People who main spirit. Why?

What made you play this killer on a regular basis , I have seen tons of people complaining about her gameplay and counterplay but i never thought what is the reason people play her.

I have played spirit for some matches and my opinion is that she is easy to play. Stridor makes it easier by countering iron will. (Sorry for any mistakes i made but English isnt my first language)

I like playing her and Freddy because her power is really easy to use and strong enough for me to use meme builds and doing good.

Like for the Archives, whenever there is a perk challenge i usually do it with Spirit (did an old one with Territory Imperative and MYC the other day and it was really fun and effective)

Same goes with Freddy who i play with a Exposed Status Build : Devour Hope backed up by Haunted Grounds backed up by Make Your Choice + BBQ for points and TP after unhook.

    ---

She is just easy to learn / to play and FUN with a good viability in red ranks. You can easily fix your mistakes, thing that you cannot do with a Clown for example.

I find it fun to play spirit. I play on switch so it’s not like it’s easy mode as playing as or against messes with the ping even more. I like the tracking aspect even if the worst 360-er can spin me

Well, first of all, because they enjoy playing here. Which is probably the biggest reason why some people play a Killer.

And second, because she is very strong with not that much effort on the players side. Like, if you want to play a really strong Killer, you can either put dozens of hours into Nurse or only a few hours into Spirit with almost the same results. You might win one or two games less, but thats about it.

some people like 4K without having to learn much about killer. anyway when dev nerf it will be the day they learn that they will struggle playing average killer

I dont really agree with you. Almost all of the people here say thats because she is fun , (well on the killer side) but even if they want ez wins thats not all of the people who play her. You main a killer whom your good at or you have fun playing it , The fact that you can win easier with stridor and a pair of headphones doesnt affect it (Hell there is people who play nurse for fun and even if they are bad they accept the defeat and move on)

I am not a Spirit main but I do like playing her a lot. I find it extremely satisfying to make the right reads with her and pinpoint the exact location where the survivors are to get the precise hit. IMO, this makes the Spirit the second hardest killer in the game, only losing to Hillbilly and as such, being so hard to play makes doing things right even more fun.

I assume people main her because they find her fun to play as. As for Stridor, it must be nice to have a counter for such a strong and commonly used perk.

The same reason why people love Legion. She basically gets stuff done for free in the hands of people that, let's face it, are not good at this game. Whereas Legion can get an injury with absolutely no effort whatsoever (unless they're exceptionally bad), Spirit can do the same with both an injury, and especially a down.

They're both 'fun' to use as well, as they move quicker than most killers. I do find Spirit fun to use sometimes, scaring some survivors and even just doing memey things. But this fun is clearly born from the fact that nothing can be done to stop her, and consequently there is minimal pressure felt when playing her. Her 'control' comes from robbing your adversaries of any satisfying or pleasant gameplay, which is inherently a problem. You can oppress a team without this absolutely silly trait, but you'd need a modicum of skill.

Spirit has a low skill floor, she's 'pick up and play'. Many new killers 'main' her first because it doesn't take too much to learn her. It's easy to recover when you mess up with her, and she's fast paced, in a game that's essentially a race against the clock being fast is much more forgiving, and fun.

Because she’s fun to play? Also, she’s always been my favorite killer in general regardless of gameplay, so that’s part of the reason I used to play her a lot. It’s been 2 months since I’ve been serious with her but I’m starting to play her a bit recently and I just really enjoy her despite being unfair.

While I hate playing her personally I can understand the fun in using her. I just feel bad whenever I do play her though

I'm not sure Legion is the best comparison, given that they only get a free injure and have to work exceptionally hard for everything else.

  • DeliciousFood
    DeliciousFood Member Posts: 464

The satisfaction from the low effort results make the comparison stronger than people think, in my opinion. Coupled with the fact that unlike what people like to think here, they aren't facing sweaty SWF's most of the time. You will get plenty of free game delay with legion and downs will come rather quickly when every solo turd panic drops pallets.

In a more intense scenario, yes Legion is absolutely garbage and will have to play M1 killer to get a down, but in most situations they'll do alright. And as I said, it comes down to the /satisfaction/ factor. Legion is braindead when it comes to getting injuries, which for more than a few killers is a desperate struggle because the /game is so survivor sided/ (this is said in jest).

This, particularly the 'she makes me feel scary' part. No other Killer makes Survivors feel threatened like she does. Even a Nurse can be dangerous, but Nurses are either godlike or easily-bullied; no in-between. Spirit makes survivors go pale, lose hope, get angry. She invokes feelings. She invokes fear.

That is what DbD is missing: fear of the Killers. We lost it when we made the game easier and easier and more of a party game for Survivors. We turned the Killers into playthings and punching bags easily defeated by running in circles and pressing space occasionally. I wish BHVR would bring back the fear, but now that goofy cosmetics like christmas elves and ######### exist it can never be done.

Not a Spirit main, but I'm guessing it's one of two reasons.

1.) They like the character. That might mean how they look, how they sound, etc.

2.) They want an easy game.

I don't main Spirit but I'm on the fast track. As others have stated, she's just super fun to play. I like how much map pressure I can have and how phasing, fake phasing can cause survivors (potatoes anyways; the smart ones usually put up a better fight) to mess up and in essence, I like the sense of control she can give you. I like how a bad start of a match can turn it around and snowball from there to land you at least a 2-3k. She can handle swfs extremely well, and obliterate solo queue. I also like how her phasing can cause unpredictableness as you don't know where she's coming from, you can just take a wild guess and hope you read the Spirit better than she can read you.

I also really love Japanese lore and I jive with the Ju-On vibe she's got going on from her backstory. She's neat. I really just like enjoying her even if I horribly lose the match to great survivors. She's just one of those chill killers for me. I think everyone should have their zen killer, the one they can just always have a good time with no matter what. :)

That's actually on BHVR. Any game with matchmaking should pair bad players with bad players and good with good for balanced games. If someone is defeated 90% of the time due to low skill that is a bad matchmaking system.

I don't think it's that obvious. The feeling of winning is stronger than the feeling of playing a fun killer sometimes. I think most people don't care how fun she is just that they get easy wins and it makes them feel good.

450 hrs on the game. Rank 3 killer and I main Spirit and my main build is BBQ (for bloodpoints), Ruin-Undying (gen regression), and Thanatophobia. If I didn't care about bloodpoints, I'd drop the BBQ and run Tinkerer or something else to modify how I'd want to play that particular match. I always found Stridor to be unreliable, though it did help me determine the direction of a mid-distance survivor better than telling me when to unphase closer to a close-range survivor. (I use the alienware 7.1 gaming headset, so that's not the issue.)

Running a mother-daughter ring lets me absolutely FLY across the map and that helps with gen pressure. Obviously, you can't run that addon every trial, but it's the ideal one for me. You get tired of the same issues with SWF squads when I used every killer and I find that Spirit shuts down the good loopers better than any other killer. I still get run by good loopers, but not like when I'm playing other killers. If I do get post-game toxic talk it's when I'm playing other killers and didn't do well. The trash talk is way less when I'm the one in charge of the trial.

Long story short; I often feel powerless against high ranked 4-stacks using every killer in the game other than Spirit, and even though she isn't a guaranteed 4k like some on here are saying, it is fun feeling like I have control over the match. I even prestiged her to 3 and gave her the Greek armor skin. Love me some Spirit!

I haven't really played her since they took away her collision while phasing, but when I did it was because I liked using her phasing to surprise survivors. I can't track via sounds, so I can't play to win with her or anything, but I love sneaking up on survivors when they're not expecting it. In the middle of a chase with one survivor I'd phase and then pop up on top of a totally different survivor. I really enjoyed doing that.

I miss it, actually, but all my matches now have 3 or 4 survivors running Spine Chill, and I don't like trying to crab walk or moon walk or whatever the hell to work around it, it just feels stupid.

i started playing her after i got stuck in green ranks with Wraith (when i had like 100-200h or so). Not because i wanted to play the best possible killer but i just liked the character and people told me Wraith is bad and she is good lol.

I learned a lot about survivor movements by playing her for a while. I'm not playing her so much anymore because playing her against bad survivors just feels a bit unrewarding and boring and survivors always get toxic (DCing, suiciding...)... and playing her against actually good teams on the other hand feels a bit tedious as constantly second guessing yourself isn't much fun (guess i'm just not very good with her but i play this game in a relatively low resolution and struggle to see moving grass and stuff - scratchmarks are also not super reliable if survivors know how to fake them).

It sometimes gets to a point where i feel it's a coin throw - for me, not the survivors! - and where i basically mindgame myself. Besides that, i never do the "stand still" mindgame and go immediately into my power when i have it.

Because she is fun to play as. And no she isn't OP at all. The average survivor player has 0 idea how to counter her. Wraith is more bullshit imo.

I was simply saying don't speak for everyone else. You said "they use her for easy mode". Key word there being they in other words you just said we all use her because she is EZ mode which is not true. You can keep your own opinion and I don't care but don't speak for anyone else aside from yourself
