Survivor Stuck in Purple/Green Ranks Constantly Playing Since 2018
I don't even understand what I'm doing wrong I play all the time yet I just hover in rank 9 or rank 8. I know people who only played for a few months or a year yet they magically can maintain a Red rank as survivor. I'm a devotion 7 almost a 8 so it's not like I'm not playing enough. It's honestly discouraging seeing your peers easily get to red ranks while you struggle to get past rank 8. Am I disabled or something everyone says ItS EaSy gEtTiNg To ReD RaNkS aS SuRvIvOr yet for some reason I can't get past purple rank. Kinda is making me not want to play

I was climbing ranks until I stopped playing with my SWF. Don't play for ranks, play to have fun because you could be the best player in the world but your teammates will still let you down.

I try to but you wouldn't be having fun if everyone else can easily reach red ranks yet you for some reason with 3 years of playtime can't. It runs the game for me

I’m a solo survivor when I play survivor. Usually around 4-6 when I really just play survivor for a bit. I’m not that good I feel like. Looping has always been an issue for me. What perks do you run? Do you try to play off your strong suites or do you try to improve your weak areas?

I run kindred, decisive strike, dead hard or sprint burst, and borrowed time because I am that desperate. I am tired of losing in the game and in real life. If you are struggling with looping at there are tons of videos on how to improve on that aspect. I think I'm just "special" because its seems like anyone who has played for a year or more can reach red ranks. Something is clearly wrong with me

I have a feeling the people who reach red rank in a month are the same survivors that people complain about when they talk about boosted "baby" survivors. Also I hover around rank 4-5 but I've never made it to rank 1, so I feel your pain lol. Do you play for emblems/points?

Maybe you should try and analyse your gameplay and/or watch some looping tutorials? Pipping up is way hard for survivors than killer, so you have to make sure you're doing a bit of everything in order to make sure you get pips: Gens, unhooking, healing, being in chase, etc. If you're playing in a SWF and pubstomping killers you are most likely not going to get pips because the trial needs to actually have things happen to give out points.

The higher in rank you go the more you need to do to earn a pip. Not sure what your play style is, but you need to do a little of it all. You can't just sit on gens the whole game and escape and expect to pip. You also can't just loop the killer the whole game and escape and pip. You need to take some chases, save and heal a couple team mates, do a couple gens. You can do some totems to supplement some emblem score in your light bringer emblem. You basically need to be a jack of all trades.

I think it has to be said that not everyone can get to red ranks regardless of how easy people say it is to achieve. Maybe you just reached your skill cap. Everything you need to know about how to rank up is in countless videos online, and if you're still having trouble after 3 years maybe that's where your skill level really is. There's nothing wrong with being average.

I think at this point you may be putting a little too much pressure on yourself. It’s understandable to feel how you feel and I know it can drag you down personally. I think maybe set personal challenges for yourself and try to mix it up with a more fun build for yourself rather than a serious build. I run a lot of different things but I rarely run things like dead hard or decisive.
everyone has different strengths especially when it comes to DBD. You may not be the best survivor. That’s ok. I’m not either. I’m not the best killer either. The only killer I can a consistently get 3 or 4Ke with is trapper. I just have a feel for him.
when you play competitive games like this, you will always see these people who play a lot and/or just make it look easy. It’s just not that easy for all of us. When I was physically able to electrical work, I was very good at my skill. I can’t unclog a toilet for ######### but I could recite the local code and NEC like it was second nature. Life is too short to be that hard on yourself. Relax. Breathe. Try to find the rhythm in the game and try to laugh when you make goofball mistakes. I hope you take what I said into consideration.
kindred is your friend.

Lemme tell you about a friend of mine. They have played since launch and have never been red rank as a survivor - they hold steady at 6-8. Are they bad? Absolutely not. Red rank doesn't mean you are good. This person isn't red rank because they truly believe that survivors should be a team (and they generally play solo or with one other person). They sacrifice themselves a lot in end game so others have a better chance of escaping. They will sacrifice themselves if someone is close to death on hook. They are very altruistic. If they would stop doing these things they would easily be red rank - and I commend them for that. By looking at your perks - you also look like an altruistic survivor which is great for your teammates but can hold you back rank wise. So you have to ask yourself - do you want to alter your playstyle just to get to red ranks - or does saving your teammates and giving them more of a chance make you feel better?
Rank truly is meaningless when you think about it; and will become even more irrelevant whenever SBMM goes live. Instead of focusing on the color of your rank - focus on having fun - because to me that is what is important when playing a game - having fun each match.

Take off dead hard, decisive strike, borrowed time, and sprint burst and learn how to play without those perks.
The best way of improving is recording your games and disecting where you ######### up. Also posting for us to see to help point out the things you are ######### up on.

Watch videos on the game of some more advanced tactics, there is only so much you can learn on your own by experience.

Let me simplify ranking up for ya. Red ranks is really simple with 3 easy steps.
- Use Borrowed Time. You need to safely unhook at least one person per match. Two is better.
- Get on a generator. If you are idle, you're not ready for red ranks. The only time you should be idle is if you're trying not to be spotted by the killer.
- Don't go down within a few seconds of starting a chase. I don't care if the killer can one shot you, or is spirit. Learn how to loop tiles. My worse chases average thirty seconds minimum assuming I start them at full health.
2 -
So without watching you play I can’t offer any detailed advice, so here are some general points.
- Scout the area you are in. You can be the best looper around, but if you’re in a dead zone that doesn’t matter.
- Identify killer tendencies. Do they like doubling back, faking double backs, etc. Learning mind games at what tiles will help looping.
- Decide if you want to just pip or get as many people to escape as you can. Sometimes if you want pips you need to play selfish, maybe even sandbag someone.
- Learn tile layouts and how to loop each one. Expanding point 2, you need to know what a killer wants to do to loop longer.
- Do not waste your speed boost from taking damage. Unless the have a 1 shot power sometimes taking a hot a getting to a safe area is better than trying something fancy. Running in a straight line and predropping pallets is very effective, even if you’re average at looping. Don’t try and run circles when you get hit, have a plan where that speed can get you.
- Last point, don’t sweat ranking up. The more you stress about it the worse you’ll play. Play loose, and play for fun. Try silly builds, make goofy plays and you’ll be surprised how that can help your attitude, and by extension your gameplay.

Do you try and see in which emblem you lack? If it is the same one most of the time, it can be a hint in what you are lacking.
When i cared about rank i remember altering my playstyle to suit the emblem system.
While i do not recommend playing only to rank up since for me it removed some of the fun aspect of the game, here is a few tip for each emblem:
Objectif: If you do 1.5 gen, 1 or 2 totem and maybe open an exit gate you will have an easy silver/gold emblem
Survival: It's the nastiest one since getting downed once remove all possibility to get an iridescent, but it's basicaly the time you stay alive in the match so there is not tip other than than try and stay alive even if you stealth a little, which depend on your team and the killer tunneling or not.
Altriusm: Never go for unsafe unhook since it remove a lot of emblem point (-30).
But here you need 100p for iri, you start with 35 but default gain 20 for each safe unhook and 10 for each heal, so with maybe 2 safe unhook and a few heal you will get it, and if not gold emblem is 75 point which is 1 safe unhook and 2 heal.
Boldness: You get point by hiding close to the killer and by being in a chase, losing a chase only rexard half the point you eanred during said chase. For boldness, there isn't really i tip since it consist of looping, which will change each game with the killer.
Once again, do not play for emblem unless you know it's how you have fun, playing like this will potentially power level you to a point where you can only play like for emblem since you will only be with and against better player than you, in my case when i stopped playing for rank, i got destroyed for quite a few game because i was nowhere near good enough for my rank. But if you ever are frustrated by your rank it may help you.
Also once you reach red rank all the requirements will rise since you will need better emblem to pip.
If you want more information about what give you point, here the wiki page for emblem: https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Emblems

There are good tips in the comments above. The important thing is do get unhooks, chases and gens. Doing all three is more important than escaping.
I see you want to be red rank and are willing to do something. If you show me gameplay, i can tell you exactly what you need to change and im confident that it is enough for you to reach red rank. Playing survivor is about knowledge and not complex mechanical skill.

DBD is a video game. You probably aren't that good at it and that's perfectly fine. I know there are people saying "tHis gAmE is SO EZ, iF yoU Cant GeT to ReD rAnKs You aRE bRainDead!", but those are really sad people who take this game way too seriously.
I'm in low red/ high purple ranks most of the time, but can't get to rank one. The reason is, that I depip quite often for many reasons. A lot of times it's because I'm always in a wrong place and can't get enough altruism points. Someone else always seems to be there first and in the worst case I try to unhook, have someone unhooking right in front of me and waste time doing nothing.
As others have said, you need to do different stuff in order to pip. Not everyone can pip because if the killer can't get hooks, there aren't enough unhooks for every survivor. You have to be selfish sometimes if emblems is what you want.

I don't get to play that much, an hour or so most nights of the week. I get to rank 11 or 12 then reset to 14 or 15. Same as killer but rank recovery is much quicker when playing killer. Never been higher than 8 as killer and 10 as survivor 😅

Dont worry about ranking up, you get nothing for it at all, if been rank 1 since game release and all I get is less killers seen and less chance to run fun builds or weaker killers without being tormented...
Just play for fun

Divebomb hooks as hard as you can. Pipping system rewards survivor for playing silly. If you're efficient on gens or stealthy sorry we don't do that here 0 pip

I want to thank everyone for the advice and support. I can pretty much hit red ranks every season unless I don't play consistently. I started to get on a roll in 2022 and haven't stopped been playing since 2018 :) gg
