Help Managing PS4 Stuttering
Given the stuttering issue on consoles at the moment appears to be harddrive related it dawned on me that constantly recording 15mins of gameplay in the background probably isn't helping the situation so I looked in to disabling it, turns out Sony don't actually let you turn it off however you can reduce the recording time down to 30 seconds and change the resolution recorded down to 1280x1080, the theory in the article was this may make the PS4 rely on memory rather than HDD and either way the work load of background recording on the HDD would be reduced.
I've only had chance now to test this with 3 games using pyramidhead and the results appear to be very notable, the hard stutters are now more like mini stutters and while they are just as frequent they are far less disruptive. This certainly doesn't fix the problem but it certainly appears to be helping me stay in chases or line up powers.
Fyi I'm running the game on a PS4 pro on 1080p.
To change your recording settings:
Press share button, go-to broadcast settings , video clip settings and change length to 30seconds and dimensions to 1280x1080.
If I had more time to test this I would before posting this however it's 4am so I'd love to hear if this helped anyone else.
@MandyTalk if results come back positive if you could pass this along that would be great.

I will try this!

How do you change the dimensions of the video clip? Managed to reduce the length but couldn't find that one.

It’s literally on the same page :)

Welp, mine doesn't have it lol. It's a base ps4 though.

oh ok, I have a PS4 Pro. Probably just has more settings.
my advice for you: set your recording length of the clips to the shortest. that’s all you can do for now.
also if you have a SSD, put dbd on there. Some people in this forum have positive experiences!

I did that and matches feel a little bit better. Manage to play a game of Legion without missing Frenzy hits, so that's something.

That’s exciting!
I’m gonna try and play too

Good luck! Be aware that Dead Hard still freezes the game though...

Wow! Thanks!

Okay so just played a few games of deathslinger, I could just spam aim down sights constantly with no stuttering, that's the first time I've experienced that since I bought him.
The stutters are still there but they feel far more manageable and a lot less disruptive, it's like major stutters only last half as long and the mini stutters no are more like a fps dip than the game choking.
Not a magic fix but definitely helps ease the pain, I'd upload a video of the differences but ironically I can't now :v

Nope. Still the same as survivor. Random freezes during a game. In chase, multiple freezes after you get hit... the usual stuff. Still unplayable for me, but thanks for trying.
Wanted to try this at least.

Just to confirm, are you on PS4 pro and do you have it set to 1080p or 4k ?

Ps4 pro. Set recording to 30s and "dimensions to 1280x720.
I didn't touch the resolution. It is automatic. But the only options for me are 720 and 1080 so I assume it is 1080. Better resolutions are unsupported for me.

I have supersampling on tho, should I try turning it off? Boost mode is on but I assume that is fine.

I just want to point out that if BHVR encourages the turning off/removing recording of gameplay as band aid fix for poor optimization this will make it so players are left without sufficient proof when it comes to providing video evidence in reporting other players.

Well I don't get the option for supersampling on my tv but given the fact it upscales your resolution it's going to tax your fps however the visual difference with it turned off may not make it a good trade off, I'd certainly test with it off just for science though.

I will try the game in 720p with supersampling off and edit my post after.
Edit: A little better. Not much and not in acceptable state yet. For people who still want to play despite everything do this. I will do one or two more games for the amusement but that is probably it. Back to not playing after that.

^ This is a placebo most likely. Had a game on my normal settings again and it was better than the one before. I mean you can try it regardless. There is nothing to lose.

Yeah it's not a miracle fix, but it has allowed me to use killer powers a lot more reliably.

It is easy to try it out so others should too if they are still playing. If it helps them enough it makes some difference like it did for you even better.
Thanks again for experimenting and letting us know even if it didn't do enough for me to keep playing.
