Why do survivors get punished for being tunneled out of the game?

Tonight I hopped onto DBD to try and do the protection hits tome challenge. I played Ash so I could use MoM to get more hits. I don't have any of the meta sweat perks on Ash so I was just going to have fun. As soon as I touched a gen I could tunneled and camped out of the game. I got farmed by teammates and I depipped. I was almost to red ranks. Why do I get punished for the killer playing like an #########? Why do I get depipped?

Yeah but when you're a killer in those games at least you can still play and learn from your mistakes. If you're a purple rank survivor getting farmed and camped until death you barely get to play at all and a lot of times your death wasn't even your fault. It's very different.

Yep. First game of the night just got tunneled to death by a deathslinger. He was literally ignoring everyone else

To be honest none of the other survivors probably pipped that game because in situations like that it's easy to lose chaser and altruism points because of few unhooks and the killer is off serenading you under the pale blue moonlight.

Recently I had a game where it was vs. Leatherface and we had two gens done in less than a minute. Right as we were about to repeat that process he hooked someone that had Kindred, and I watched one of my teammates go into the basement to search for items. Leatherface had Territorial Imperative and we all died trying to get her out of the basement.

All it takes is one play. On the bright side if the killer is on you, you have control of the match. You can run them for a few gens very easily at high ranks if they focus on you. When you're fully red rank one day you'll see your situation as much less of an issue.

Just the way the game is, sometimes your teammates decide to leave you at the hook. Which ultimately forces the killer to chase the only readily available survivor ( AKA you ).

Other times the killer needs to assert a massive amount of pressure by attempting to get rid of a single survivor.

And sometimes the killer is a twat. Not much you can do about it other than be in a SWF to try and coordinate a rescue.

what I would like to know is why do you get bronze benevolent if the killer doesn't hit or down anyone in the match

You dont learn anything from those game its not like league were i can go check my match and analyse my mistake. Its dbd the game dont have that function and even if it does its not like you get anything for ranking up.

Because he got tunneled my guy. He can’t do anything if the killer is on him all the time.

I will say I am around low red ranks and recently in the past few days it has honestly been probably 10/16 games where I was just camped on first hook or tunneled out of the game and typically it’s around 4 gens. I don’t know what has been up recently with the camping mainly, and typically not everyone runs BT so it’s just unfun recently.

If he lead the killer on long chases and his team got gens done he would have chaser and lightbringer emblem points. It's certainly possible to pip by only being chased.

You can safety pip with Iri Chaser, Silver Lightbringer and Silver Unbroken since Alturism defaults at Bronze.

Sometimes you do get bad games and depip. It's not the end of the world. Pipping is fairly easy if you are where you should be.

It's simple, because the rank and pip system is terrible.

A couple of things, why are you mad at the KILLER when you clearly state you were farmed by a bad Survivor? Moreover, you say "as soon as you touched a Gen" which means the Killer went after you because you were on an objective. Of course the Killer is going to go after a Survivor on an objective. You aren't punished for anything, you simply don't get rewards for failing to do well. Get your priorities straight.

Both sides get punished for stupid things.

A killer gets punished for survivors being healed, which makes no sense.

I've always found that confusing. I can't get enough chases if they don't heal. That's why insta down killers chaser always sucks.

How? When killers hard-tunnel, they return to the hook before the hooked survivor has any time to get away. The survivor is injured, there are no pallets or windows close enough, simply nothing they can do about it.

Except. DS. DH. And then we'll have once again topics complaining about these two. Wonder why they are so popular.

And no, the solution is not that "just don't get caught at all!". If the matchmaking is good, survivors shouldn't be able to do that.

as soon as i touched a gen in the beginning of the game. i spawned on a gen and started working. then i was tunneled from there

Don't take this the wrong way, but I doubt it. I have found, playing both Survivor and Killer, that most Survivors incorrectly identify Tunneling. Are you a brand new Player in the Ranks 16-20? If so, you are up against baby Killers who do tend to keep chasing whomever they see. It means your teammates don't know enough to defend you. Again, that isn't on the Killer. This is the game. You either rise to the challenge or you find a game you like better. I'm not trying to be mean, just direct.

I've been accused of Tunneling when I hooked TWO people before I went back and hooked the accuser again. I've been accused of Camping when I was on the other side of the map. I've been accused of being toxic when I gave everyone three hooks and never hooked the same person in a row. In short, people MAKE EXCUSES because they don't want to take ownership of their failures. Until you do, you will NEVER get better at this game.

So, I don't think you were Tunneled, and even if you were Tunneled... get over it. Stand up, right the bike, and climb back on. We all have been there. This is a rough game on the ego, but I submit that people who stick with it gain something from this stress machine, this chaos engine we call Dead by Daylight.

so you're saying that me depipping further from red ranks was justified because a killer decided to not let me play the game? If you read the post fully you would've seen that it said I was almost at red ranks. There were no other hooks between me being unhooked and rehooked. The killer would come back to hook, chase me, down me, and hook me again. I was not allowed to play the game.

Yes. You failed to earn enough to not lose a Pip. That is on you. It is the Killer's job to kill you, not to help you earn anything. This is a PvP game and your successes are YOURS earned fairly, and so are your failures.

So you're saying tunneling is okay and perfectly acceptable and that it's the survivor's fault? doesn't sound like you play much survivor

  • Hektic3000
    Hektic3000 Member Posts: 674

Yes because 1st, rank means nothing aside from play time so don't use that as a metric for anything. The killer didn't take away your ability to play, if you want to play then don't be hooked, the killer is just playing the game given to them by hooking you. Just because you load into the match doesn't mean you're entitled to eascape, that has to be something you earn by playing smart.

How do you lead killers on long chases when the killer comes right back to the hook and hits you off the hook. Even if you had a 1 second head start, you are going to go down within 2 feet from the hook.

Game allows killers to take it hostage and depending on the mental state of that player, can really make the game awful. It’s sad but I’ve been there too.

My guy, it's a PvP game where two sides combat each other. Survivors job is to escape by any means. Killers job is to stop and kill them by any means. That's the point of the game. It's not the Killer's job to coddle and take care of the survivor as if they're on the same team. Your objective as a survivor goes against mine as a killer.

Now take a look at it from the other side. You know how many games I get where I get god tier SWF teams that are just way too good at loops or being ninjas? Legit I had a game once where I saw only 1 survivor throughout the entire game. They were very well coordinated and during the small time I went on the chase for the one survivor three gens popped. Wasn't even a long chase either (they had purple tool boxes and BNPs. I honestly don't remember their perks though). But yeah they knocked out those gens so quick that I had no idea ######### was going on. So I said fine, if they wanna just slam gens and not chase or anything then I'll let them and just move on. Guess what? I de-pipped. I don't think those survivors really gave a damn about my fun or my rank.

It happens on both sides. You will get tunnelers, campers, gen rushers, and bully squads. All you can do is just move on and get to the next game. Accept your loss and push forward.

Tunneling is perfectly acceptable since its been stated to be by the dev's multiple times, yet survivors can't get it through their heads. A survivor being on the hook or coming off the hook isn't justification for them not being placed right back on the hook if the survivor team doesn't prevent that, since its a team game.

Just because the devs say something dosent make it right

  • Hektic3000

In this instance though, since they make the rules that we follow there's nothing players can say to dispute the fact that tunneling is a part of the game, like it or not.

I play just as much Survivor (Solo in fact) as I do Killer. Due to the Rifts I've actually been playing MORE Survivor. And yes, I'm saying that when you lose, that is on you. I expect you don't have any problem taking credit for your wins. Ask yourself why it is so hard to take credit for the losses. Again, nobody gets better at this game until they swallow their pride and take ownership of the outcomes of every match.

You can punish a killer back if you are a good looper, so many times killers have tried to tunnel me and by the time they get their first hook 3 gens get done, at that time it becomes an uphill battle for the killer to try to make up for the lost time they spent trying to get 1 survivor. Most of the times when a killer chases me they drop the chase because they notice they can't get me and go for someone else, just watch some tutorials on how to loop...

    fr0sty1223 Member Posts: 313

Not necessarily true. The devs can say tunneling and camping is not against the rules but we as the players don’t have to just accept that. If we did there wouldn’t be constant posts about it on the forums and Reddit and constant begging of the devs to do something. The devs really should be looking for solutions to this problem instead of pretending like everything is fine. A lot of players would be open to having a discussion about how to fix these issues but the devs don’t want to for some reason

Everybody gets one shot solely reliant on their own ability. Failure means any additional chances are on your teammates. Killer only has one goal and that's to remove Survivors, not give you chances to make their experience more stressful.

  • Hektic3000
    Hektic3000 Member Posts: 674

Its not a problem so what solutions are needed? If you payed close attention you would even see that they have tried to address the complaints, aside from making BT work all the time, to letting survivors come off the hook healed to 50%, they keep giving survivors options. But survivors will say no, those don't work for them, and that they should just remove choices that the killer has...

If this happens, your teammates screwed up, nothing to do with killer. Your teammates can either delay the unhook and work on a gen close by while waiting for the killer to get further away, or IF your teammates has to unhook you right this second, protect you by bodyblocking the killer from reaching you.
