The Event's real issue: Bad marketing
First of all, stop letting your stuff get leaked. If it weren't for the leaked images and even the 3D models, no one would've known about the Blight cosmetics in the first place. The hype spiraled out of control and people were anticipating that they could unlock these.
Imagine those cosmetics would've been revealed for the first time yesterday with the immediate information they'll be added to the store. Sure, some people would still be upset, as they always are if they don't get it for free, but the majority would've accepted it more easily. Then, at the end of the showcase, reveal that everyone gets the opportunity to earn an entire outfit for free during the event. This way people would've been much more excited.
I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job, I just think this whole mess could've turned out a lot better with more planning beforehand. First you had your stuff leaked, which happens literally every month since the store launched, then, during the stream, you started with the information that you can get only one outfit for free and the rest has to be paid for.
I, personally, don't have a problem with this situation. It simply bothers me how you decided to present something this great.

Things are getting wild and crazy. Most people are pissed about it.
I'm not pissed, I'm quite disappointed for sure.
I'd like a 2nd outfit to be grinded for.
I was thinking they'd do a fall masquerade thing too... like total amount of harvests or maybe total downs combined with total flashlight blinds? I don't know...something for the community to work for.
I mean, this event will be "good" for sure, but it could of been tremendous.
I'll settle for good I guess.

I am only pissed because they are available forever5
-
-The sense of accomplishment is completely missing because the skins can be also purchased and that EVEN after the event has ended.
The event is just a bad version of a 2x BP event if you ask me.
So much hype and work going into sth and then it feel so cheap....

lol its all good man.
I'm with you on being positive about the event. But it just kills me...
It's like getting a killer appetizer... and then the main course is just "okay"...

I've even stated that I don't have a problem with the event as a whole. I'm criticizing their marketing revolving around the whole thing. My main concern being; They have to stop the leaks from happening.1 -
I really don't think the reaction would be much diFFerent if the content wasn't leaked.
I must say though, you think they'd learn by now. What with the Devs knowing people like to dig in the game files since before the Nurse was added and many things have been leaked early since then.

I agree with you, OP. I'm tired of everything getting leaked. I'm sure not as many people would complain if the skins weren't leaked.
When the developers release a patch or a PTB or whatever, is it really that hard to take these kinds of files out of the game temporarily?0 -

What if the leakable files had killers with glowing eyes of a different color and then all of a sudden we get the event as it is? The good skins announced as new halloween themed store cosmetics and that we're allowed to earn one for free.
This might have been a better marketing strategy to help build good will instead of being silent while people were building their expectations based on past holiday events.

I don't see why people are complaining, you can get 1 full cosmetic (3 items) for free!
Look at past events, one cosmetic for a specific survivor, one cosmetic for a specific killer. 2 items, for characters you might not play, ever..
Now they give you the choice to unlock a cosmetic across a wide range of characters, get over it.

I agree that it was bad marketing. This isn't a Halloween event. The skins are available all year long, and not holliday thematic.
This is a kickoff to a lore plot. That's why you can buy the blighted skins whenever you want.

Another round of applause for the second person who writes comments without even reading what the thread is about.

OP isn't wrong. People were only deluding themselves that all the cosmetics would be free. That's insane. None the less, this really is a problem of BHVR's own making. If they released the information in a different way then the damage could have been mitigated.

The whole situation could've been handled in so many different (and better) ways.

Yeah at this point they should start a no-leak policy...

I also think if they were going to make things paid for, they should have said so from the get-go. It would be insane if they gave us 7 skins for free, but since every community event to date has been 100% free (and one event we got 6 cosmetic pieces and a MAP) I don't think it's unreasonable that people expected this one would be as well. It goes against both the pattern they've established and the mood that has been set around community events, which is "giving back to the community free things and fun minigames as a show of gratitude for loving our game", replacing it with a moneygrab instead. Money grabs are fine, in their place, which is the store. They're less fine if they're disguised as what everyone assumed would be a free community event and then revealed as paid content at the last minute.

It's a known fact now that there's people on here, Reddit, Steam etc that won't be pleased no matter what unless everything's free.

This event is a bad joke in my opinion. I mean seriously, let's give survivors an extra objective to complete, which gives Killers more time to find them, and then on top of that lets take away progress from Survivors if they die. I don't see the Killers having to do anything extra or lose anything if Survivors get away. I'm already sick to death of this dumbass event and it hasn't even been live for more than 12 hours.

Dunno I think their marketing was pretty minimal0

I rendered the 3models of these after i saw leaked images of them .. here is my reasoning if your are willing to listen OP.. back when legacy was announced out of the blue i was pissed .. i never prestiged my characters thinking that its just a waste of bloodpoints so i spent them on unlocking teachables for all available characters at that time.. Legacy skins main criteiria was that you can only start getting them after P3... I really wanted a legacy wraith i think i had over 800 hours in game at the time.. i missed out on it.
When these Blighted skins were leaked i was scared they would do the same i even prestiged huntress, only character i prestiged thinking that they might have some similar criteria .. but since BBQ event i thought they might have token system leaking these early did help me and others prepare for this event in the case these skins were prestige locked.
If you argument is ppl would have a different opinion if these skins were not leaked then i disagree.. a lot of my early comments when i rendered the models were liek "take my money " "at this rate BHVR will make me poor" look artists did a fantasitc job on these a lot of ppl atleast teh majority in my friends circle have no issues buying 1 or 2 skins while supporting devs. ppl who cry about these will never buy it anyway if they cant even support the game they like why listen to them?
I do agree that they could have made 2 skins unlockable instead of 1 but im ok with either they are doing sucha good job on these and amount of detail i thnk its worth the money im spending on these...

I'm not blaming you for doing that, I think it's absolutely understandable. What bothers me is the fact that you're even able to do that. It's BHVR's fault for letting these things get leaked. Over and over again.
And as I'm getting your point of view, I hope you do understand mine as well. If they kept those things behind locked doors and people wouldn't have known about the skins before the stream, all of this wouldn't have happened. I mean, you're a prime example. See how worried you got and everything, all of this could've been avoided. Henceforth my claim for them doing a bad job. This was in no way directed at the people who datamine or distribute the leaks, solely the fact that they're able to.0 -
44k players playing now.
I'd say it turned out just fine.0 -
Without reading your post, as its pretty long, you can just put it like that:
Event design is #########. From the "bonus objective" that makes everyone just rush them then suicide over the fact that you cant earn any more points once you got 30 vials to the point where normal play is not possible in anyway.

You should probably read this one, as you're pointing to gameplay and the event itself, but not to the problem of this topic.
Though, I agree with you.0
