For the survivor side, how do hits through pallets feel now?

Just wondering how it feels for those who play survivor, and by that I mean, is it more consistent? Do you still get hit through pallets?

I haven't bothered touching survivor yet but I'm wondering how it feels atm. When playing killer it seems a lot more consistent and fair.

Yesterday there was a moment where I was 100% sure I would get hit because of my experience, but it didn’t hit - and it shouldn’t have hit.

I think it’s too early to ask though since the update has just released.

I've been playing a lot of survivor recently due to a mix of the short queues and me loving some of the new models, and I have to say it feels really well to me. There isnt one time where I've been hit and its looked absurd, and I've had ones that have been close but havent hit while it probably would have hit pre 5.1.0.

I'm not good enough on Survivor to land pallet stuns either way, but I've noticed on Killer it's actually quite unfair - possibly because my ping isn't the best?

All I know is that I keep hitting Survivors with my Chainsaw, watching them get downed and bloody, hearing them scream, only for them to miraculously end up standing uninjured the next moment after I get stunned by a pallet.

Definitely feels awkward and a little unfair in that regard. Can even be confusing cause you think you got the person thanks to the scream etc and next thing you know they are long gone.

As bad as before, because BHVR hates people who don't live near their servers.

From a survivor perpective it's definitly better, i still get hit from 3m of a window tho but i think they onyly change pallet so that's maybe normal ^^

As for killer, it's also better but there is s weird stuff like survivors tping back and forth as the system is trying to sync their position...

It is not about hate. It is just making the game more fair. Due to latency the killer and survivor see the game slightly differently. Pallet stuns are now decided based on what the server sees. And yes, it means that the player with lower ping will have a slight advantage, because sees the state more closely to what the server sees. (Previously pallet stuns were probably based on what the killer sees? Which is very unfair if the killer has a high ping.)

I don't know if it was intentional with the new code, but i was injured and got a hit and didn't go down.

For example i ran into the locker to avoid one hit, the killer hit me but the server avoided this hit and i could leave the locker yet still injured. besides that, pallets seems to work a lot better now.

Unless one of our internet is not stable.

Honestly pretty good I've basically only been hit at pallets because I obviously threw it too late

well i have a ping between 30 and 45 ms, so i really don't think it was on my side Oo

i haven't had that happen once when my ping was stable i get around 60-70,only one game when my ping spiked 4-5 times rly dunno

I mean, what do you want them to do? ######### people over because they have a better connection? You cannot make things look fair from both perspectives without ######### someone over.

It is less fair to me, because if you can't afford good server coverage you shouldn't punish people for not being covered. As a survivor I am getting hit from meters away just as before, that's why I usually play killer. But now if I play killer I get screwed by BHVR too. What exactly is fair here?

Oh my God as survivor it feels absolutely beautiful. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy being able to drop a pallet on a killer and they actually get stunned instead of hitting me, teleporting through the pallet, and then retuning to the original side getting stunned because for some reason EU servers are filled with players with over 500 ping at night.

(had a game as wraith, didn't really try any pallet hits so can't tell if they were robbed but it was RPD so I stopped playing killer for the night)

I don't feel a difference. If anything, it feels as if the killer lunge is slightly different, I keep miscalculating it and getting hit.

Living closer to certain servers, some living further away but having a faster connection through other means. You are not being connected to the same server everytime you play. You're being connected to the closest server available for all players.

I got one successful pallet strike off during a chase yesterday and I really noticed a difference. I'm so used to getting the prompt and hitting the button, but getting no results. To the point where I stopped looping around pallets at all sometimes. But it didn't happen like that this time, so hopefully that means it'll be worth trying from now on.

Yeah, and the closest server to me is half of the world away. There is no way for me to get a good connection, it is either bad or alright-ish. Do you think this is a fair reason for BHVR to treat me as a second class player? As if my money are worse than european or american.

If you have bad latency/ping then I am sorry, but your experience is not going to be that good here and probably in other multiplayer online games. There is no way around it.

So far others were suffering because of your bad latency/ping. Now it is you who suffers because of it. I think it is more fair.

It is good in any multiplayer online game where developers actually care about all players, not just the ones in their favorite countries. There is a ######### way around it. Devs ######### on players in countries distant from them and everyone is celebrating now. This is just disgusting.

I am kinda waiting to see how killers from these countries will react now, when chasing survivors will be not as beneficial as before. Guess which tactics will be prevalent.

From the survivor perspective, it's a lot fairer now. If I'm hit by a pallet now, it feels justified and solid, rather than before where the hit did not feel like it should have been.

I think the balancing will still need tweaking, so the killers who experience the scream no longer hear it, so it doesn't feel like they've done a hit and not been rewarded for it. I fully get how frustrating that is.

Overall though, it's a solid patch from my perspective.

But then it is a separate issue. You should ask BHVR to add more servers around the globe.

  • Bumbus
    Bumbus Member Posts: 600

Nah, dude. That's exactly the same issue - you either punish players for bad connection or save money on providing good server coverage. Otherwise it is a dick move.

We are asking since dedicated servers came to exist, but that probably won't happen since BHVR uses Amazon servers and even if BHVR wanted that, they can't force Amazon to get new servers. And I really doubt they will move to another network unless something forces them.

Which means you'd be living in South Africa, but you're assuming the list of servers deployed initially. BHVR has been opening more servers around the globe to get more spread. Especially since crossplay allowed people with different platforms to connect to Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo servers.

And yeah, if there arent enough people there to cover the costs of maintaining those servers. That money would be worse than an area where there is a high density population.

Besides, there are multiple reasons for a bad connection other than distance:

    1. Local cables to the nearest mast are awful quality. This can be the biggest influencer to your connection. Having bad cabling can turn a 70ms connection into a 340ms connection.
    2. Providors being skimpy, not much of a common practice, but if there is effectively a monopoly, providors could artificially make your connection worse so you'd buy their higher package.
    3. Your nearest mast having interference, often leading to freeze frames.

So yeah, if you're living in South Africa, your nearest server would be Sao Paolo. But with that distance, you should still have around 90ms.

And this is talking about servers they deployed in 2019, between then and now, they have expanded(i've seen a few messages about certain regions gaining one, they just never really created a list I can easily find and i'm too lazy to do that work for them).

Yesterday it happened to me with Huntress, I threw the pallet when I was injured, he hit me with the ax and he was stunned and I'm fine out of nowhere. Like he's giving me one more push to escape but it's actually annoying that the time I used Spirit Fury and couldn't move straight ahead in an earlier patch.
