How would the community feel about a 3 strike system for DCing?

The way how it would work is that every week players would be given 3 strikes. These are essentially 3 times they can dc and if they dc more then 3 times then they are prevented from playing for 1 week.

This is to prevent punishment for legitimate reasons for DCing like against hackers or if their game crash. Basically things out of their control.

To prevent swf from abusing it if a person in a swf dc then all of the people apart of the swf gets a strike as well. If a person with 3 strikes in a swf gets the last strike then they will be prevented from playing and the others in the group can't play as long as they are in the same group.

I'm sure there would be some cons to this system but how would people feel about this?

Current system is fine. You DC you take the timeout. If you are crashing that often that's on you and your machine.

In my opinion It would be better to just have bots added to replace the Disconnected player.

The player who DC'd should recieve no more than a 24 hour ban as max.

I honestly think the game should do what csgo does. A match of csgo is longer than a match of dbd and there's only a ban on competitive mode. Dead by Daylight is a casual game more than a competitive in a sense; so why not do 2 strikes with no ban then a 5, 10, 15, 20min. This could reset every 24 hours. I play on the series x and when dead by daylight crashes I get over 10 minute bans at times. It starts with 5minutes currently im pretty sure.

Do you know how the current system works?

If you want anyone at BHVR to get fired, just ask them to sign off to this change and they'll be out of a job in 24h tops.

This game isn’t optimized for harsh dc systems like that.

What scares me is considering some of the decisions BHVR has made in the past. I can totally see someone looking at this idea and saying "Brilliant!. I want it in the next patch"

  • No. The current one is fine i think.

I don't like either end of this package. Going zero-zero-zero-one week is both too lenient on the low end and too harsh on the high end.

The thing is soemtime you get DC because of bhvr or a sudden steam update. So imagine you get DC because of bhvr then you get a steam update unlucky for you something happen near your home and you have no power so that make you DC just like that you are ban for a week because you got unlucky.

The idea is not bad and i gave some example but honestly with bhvr server i would not recommend that idea. But if they had good server like riot games for example im 100% with you

I don't think a system where you can d/c x times with no punishment is fine.

The current system does the job just fine. If you run into an issue that forces you to leave the game, you'll basically suffer no penalty due to the short initial duration. But if you are someone who rage quits constantly you'll suffer long timeouts.

Something similar is already the idea behind the current DC penalty system, the escalating nature of the timeouts don't slap an immediately session-ending ban on someone genuinely losing connection once per month, while it inconveniences habitual disconnectors that can't help it until they hopefully go away for a while.

Unfair for last gen console users.

I think it'd be too unforgiving. As others have said, crashes can cause the survivor to DC against their will.

I like the thought behind it that DCs should be punished harder since it ruins the game for everyone involved, but the system can't tell the difference if it was intentional or not. Until it does, the penalties for now will do otherwise console players will get screwed over.

This. When the RE chapter nuked the consoles and hurt everyone's performance the devs had to shut down the DC penalties the crashing was so bad. While the patches after that helped many there's still players crashing way too often, especially where the RPD map and Nemmy are concerned. Just look around the forums for posts about crash fustrations across several platforms.

If there was a magical way to tell true dc's from crash/connection problems, I'd be all for ramping up actual dc penalties, or tossing them into the salt mines to crack rocks for a few months.

I rarely play with other people when I play survivor, but absolutely not to this suggestion. Punishing others for someone else's DC is just inane.

Three strikes and banned for a week?? Are you kidding me? Granted I have never purposefully DC'd and have never DC'd due to an internet issue/pc issue/server issue more than once or twice a month - but hell no.

I have no issues with the current system as it doesn't severely punish those who may DC due to an internet hiccup or other issue randomly/occasionally.

Nah, just make the timeout progressively longer if it isn't already that way.

Current DC penalty is fine. With poor optimization, such change will be harmful.

3 can be too easy to get, and there's no way to bring that amount down.

Nope, not a fan of this one.

Don't you eventually get banned if you dc when penalty is on? I've seen people on the forums complain about longer dc penalties

One week ban? That would just be the incentive I need to never come back.

  • MrDrMedicman

I play on switch. Every update leads to software errors for about 2 weeks. This system would make the game unplayable for me, for at least that time, and maybe more

This would be abused a lot like survivors putting haddonfield and all strong perks and loop the killer for a long time before they escape and killers might just slug and make the game last long

No, the overall penalty is far too harsh, plus there's no penalty for people just wanting to hope out of a game and screwing people over if it's going to be their first or second time.

The current system is far more effective.

They'd lose most of their playerbase if they did this. People can't always help crashing out especially when their own servers can crash you out.

    Make it 2 weeks.

DC the First game, 5 minutes penalty

DC the Second game, 10 minutes penalty

DC the Third game, PERMANENT BAN!

I've said this more than once.

One side says "This game is for CASUAL PARTIES!!!!" (Break out the suds!)

the other side says "This game is HARDCORE COMPETITIVE SPORTS" (Gets out the team jersey)

So the thing is... You can't please everyone or anyone for that matter. So a "best of both worlds" is a PEACEFUL resolve to this. Which I would say is; Either a 2-mode design which one mode OFFERS Competitive mode with Strict penalties for abandonment of a match and a penalty to ranking, and the other mode being Casual unranked play (but still have some MMR to abilities)

While the other option is the Rank reflecting how much a person participates and chooses to "bail" on matches.

So that way folks are ALL welcome here to play DEAD BY DAYLIGHT! and keep this game ALIVE! 😎

I support punishment for DCing repeatedly for sure.

But.... I recognize that there is some performance issues for certain consoles - and I'll gladly give up a DC penalty if they'd take the time to help our Console cousins first.

i also think this would be a terrible idea, especially in this most recent patch where i seem to get like 6 hour timer logged in the middle of a game where i was about to start running a lf. that guy definitley thinks i dced on purpose but i got that session timeout #########, im only here because i have to burn five minutes while i wait that ######### out anyways. all it would do is discourage people from ever coming back to this game in my opinion.

I honestly would just prefer that the DC system remains as is, and that BHVR sorts out unintentional disconnects. I know that this is an ideal scenario, but that's also why it's the one that we should have.

and in my opinion this is an even worse version of op's idea.

Steam maintenance kicks PC players if in a match. This is viewed as a DC.

With the amount of bugs and crashes in this game, I think it would be a bad idea. I think the current DC system is fine as it is.

If the game were better optimized I'd be open to reworking the DC penalty and perhaps making it more punishing. That being said I'd probably stop playing if I ever got a week ban because of the terrible performance of the game. I've never DC'd intentionally from a round. Ever. And I never will.

But I've absolutely crashed or disconnected from a round more than 3 times in a week and would be devastated to be punished for it.

  • ImBrakingBike
    ImBrakingBike Member Posts: 454

No, but seriously. A game with so many optimization problems can't really be so severe with these punishments. Enough people are being punished already by the way the penalties work right now for reasons that are not really their fault. Sadly, some kind of punishment is needed.

I play on the orginal Xbox and DBD has crashed for me maybe 5 times in the 3 years I've been playing it.
