say it, but my dissatisfaction with the current state of the game gets stronger day by day. Recent changes have been extremely disappointing in my opinion, with the Realm Beyond standing proudly on top of that list.
At this point, I would do anything to return to the game I fell in love with back in 2018. I would do anything to return to the past. And, I may have found a temporary solution, yet that solution also presents itself as an issue.
The solution in question is a custom perk icon called Nostalgia, which basically consists of the old visuals (as the name implies). I believe getting a little taste of the past might make things easier for me. However, I am well aware that there is a small to get banned for using custom perk icons, and that is what scares me.
Even if things are not that good in my opinion, DBD is a game which I will always hold close to my heart, and getting banned is pretty much my worst nightmare (intended pun, obviously). And that brings me to the question:
For those of you who do use custom perk icons: is it worth the risk?
Any answer is appreciated.

The UI icons are not game files, so eac wouldn’t flag you modifying that for an intake advantage. I’ve been using custom icons forever and have never had any issues. They definitely keep the appearance fresh because I can choose from so many different ones.

That is reassuring, I suppose. I really want to do it because I think it will help, but I am so scared. If you've been using it for a long time and never had any problems then maybe there is a chance.

After some hesitation, I ended up using some custom reskins of perks, addons etc a while ago for about a month.
Despite hearing no one had ever been banned for it, it was always in the back of my mind that there was a slim chance I could be banned.
After about a month the reskins became boring. So I switched back to default. IMO it's just not worth it. You may well soon get bored of them like I did.

I see, that is also a valid point. Getting bored is not a concern, imo, because the pack I've chosen actually was the default in the past. What I am scared of, or better yet, terrified of is getting banned.

I wouldn't risk it. Are these perk skins really that much of a gray area? They don't even give an advantage, not that I notice at least.
Think about all the time & money spent, risking it for a moment of nostalgia, I'd rather watch old videos.

Well here's the thing the risk involved is a bureaucratic loop where one side says check the other side to see if its ok, and the other side says check the other side to see ok, they don't seem to care about it and there has been no history of people being banned for modifying perk icons so go for it
just find some fun ones to use, also addon and power packs to exist and you can make your own so just find what you want or make it yourself with only a little bit of practice

Watching old videos is something that I do all the time, I just think that having something in-game could help me a lot. But, as you've said, risking so many hours and money spent is a scary thought.

I've been using custom perk icons & profile portraits for about 3 years now and never had issue, never had EAC errors etc, some people are even injecting their own custom skins into the game and it's working just fine for them.

I've already found the perfect one, I am just scared of using it, even if the risk is almost non-existent. As you've said, no one has ever been banned for it, but still...

Me on console can never use custom perk icons. I'm just hoping someone can figure out a way for console to enjoy it

Yes, the risk is often considered to be pretty much non-existent. Still, I can't help but feel scared to do it, even if I think it will help me.
However, 3 years is a hell of a long time, and if you never had a single problem there might just be a chance.

I'll send you the icons hand drawn and cut to proportion so that you can tape them on your screen.

If there was a way, would you do it?
0 -
Honestly yes. I absolutely hate the fact that the perk icons are all purple. I liked the green and pink perk icons.
1 -
I see. I admit it feels weird to see perks such as WGLF and Sloppy Butcher with a purple icon. Not to mention everything I've already said.
If only the risk was 100% non-existent, it would make everything easier.

maybe you can be the 1 in 5 million, you never know
0 -
Maybe. That is why it is so scary.

I no longer use custom perk icons because I use a DBD stat tracker (NightLight), which requires its users to screenshot the endgame results and since it detects the perk icons you can't use it with custom icons.

odds of 1 in 5 million for the devs to randomly start caring and make an example out of you, the risk is too great
odds of 1 in 305 million to win the powerball, you never know

So you've used them in the past, right? Any problems, like EAC errors or something?
0 -
Nope, never had a single EAC-related thing when using them.
There is a really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really tiny chance of anything bad happening, so I can assure you that you'll most definitely be fine.
1 -
That sounds reassuring, I do hope nothing bad happens if I go for it.

Also I forgot to mention, a couple of patches ago BHVR made a change that stopped custom perks showing in game, and then a couple of patches later they worked again, they had no reason to fix it but they did so.
2 -
Yes, I remember that. Perhaps it is one more reason why I should go for it.
