Fun Fun Fun Fun

"It's not fun to go against X killer" "X killer perk is unfun and non engaging"

These are the templates for most topics on these forums. You realise that fun is subjective right? Even if you don't find a killer fun to verse someone else might. And some killers might be fun to play as, but, to some people unfun to verse. So you can't ask for something in the game to be changed based on a subjective statement. Had to make this discussion after reading the latest "nerf deathslinger" post even though he literally has nothing else going for him except chase potential. Same with trickster because people have also been up in arms about nerfing him since his changes due to him being "unfun"

Agreed I read a post asking who's your favorite killer to go against and besides a few common ones it varies quite a bit. I would like if they nerfed the characters I don't find fun but I don't want/expect them too because even if they aren't fun to me they can still be balanced. Like some people hate Deathslinger I like the challenge of trying to juke his shots.

Like they nerfed Freddy but I still hate facing him because they didn't change what I didn't like about his kit.

You complain about people complaining. In a forum.

People are entitled to complain here, deal with it (even your complain about complaining is valid somehow even tho its pointless in my opinion)

Fun is subjective, which is why the forums exist. So people can express their own opinions if they want to.

Funny how killer sided even this discussion is when plenty of comments like this exist:

PallET sTUn valIdatiON iS sO OP BeCaUSE i Get robbed ....

It is not about fun, it is about sending a message.

That message being 'Nerf any Killer that we are too lazy to learn to play against.' 😁

Yup, fun is important but not a sole balancing factor.

The best part for me is that the general idea that slinger is unfair/unfun in chase has shifted at least here on the forums. There are couple loud people who won't stop with the hate but now very often, far more people disagree with them and support the idea that he's just fine as he is.

That just shows how easily can opinions change, back when he released, majority people here agreed he's unfair and needs changes but now it's the opposite and they don't mind him anymore even when no changes were ever made to him.

It makes me happy that the hate of him has shifted to general neutrality or even some people liking to face him. I sleep better, knowing there's less incentive from the community for devs to ruin him with unneeded changes.

Maybe i am missing something and you are sarcastic, but if you are not, how about we use that "too lazy to learn" for everything?

SWF not op, learn to play against. Keys not op, learn to play against. Any perk ever not op, just learn to play against. You do realise how dumb this is, do you?

Said that, it is not about how op something is, but rather how enjoyable. Legion for example was pretty bad, but he was not enjoyable the slightest. Not everything people want to get changed is neccessary overpowered.

It is very possible for any killer to be fun. I don't believe any killer is "boring" to face, but there are players who are boring to face, such as predictable perks, playstyle, uninspired plays, etc..

I would say the design of a select few killers (okay, 1 killer: Legion) is dull. There's nothing scary about some guy in a hoody, showing off their wirey physique. However, that's a long way from saying that the killer itself is boring.

Killers and survivors have the opportunity to be both exciting and boring, purely based on how they are played; not what they are. Unfortunately, the word "boring" is fairly often associated with being lazy. I'm not saying everyone who says a killer is boring states that because they're lazy, but I wouldn't be surprised if some claims of boring comes from a laziness to adapt.

Anyone else think of the Tigger song from Winnie the Pooh while reading the title?

    There's a difference:

Killers don't claim keys are 'unfun'; they point out that the logic behind nerfing moris applies to keys (which were never nerfed as promised)

SWF clearly breaks every concept about the game, including many Killer perks or powers. If the game was MADE for SWF; fine. But as it sits, the devs ignore how SWF literally ignores 60% of the game.

I'm against using 'unfun' as a metric for balance on EITHER side. But that does not mean things are not 'OP'. The problem here is that Survivors will claim ANYTHING is 'Unfun'. I've seen 'Trapper unfun, nerf' and 'Legion unfun, nerf'. Survivors claim EVERY Killer is 'unfun, plz nerf' within 24 hours of a new Killer hitting PTB. I have never, NEVER not seen a '<New Killer> unfun/OP' post within 24 hours of drop.

Survivors seem to be so entitled that they think their fun trumps literally everything else about the game, including Killer fun. They think 'I'm not having fun' is a proper metric for balancing every aspect of the game. And it's not.

    So try again.

    @xEa

I think it's safe to say, we all see how dumb that sounds.

Lets go over this step by step just really quick before we move on.

    • We acutally have to use fun in a video game as the metric, because thats it what it is all about. Especially in DbD were competetion is low to non existing. Fun and ballance have to stay in direct interaction with each other of course. Thats how you create a good game. Just ignoring fun for ballance is (and the way around) not a good idea. So forget that please.
    • Deathslinger for example is unfun, and most would be fine with buffing him, just for the sake that he becomes a fun killer.
    • The arugment OP = Unfun is bullshit. For example most agree Blight is fun to play against, and he is arguable one of the strongest killer in the game. So are Hillbilly or Huntress. The majority of people love those killer despite their strenght.
    • Very true you can say it about anything, and there are people who dont like this and that killer or hate certain maps or even certain survivors. But again, we have to go with the majority. If 1 of 100 thinks, Twins are unfun, then it is irrelevant. If 50/100 think they are unfun... we have a problem. Again, its not about ballancing alone (thats a different topic and i guess we have to talk about SWF, Keys, Addons, some maps and also some killer)

I think i summed it, not much to add to that topic.
