I hate addons... (a bit ranty)

In my opinion, the addon system is the second worst thing this game has, right after gens in general. This is pretty subjective though, so if you like the addon system and like the variety and different playstyles it brings then that's totally cool.

Most addons imo fall in one of 3 categories:

1- They make the killer power better or make it so the killer can use their power more, in other words the killer is just worse off if they don't have specific addons and their power and abilities need to be balanced around those addons existing.

2- They add something extra to the killer's power. This means that instead of having more interesting aspects to their basekit that add more of a skill ceiling because it requires you to understand all the nuances of how the killer power works, we have simplistic powers that are more lackluster than they could be and the addons are what makes them interesting.

3- They are absolutely busted and provide such a BS advantage that one can wonder how the hell this game can even be balanced in the first place. They just break the game in a similar way moris used to.

This is so sad to me because in either scenario the basekit of a killer is conceived in a more simplistic and lackluster way, just to account for these things that may or may not be there because the only way to get them is through an RNG system(bloodweb).

Now imagine how much more interesting it would be if a lot of addons were just made part of the killer's basekit, and they only had say 1 or 2 addons that just completely changed the way they play or the way their power works.

For instance, say Blighted Rat was basekit and there was no Blighted crow or rat. Now a Blight player ALWAYS needs to take into account that they move faster per token, meaning they would plan plays around this fact a lot more, there would be a risk vs reward to using more tokens for a faster rush AT BASE. Survivors would also need to keep track of how many rushes a Blight has used because his speed becomes more and more unmanageable with each consecutive rush. His base power becomes more interesting for both roles.

Imagine if Ghostface could just use his power...instead of waiting 50 years to use it..or better yet, imagine if his power recovered in 15 seconds by default, but now if he hits a survivor he has marked he gets half of his power back immediately, if he gets revealed by a survivor he gets a 20 second cooldown on his power. And then we no longer need any BS cooldown addons. Now his basekit is more complex, it incentivizes the use of his power and incentivizes survivors to actively try to pester him so he doesn't have his power available. His basekit became more complex and interesting for both roles.

And you could literally do this for every killer with most of their addons. You could find a way to remove a certain addon or group of addons and in turn make their power just more interesting/complex at base, and more importantly, more consistent. Survivors will always know what they're up against when playing against killers, so they will be able to learn timings, keep track of recoveries and cooldowns, they'll know what a killer is capable of, even if it's something complex.

"Oh but variety! What will we do without the variety"

This game has 57 killers, soon to be 1382, all of which are different in one way or another and there's more than 10000 perks for both sides. There's enough variety, and there probably would be more variety if this game got more base kit stuff for both roles that allowed perks to be geared more towards playstyle rather than: "Oh I need 50 safeguards or the killer will tunnel me", or "I need 37 slowdown perks or gens will go in 2.79 seconds"

_____________________________________________________________________________________

TLDR: A bit ranty but I think addons are a pretty bad thing because of how much they change (and break) a killer and their power and neuter their base kit. I think the game would be better off scrapping most if not all addons and making each killer's base kit more complex, without having to balance for how much they could be buffed with addons.

Add-ons make a killer more interesting.

    For example, Campbell's Last Breath.

Add ons make playing the same killer over and over a lot less repetitive. I’ll use clown as an example since I main him

If I feel like focusing on using the tonic I can run bleach and chloroform together

if I feel like using the antidote more I can use makeup kit and spirit

if I want survivors to DC I can run pinky finger (why didn’t they change this?)

It adds more depth and build opportunities for killers

The problem with add-ons is in the community that uses them. People will say "Wraith is OP" when he's using All-seeing Blood and Silent Bell or "Pig is OP" when she's using the best head trap time reduction add-ons. I also don't like killers using exclusively those types of strong add-ons. I almost never see killers running brown or yellow add-ons. No, they've gotta be using Prayer Beads Spirit or Tombstone Piece Meyers w/ a stalking add-on. I think those killers' opinions are less valid when they say "this killer is fine" or "survivors just need to git gud vs this thing". How about dropping your god mode add-ons and running brown/no add-ons? That's how I judge a killer's true strength, and I think others should as well.

And this isn't even going into survivor add-ons.

Well if a killer is running BBQ you can afford to be running good addons almost permanently assuming you are not getting spanked every game. So there’s no real reason not to.

There’s also no reason to put points into survivors since you can get items for “free”. So for a player who’s done grinding for perks there’s not much else to do with blood points.

Those are both huge aspects of how the game is played, it's hard to imagine what the game would look like without them.
