Trapper is one of my favorite killers and though he is weaker than most of the roster I still think he is very strong when in the right hands. However before I start I must say this rapper is the killer that kind of slightly relies on the survivors you go against. If you get a very attentive team you will find it very hard to get value out of your traps which can result in a loss. You'll also have games where you get lots of value out of your traps. And the games and rather quickly. That is just the nature of trapper and you shouldn't feel bad when you lose to a team that disarmed all your traps.

First tip I have to give is learning trap placement, as with most trap killers they are territorial and don't like to chase too much. With trapper you want to get side of the map locked down with traps and then push survivors into it. For some people that means locking down a 3/4 gen which with trapper can be pretty easy. Pretty soon I will be making a trapper guide with a list of trap spots for various loops on various maps. But for now best I can say is watch other trapper players and watch their trap placement. It will help you better set traps and get traps down quicker.

Second tip I have to give is be aware of your surroundings. Easiest way to prevent your traps from being disarmed is to have nobody see you place them. Perks to help with this, like whispers for instance, can help minimize the amount of time you spend resetting traps and lead to you getting more value. However with enough game knowledge and game sense this isn't really necessary. You should start the game setting about two to three traps if possible. If you find a survivor while you're setting traps do not set a trap in front of them instead chase them away from the area and then when they break line of sight set a trap nearby. This way you push survivors out of your territory and can get more traps set. Once you have a good section of the map trapped up it's time to chase.

Third tip is perkchoice. Now obviously perks are up to whoever is running them and the play style that they have. But trapper requires a very specific play style. Perks like barbecue and chili aren't very useful on him because he doesn't need to know where the team is. In fact so knowing where the team is can help you set traps in a place where they wouldn't see it's better to not waste a perk slot. You also need to be careful with perks like corrupt intervention. So in theory corrupt intervention sounds like a great idea to prevent early game gens from popping, it pushes survivors towards you quicker and can potentially hinder your trap setting. You can still run corrupt but you need to keep in mind that they may enter your territory sooner than you expect. One really underrated perk on trapper is infectious fright. Yeah yeah I know what you're thinking "infectious on trapper what are you thinking?" But hear me out. Infectious is an extremely underrated perk on trapper, sure he doesn't have the ability to snowball as fast as other killers but knowing when there's people nearby and when there isn't can allow you to reset traps faster and get traps down after a down. It can also translate into snowball if somebody is nearby a trap when infectious goes off. I've had countless games were infectious went off and I've gotten two downs instead of one because there was a trap nearby. Either way you get value out of infectious whether you get somebody on it or not. Another perk that I cannot recommend enough is pop goes the weasel. Because trapper is such territorial killer most of his gender regression will be done during the late game. Because of this perks like ruin that tend to be more for early game don't really work on him as it's unlikely that the perks will last to the endgame. Pop allows you to get guaranteed regression for every down and when people are in your territory Downs can come pretty easy. And last but not least the first I recommend all the time but is completely optional is agitation. Some people give me crap for learning agitation on trapper all the time but I can't stop running it. The amount of free hits and free traps I get just by having agitation is astounding. Not to mention you get people on hooks quicker which allows you to pressure gens and push people into traps more efficiently. This one is completely personal preference but I highly recommend running agitation, if it tickles your fancy you can run it with iron grasp and do a basement trapper build but that isn't my playstyle so I don't do that.

Hope some of these tips help you out I'll have a more in-depth guide soon

Infectious is seriously useful on trapper. Glad you agree.
