Should Licensed Content get the Crowns?
Ah, the fifth year anniversary.
And the crowns. Ooh, maybe I would be able to wear them on my favorite Killer, Pyramid Head or my favorite Survivors Cheryl or Leon.
But what's this? I can only equip them on the characters original to Dead by Daylight?
Well then, what a way to celebrate the fifth year anniversary when I'm locked out from even getting them in the first place because of the developers' decision to just give the middle finger to those who like the licensed content. Screw us players, I suppose.
But hey, that's just my opinion on the topic. What do you think? Do you think that it's unfair that many players won't be able to celebrate the 5th anniversary in full because they can't wear the crown on their licensed character, or do you think it's fair that it's only on the original content?

No, licensed content doesn't need it (Please Explain Why)
I think they would if it was possible, but I’m assuming the license holders rejected it in most cases. Hence they didn’t want to cause confusion by giving it to some but not all.
Realisticly, I could only see Ghostface getting it anyways, and maybe the ST characters.

This wouldn't realistically work since they've have to get the ok from all their licensers, even if they could, it's not worth their effort.

Considering Valve's apparent hating of money being received from Bill (all the L4D content in the rift is free, Bill himself is the only free licensed character and you don't even have to unlock him with shards as he's just there, and his Ugly Sweater is just in everyone's inventory) and them being open to BHVR (after all, he's the first and so far only licensed rift character) I think as long as the crowns are free, which they are, Bill would also be an easy grab for the crowns.
I know that's completely unrelated to the main point, which I agree with, just wanted to throw that in there.

I actually completely forgot about Bill, thanks for bringing that up. I’d presume he’d get one too as you mentioned.

Can someone who voted yes explain their logic as to why this would work? Or are people more thinking that they'd love it but know it wouldnt be able to happen.

Yes, it's ridiculous that some people can't celebrate because of that
Well to me from the start it should have been an additionnal slot of cosmetic the same way we have charms.
Perfect example is why you can have the crown on 2 members of the Legion (1 only this year) and no the other 2 (Joey and Susie) ? They are original character yet don't get a crown.
Having it a separate part of a cosmetic would allow the DBD team to enable or disable it on certain cosmetics, Legendary and sets and on some licensed characters if they don't have the right for it.
I think if a licensed character like Nancy can wear a motocycle or a big reindeer head as charm she should be able to wear a crown, crown are just Head charm.

That's actually an interesting take on it, I definitely agree with the majority of it that the crown should he a separate slot as it would allow a lot more ways to design your character rather than having to use the default head.
Despite this, it provides a much different look than charms do, probably being why companies were fine with charms but not crowns.
I do think she'd be able to get one if the devs didnt want to cause confusion however (with some not having crowns and others having crowns).

You do realize that BHVR needs permission from the license holder to give them crowns, right?

You do realize that they had all the time in the world to do that, right?
You do realize that they allow characters to run charms as cosmetics to licensed characters, right?
You do realize that the license holders are fine with BHVR giving them Prestige skins, right?
You do realize that Demogorgon got DbD-exclusive skins, right?
But oh, a crown is tooootally a no-go.

I want Freddy to have something. A crown works just fine.

YES! As a Nancy Main, I can't have the crown :(.

Realistically, I know they won't get crowns ever. However, I'd like to see them get crowns because I feel like the licenses are a huge part of why dbd is so successful, so why shouldn't the licenses also be celebrated? However, I do understand why they don't have them. They'd have to get them from all license holders to implement them for all licensed characters and for something that's only up for grabs for 2 weeks, it's not really worth the hassle to get all those agreements. Also I'm sure they wouldn't want only a few licenses to have them. I'm shocked though that we don't at least have crowns for Bill and Ghost Face. The Ghost Face license holders have already let BHVR make event cosmetics for Ghost Face in the past and Valve seems to be fine with things as long as it's free and crowns are free.

i would love for it but the problem is licensing, getting in contact with every license holder and asking for permission to do this and it can be difficult to get into contact with said licenses.

They have a literal year to do this. Every year. And probably only need to ask once.
Also, if the problem really is licensing, then let me just ask this question, for all of you. If the issue was licensing, why do all licensed characters get P3 skins, by default? These alter the Survivor and Killer more than the crowns do (as the crowns don't change a thing), ergo wouldn't that mean that they too are exclusive to non-licensed characters?

Because it was asked already for permission at the time of the license was obtained. Since the anniversary crowns are all different each year, they need to make contact again for it. Not all companies/license owners will be available to discuss these kinds of things, heavily depends on the license that we are dealing with.

Well, let's see...
They still have a year to talk it out with them, and likely have multiple people out there trying to discuss deals with various companies. Surely, surely this would've come up in talks at some point.
Also, why would you need to ask for permission to just add some sort of thing that is not even attached to your character's body? It's ridiculous to think that charms are okay for Survivors, but crowns? Crowns draw the line?

I mean, it's a crown floating behind the head of a character. That is it, I don't see the character being ruined by that, but it's always tricky with licensed content.
