Why the upcoming Trickster changes may actually be a significant nerf to Main Event
In the upcoming mid-chapter patch, the Trickster is getting some much-needed changes. These include reducing the number of Blade hits to injure to 6, increasing the speed of Laceration decay, making Main Event take 30 blade hits to charge instead of 20, and increasing the active Main Event window to 30 seconds.
However, let's look at this mathematically. Assuming you only land knives on people that you chase and down, and you only use Blades, the old Trickster would need to deal 2 1/2 health states of damage with blades to activate Main event. 16 blades for two injuries, and 4 blades on another survivor.
Now, let's look at the new Trickster. Since it only takes 6 Blades to injure, and Main Event now needs 30 Blades to charge, you will need to get 5 health states worth of damage using only Blades to charge main event.
5 health states.
That's 2 full downs and one injure, assuming you get every injure with Blades. That is less than half of the charge rate of old Main Event, and in actual gameplay, a lot of your injuries will be with M1 due to the limitations of Trickster's power. This means you'll be getting Main Event much, much, MUCH less frequently. Problem is, though, that Main Event still kinda sucks. You still move incredibly slowly, are forced to spam fire, and pretty much have to cancel it the moment they get behind cover.
Is being able to carry Main Event for 30 seconds worth this? Especially given that a good portion of those 30 seconds may be spent carrying a survivor to a hook, and slowly going towards a generator. I'm not so sure.

I think so, most of my trickster games I use the main event as a meme instead of as a weapon.

Honestly main event should be changed to Trickster throwing 3 knives at once.

I think main event is garbage no matter what, but yeah I agree it's a nerd to an allready useless part of his power, tho his addon that they talked about that increases duration of Main event on knife hits is gonna be interesting

Main Event is a meme before and after these changes. I looped a Trickster around some random Autohaven tires and avoided taking a health state with Main Event today, and the devs think the issue with the Main Event is that you can't hold it long enough. Second time they used it in that game, I just jumped in a locker until Main Event was over. It's a terrible ability. You could let me hold it until the next match, and even take it on a different killer. It would still be bad. They need to rework Main Event for Trickster to be remotely good.

Trickster is one of my favorite killers despite his current state. I do not understand why they want to make an already bad ability even more situational than before. I've yet to see a Trickster that gets several injures thanks to Main Event. Otherwise you could use use the regular knives that do not have a time limit.
It will be an even worse worst ability.

I like this a lot more. Slower, but throwing more knives at once with a wide spread, could be really neat.

Borderline useless isn't useless enough, I demand they make it useless-useless.

There is no way to save main event. It sounds cool in theory but the execution just does not work in this game.
If they really want to help Trickster, give him something else entirely for the main event. Put a spotlight on survivors/aura reading so they can't hide, or something.

I know that's a completely new mechanic for them to design and all but that sounds actually really amazing. Using it to flush people out or find them would be an interesting twist, reminds me of utilizing the zombies to find people. It doesn't feel like a huge amount of killers have any type of base kit detection now that I think about it...

- Main Event activation time has been shortened to 0.5 seconds (down from 1.5 seconds)
Are people really ignoring this? This is huge.
Before you were moving like a snail powering up your attack while the survivor could get into any cover they felt like. Now you will pretty much begin throwing instantly
Half a second of slowing down before throwing blades at high speed vs 1.5 seconds is a big deal.
That will be the difference between getting zero knifes at a vault vs getting all 6

The way I see it OP is right. This is an ability they would activate probably halfway into the trial or late game, and only get one real shot to do it. Showing everyone's auras, giving them a spotlight cue saying 'hey, Trickster has you in his sights. Run or die.' while Trickster has no movement penalty and is auto firing should be enough to turn the tide of a game.
It's called Main Event, not side show. Ya know?

The entire update is a nerf. They gave him usb stick as basekit and nerfed everything else as compensation. he is in a better state now with soda and usb then he will be after the update.

12 hits to down not 6.
During the ptb it was 8 hits to down with the ricochet addon by bouncing it on the ground first and he was still considered weak.

It's a huge buff
Trickster in main event throws 5 knives per second (3 knifes standert time 1.666 main event modifier)
Trickster now: 1.5 second startup , 1.6 seconds to injure, 1,6 to down is 4,7 seconds to down a survivor without missing and without them getting LoS
Trickster after the buff: 0.5 startup, 1.2 to injure, 1.2 to down is 2.9 seconds to down if you hit everything.
In the time trickster now gets a injure with main event you are already on the floor after the buffs.
Ofcourse not really realistic as you'll probably miss a couple of blades but putting it in percpective shows that it's pretty silly to call it a nerf

I consider it a nerf.
Wow we get 30 additional seconds but everyone has been asking to save it like oni/legion.
But we now need 30 knives to activate it?
This is a straight nerf. Allow us to save it whenever we want and I'll consider it a buff even with the 30 knife requirement
