SBMM
I absolutely despise it
The thing is it's not just a DBD thing that makes it so terrible, the way it's executed in most games is just awful, and I think it's especially garbage in games where there's not even an option to rematch.
My problem with it is just how it barely gives you a chance to improve and will immediately match you with people who may not be at your actual skill level if you didn't play perfectly for one or two matches.
It only really works in games with rematch options because you can actually play against people better than you for a chance to improve. If you're constantly going back and forth between people better than you and people who you can easily stomp on, you're just not gonna get better.
Elaborating on my last point, in most games it's just not handled intricately enough because you'll be bouncing around between 10,000 hour players and people who probably bought the game yesterday, based only on the fact you won or lost your previous match. There's way too many factors that affect matches for systems like this to give you such drastic changes.
For example, SBMM doesn't account for matches where someone might DC, someone might be throwing, matches with heavy lag, etc.
Something that would be much better for a game like this is rank based matchmaking.......which we have but as of right now it literally just doesn't work.
In no exaggeration, as a red rank survivor, I've literally been getting rank 20 teammates and killers. It's actually absurd how long it's been since I've gotten a full red rank lobby.
A rank based matchmaking system is much better than SBMM because in theory, it should actually give you a chance to improve alongside people of similar rank, who will likely be closer to your skill level because they would have to have some kind of experience to reach that rank in the first place.
It works so much better this way, especially in a game like this, because having to grind up to a specific rank, playing with people of varying skill levels until you finally reach a rank you might fit is a much better way of determining your actual skill level than just getting lucky a few matches in a row.
Experience trumps all in a game like this, and SBMM just doesn't support that.
