Kayako vs Samara

So in the debate of who should be in Dead By Daylight I am for Kayako and I will state my reasoning why I'm team Kayako however I would like this to be a good discussion on both ends of which Japanese curse woman should be picked.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Kayako)
Pros:
- Her design is overall more scary than Samara's in my opinion.
- She's canonly more powerful than Samara (Sadako vs Kayako confirms this)
- Her backstory and lore fit perfect inside the realm of DBD
- She's lore wise more viable and fitting for DBDs universe.
- More potential for cosmetics
Cons:
- Similar to Spirit in design
- Power would be hard to come up with
- Who the survivor would be would be difficult to decide
- Would you go with the American version or the Japanese version?
(A little more in detail)
Even in her human days Kayako was (depending on which arc you follow for consistency I'm following Japanese arc as it was the original) never truly satisfied with life. She was in a marriage that she didn't have her full heart in. Of course she loved her husband but he wasn't her TRUE love. Her true love was a man from her high school days and now hes resurfaced in her life as her sons teacher. Kayako writes about loving the man in her diary but one day her husband unfortunately finds said diary. In a blind fit of rage her husband breaks Kayako's neck leaving her rasping for oxygen in her final moments but it doesn't end there. Her husband kills her son and family pet forever destroying any happiness Kayako could ever have in death. Enraged by this, Kayako curses the home in which she was killed and anyone who enters her house is forever riddled with this curse until they die by her hands. This is where the entity steps in.
The potential for lore in the entities realm is so perfect as we know once you're inflicted by her curse you CANNOT escape it. In the similar vain once you're in the entities realm you CANT escape even in death (see where this is going?). Say you're inflicted with Kayako's curse and you get taken to the entities realm afterwards, its a possibility that Kayako would follow said person to the entities realm and attempt to kill them however, even in death you just return right back to the campfire. This gives Kayako the perfect reason for being pulled in the entities realm and the perfect reason you'd see her. Then the map can be her home which would give a lore reason to why she curses all survivors because you're FORCED to enter her home by the entity during a trial. So we know Kayako can go anywhere the people who shes cursed are so this also gives her a lore friendly reason why she goes to other realms, she's simply seeing out her curse wherever they may be.

I think lore is the least important factor for deciding a DBD licensed killer. I'm torn between seeing BHVR make killers inspired by classic horror villains, like Trapper, Billy, Spirit, etc. But I also like seeing the killers themselves in the game, like Myers, Leatherface, etc. The problem is if you have both, sometimes it's a little redundant.
Before Spirit was in, I liked the idea of Kayako. But now that the role is somewhat taken, I find it hard to come up with a compellingly unique power idea. And I'd rather the killer not be in at all as opposed to a slight variation of spirit, or having some poorly designed unnecessarily complex power.

It’s Sadako. Samara is the bastardised version from the American remake.
The remake is fine, but the original Japanese film is excellent.
I will get off my high horse now.

True but Spirit sadly lacks a lot of horror elements which make Kayako scary. Spirit's hair for starters makes her easily visible, removes so much of an uneasy factor by that alone, her overall outfit doesn't help the factor of her being not as uneasy to look at, her weapon being a katana also kills a bit of the horror factor, overall Spirit seemed scarier in her trailer but even then her floating hair and weird choice in a katana removes a lot of horror or uneasy feelings we could've got from her. Kayako's power could have something to do with the fact you can't escape her and it could utilize her son/cat since they usually work as a trio.

True but we'd probably get Samara as Sadako herself isn't as broken into the American market as Kayako.

I agree. I think the best killer designs are when their faces are covered by a mask. I like the crazy hair and extreme expressions, but I wish her hair was covering her face by default. And maybe when she's lunging out of her power, her hair pulls up and reveals her wicked face.
Not to mention, when spirit was in the PTB, the audio was glitched, so you didn't hear that dumb "nyah" "nyeh" whining noise she does. And that was actually unintentionally very unsettling. Hearing those ghostly wails and moans. I wish they kept it that way.

Kayako because she's more scarier than the other one. I've watched both movies and The Ring is just plain dry.

I think the developers love Spirit and might give Kayako a chance.
Kayako can crawl and to hit a survivor she can stand up for a lunge.
Her power can be either teleport, illusions of herself or her son.
I just thought of the plastic bags she comes out of as a teleport from which she can come out.
Maybe she's the one who's deciding where to put her teleport or they'll work like Pig Jigsaw Boxes.
She's my favorite character from the horror movies and her game design can be made so cool and scary.
After seeing pinhead animations and mori, i have hope for something creepiest like Kayako.

Please leave.

I still think if they were to come, they’d be a legendary cosmetic for spirit. They all have similar powers, and they’re even based on the came mythological creature; an Onryo

I thought we already had Spirit...

Omg dont give the devs ideas :(

You won <3

Well first this is ringu so it's the original japanese version with sadako so...it's right there, secondly sadako is the main version most demographics are familiar with so it's most likely sadako out of all of them regardless which you think is a better pick or "fits better" lore wise

"from the original story" meaning not The Ring that we all know and love
There's a 99.9% chance the characters are going to be from the actual book or the original movie adaptation. That means it will be Sadako, it can't be Samara.

This post was made much before the official announcement of Ringu’s chapter lol

Rin is a poor ripoff of Kayako anyway

Kayako is the Grudge? (American version)
Honestly she scared the ######### out of me when I was a kid. I remember watching a movie (2nd one) where someone went into a room with a bunch of boarded up windows. In each gap between the boards you can see eyes looking back at her.
At the time I was in my sunroom which had 3 massive windows, with no blinds, around me. I sat there for 3 hours after the film ended staring at the tv because I didn't want to look at the windows lol even the game scared the ######### out of my friend while we played together.
I would really really like her but it won't be. Hopefully this is a good chapter. Please be a stealth killer with some good mobility.

She isn't a typical onryo because the Spirit has the same features as Kayako tho.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR SADAKO!! fucken finally we get an asian horror
1 -
They're different because Sadako is a demigod and she has more powers unlike Kayako.
Her power is a ripoff of Kayako's power. The Spirit runs and doesn't walk like Sadako, but the Nurse has the same pose and both of their faces aren't able to be seen..
It's not the same situation because Sadako is very different compared to Kayako's ripoff.

I liked both versions of the grudge movies. I think even the American version did well. The sequels got worst but it overall ofc the original (Kayako) is better

Thats funny that none of those 2 names are the correct ones.
Just watch the original movie ffs. It's Sadako.

I think hes talking about the grudge movies 💀

They already said in the official trailer it’s dlc based on the “original story Ringu”.

Original Dark Water is so much better than リング.
0 -
Oh my god I have I didn’t think they’d use Sadako because Sadako never broke in US audiences 💀

i know…I stated this…

Yeah, I’m very surprised by this.
Have you seen the Ring/Grudge crossover film? It’s pretty fun.
0 -
Totally agree!
I rly hope we are getting a Grudge chapter even beside Ringu and Spirit.

UMMMMMMMM, are you okay? Not even remotely dry. It’s Wetter than a lake.

Sadako just has much more potential for a power. "7 days" as a curse, the well as a prop on the map, teleporting through televisions etc. Whereas Kayako is pretty much entirely just "she comes after you when you're cursed" which is pretty much just her being the killer, and hair. There's not a heap you can do with hair.
The only reason I'd want Kayako is for the very slim chance that they'd go for the American remake so we could have Sarah Michelle Gellar as a survivor and I could be Buffy.
