Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Your thoughts on using graphics software to increase brightness / gamma? pix included

When I don't play DBD, I keep my Gamma level around 1.00 - 1.05 using Nvidia control panel.

But whenever I play DBD, I push my Gamma up to around 1.40.

It definitely does make the game easier to see which is the reason why I use it. I also run it at low graphics quality since that increases the brightness in game, and also gives me a steady 120 fps on my budget PC.

I couldn't use printsrcreen to show the difference between both, so I just took a picture with my phone.

This is with normal gamma at 1.00 and running at low graphics settings:

And this is with gamma at 1.40 low graphics settings:

The camera picture makes it look worse than it actually is; it doesn't look no where near that washed out.

I'll continue playing like this, but I was just wondering how the DBD community feels about it.

As long as you only use your graphic card software its fair i guess because everyone can do that. You can also tweak your gamma directly from your monitor. Probably almost everyone do this.

The problem is when we are talking about external programs.

I don't think anyone cares much about brightness, since it's something that you can control even with hardware and it's not that gamechanging as stretch screen or something even worse. Most people control brightness with the monitor or the graphics card, i see no problem, the only thing it sucks is that you can see everything better in low quality than in ultra.

It's completely fine. I brighten mine as well.

I use various nvidia filters which started as an anti-blendette measure although I don't really have the excuse since they nerfed Claudette. It does genuinely look really nice compared to base dbd, but it does give me an advantage especially over console players, no point in pretending it doesn't.

Honestly don't care considering you can't even do that on console unless you count changing your televisions brightness

For me, it is the same as stretched resolution. You make the game look in a way it is not supposed to look.

However, since I dont know that someone is using it, except when they stream their game (the same as stretched resolution), I dont care at all.

If you're playing pc with crossplay off the other pc players can do the same. If you're playing with cross play on though you're giving yourself an advantage over console players that don't have those options. Just playing against a Trapper you'll be able to see his traps way better than you would if you were playing on regular settings like console has to.

I'd say stretched resolution is worse and gives you more of an advantage. Especially if you're playing as survivor. I did change the brightness of my game, but it can still be hard to see survivors sometimes.
