Is the term "tryhard" being blown out of proportion a discussion.
"an underskilled or untalented participant attempting to compensate with sheer effort in order to succeed"
Source: dictionary.com
This is something that i want to put up for discussion. Purely because for me the term tryhard seems to make no sense.
Someone who is underskilled is obviously going to have to try harder to win the game if they want to actually get a win for once.... Putting in the effort shows that at least have the willpower. By definition a rank 20 trapper who is bad at the game trying to get there first win is a tryhard.
Why would trying their hardest be a bad thing?.
It feels like this term is used nowadays to insult anybody who wins and loses and it honestly makes no sense too me.
Anyways i dont know maybe I'm trying hard myself id love to hear other people's thoughts though.

Perhaps you should get the gaming term, not the one u find in a dictionary.
For example
- I found a tryhard Oni a few days ago who tried to mind game a short loop for an entire minute to get me to make a mistake until bloodlust 1 or 2 kicked in, to a point where I had to trade in a hit. Like, I know that's what ur supposed to do, but Jesus Christ, this guy was turning so much I thought I was fighting a mixer, not a killer...
To top it all off, he had addons for durations... This guy popped his power in EGC and timed it perfectly so it runs out at the exact same time the person on hook dies... Like can you sweat any harder bro? He told me, he had to secure a kill at all costs...
I have 4000+ hours in TF2. I main soldier, I have 2000 on Soldier alone. I played A LOT of 1v1. I know what a Tryhard looks like...

I feel it's a term that different people can have very different definitions of when they use it, to some extent like the term "toxic".
When I see the term I don't simply think of someone trying hard to win, I think of what is essentially the negative stereotype of "competitive gamer taking it way too far". Blaming their teammates for every tiny mistake while thinking they're perfect, the "worse than me = dumb noob, better than me = sad no-lifer or straight up cheater" mindset, often rampant hypocrisy where they will use everything at their disposal to win and then they turn around to cry their eyes out if their opponents do the same and defeat them. That is who I think of when I see the word tryhard. A more aggressive and unpleasant scrub.
Meanwhile someone else might think of something as simple as "someone that uses strong/meta stuff ever".

I had someone jump in a locker just to secure the last generator for their team.
I was 12-hooking. Very, very overtly. I literally let her go twice because she was unhooked in front of me.
That is a tryhard.
