5.2.0 | The Cenobite's voice over lines have been removed due to complications with the audio files.

Although I liked the line, in some ways I am glad it's gone. The amount of immature people that surfaced, probably the same people who laugh when they pass gas, was a joke. Now I hope that it is forgotten quite quickly as it got old fast.
It was exactly the same everytime I used to go into shops asking if they had a Wii back in the day. Funny, yet embarrassing, for the first couple of responses but they eventually melded into one constant yawnfest.

I'm a big fan of the original, and the book it's based on, which is why the removal of the line bothers me. "The box. You opened it. We came" is the first line uttered by a Cenobite and it only comes more than halfway through the film, during a grand total of probably five minutes of their screen time. It's the introductory line to a character who has absolutely no idea what's going on, a line that in its simplicity heralds the profundity of who the Cenobites are and what they do.
Lauging at the word "came" because it has sexual connotations strikes me as the kind of thing that stops being funny when you're a teenager, so it's disappointing to see that so many players of this game apparently found it to be the height of comedy. Do I know that this is why the line was removed? No. I'm simply saying that if it is, then I'm really disappointed. Wouldn't be the first time that something cool has been ruined by a dumb meme.
19 -
That's okay. They all came together in the movie anyways.

I dunno. It's pretty easy to say, "The voice lines got a different reaction than we wanted, so we pulled them while we reconsider." I feel like it's probably something else. Maybe something about whoever owns the rights to the book vs the movie. The rules about adaptations can get weird.

It feels pretty dirty to remove them last second like this, almost a bait and switch. I really hope BHVR will give an actual answer about this. Between these voice lines being removed and losing the Stranger Things content, I'm starting to have serious concerns about any future licensed content.
10 -
I feel like the fact that they can't comment is clarification enough. It's a licensing issue and they're not returning.
0 -
Thanks for clarifying Mandy (wink, wink)

This is so disappointing. :( I liked the lines. Most of it didn't even involve the meme.
Now he feels a bit lifeless. You need more audio work on him then. Sounds from the movie, or other lines, something.
1 -
Welp, guess I'm not buying Pinhead until (if ever) they readd his voice lines. Lets vote with our wallets, boys.
5 -
The memes killed it for us
2 -
It better be an actual issue and not because of the stupid meme. I refuse to buy it until they put the voice line back. please get a spine, behaviour. On the upside, pinhead received a minor buff since he doesn't say anything when he teleports, just a bell sound
clap pretty good job so far 🤣
7 -
These are the kind of people that ruin good things for everyone else. This is why the game is the way it is.
0 -
Yeah he feels pretty lifeless now since the voice lines were removed. The sounds need a bit more filler if the voice ain't coming back.
With that's said, please bring the voice back!! Was pretty damn excited to finally being able to hear those lines on console, only for it to be taken away 😞
Here's hoping it is just a temporary technical issue, rather than a legality one.
5 -
They'd tell us if it were a technical issue and if it's comming back. But it isn't either of them, so quite simply, they aren't allowed to talk.
Please remember that they haven't ONCE said that ST is going because of license issues. That's what we concluded.
3 -
This is very disappointing really feel like you just stole money from people under false pretenses if were being honest. I love the game and all but thats messed up legal or not.
1 -
Going to completely refute this one due to the wording you used! Patch Notes were out at 10.30am EST, the Chapter came out at 12pm EST - so there was plenty of time to make yourself aware of the the removal of the voice lines. So please choose your words carefully and do not make accusations of theft or fraud again.
7 -
Lol yeah literally an hour and a half before it was released?! When they've watched game play footage up until that point and yes I get sometimes things change but I mean who literally is going to read the "notes" before they go and buy something they've been excited about for what at least a month now? And I did read the notes before I went and downloaded and bought pinhead and I saw no mention of it in game. Who's going to go and read all the fine print if something literally changed like voices being taken out withing an hour the dlc got released. I stick with my wording.
6 -
Yeah, I do not recall reading that they removed the line in the patch notes. Maybe I just skimmed past it? Lol.
3 -
-
who literally is going to read the "notes" before they go and buy something
Yeah guys, why would you check on how that upcoming product is coming along?
Just buy it blindly lol, it has Pinhead in the name so it's going to be 100% okay.
"fine print" Okay, now you're just being funny.
6 -
If it's a licensing issue it is 100% not up to them. So I don't understand your comment, regardless of how many people do or don't buy him, if BHVR was told to remove them then they legally have to.
0 -
Workaround: whenever you teleport just scream it loud so even your neighbors hear it: You opened the box and I came!
3 -
Red Rover, Red Rover. sigh please tell Pinhead to come back over.
0 -
Pinhead should have more lines included:
"We have such sights to show you."
= when picking up a survivor.
"No...don't do that!"
= When a close survivor starts sabotaging a hook.
"Your suffering will be legendary...even in hell."
= When Pinhead gets pallet stunned.
"We'll tear your soul apart."
= When a survivor is sacrificed.
"Oh, no tears please...it's a waste of good suffering."
= When hooking a survivor for the first time.

Legion is a proprietary character, not a licensed character, so BHVR can do whatever they want with it. Not so with Hellraiser characters. Could be that the IP owner said that they couldn't have Chatterer speaking in Pinhead's voice, and they still wanted to sell their $15 Chatterer skin. Could really be just a tech issue.
0 -
If it was a tech issue it would be listed in the "known issues" section. Since it's not that's pretty good indication this is a permanent change.

I will say that it's pretty scummy to advertise a feature of the Cenobite for weeks (in this case the voice over lines) in the PTB, and then announce that you're removing it in patch notes right before it's released. It may not be a case of theft, but it's definitely false advertising.
0 -
False advertising assumes they knew they couldn't keep the voices.
And you can assume that they knew, not gonna rule that possibility out.
You can also assume that something unforeseen happened and that they were certain they could keep the voice in the game up until said unforeseen thing happened.
Just so you know: From a customer's perspective i don't blame how you feel about this ordeal at all.
Of course it feels pretty bad that such a big part of the product is removed shortly before its launch.
But we're missing context, and i really want to know.
0 -
Even if they did know a week before release that they were gonna be removed, it would seem quite odd to single it out and announce that the lines would be removed. Even more so when they can't elaborate on why (in the case it's a legal issue).
It would look quite odd for them to say randomly last week for example "yeah the voice lines are being removed due to complications and we can't tell you why or elaborate beyond that. Sorry".

I have to say that 50% of the reason I bought the DLC was because of having seen streams and vidoes with the classic voice lines. It was so refreshing seeing a killer like that. Made him both more terrifying and I admit made me giggle many times because I'm "immature".
I never even considered they'd end up removing the lines considering the hype they brought during the PTB so I didn't check the patch notes until they loaded up after launching the game, having bought the chapter already, so I feel a bit cheated.
I really hope it's a technical thing and they'll come back eventually because I really like Pinhead as a killer ability-wise but will always be missing the lines.
1 -
Idk, i'd rather hear that then nothing at all.
Situation's weird regardless of their notification.
0 -
Except it was stated as a technical issue in the ptb notes. If they mislead chapter buyers and it was never a bug they intended to fix that'd be really crappy.
5 -
I'll buy the DLC if I know the voice lines are coming back otherwise I'll just wait for a sale at best. Given Pinhead is a terrible killer in regards to game balance I'm not missing out on anything without the voice lines adding to the fun factor.
0 -
I mean who literally is going to read the "notes" before they go and buy something they've been excited about for what at least a month now?
People with common sense.
2 -
The patch notes say it's due to complications with the audio files which would strongly imply they're coming back. Your earlier post about not commenting further strongly implies it's due to legal issues instead which would mean they likely aren't coming back. So are the patch notes misleading or are the voice lines coming back?
Also, an hour and a half notice is not very much. You're assuming that the person is going to check the patch notes before purchasing. Is that really where we're at now? People have to check the patch notes to see how BHVR gutted the new killer? Is that the precedent you're trying to set for the future?
1 -
The notes listed it as a technical issue, not a licensing one. Many players assumed it was a bug to be fixed after release.
1 -
The notes list it as a change from the PTB, not a Known Issue.
0 -
They just said there's "complications". That could mean technical complications or legal ones.
2 -
They said complications _with the audio files. Suggesting that the issue was in-game rather than out of studio.
0 -
I don't know. I still feel if it was just a bug or an issue that they intended on fixing, it would be in the "Known Issues" section instead of where it is in "Changes from PTB" which implies that it is more of a permanent change.
0 -
I thought the "known issues" portion of the notes was where they put stuff that players might occasionally encounter in-game, the total removal of the voicelines, in either case, precludes this.
1 -
Even if we were to use that logic, if this was just a simple bug that they intend on fixing, then there's no way a mod like Mandy would have to keep quiet about it. She could have easily just said that this is a bug or technical complication instead of basically saying that she couldn't comment on the subject.
That is yet another reason why this issue seems to be more then just a technical one. Especially since there's so much talk and backlash about it already. You'd think they'd want to assure people that this is just a temporary issue. But their silence not only here but on other platforms too suggests otherwise.

This is what happens when you take something and change phrases around so the character speaks out of context. If they had just left the line as "You opened the box.???!!!".......none of this would be happening... I guarantee you the "I CAME" part upset the license holder for the simple reason of easily being taken out of context and for the even more obvious reason... PINHEAD NEVER SPEAKS THOSE EXACT WORDS EVER....IN ANY MOVIE... This is why people can't have nice things. When someone gives you permission to borrow their guitar...of course you are going to just play it right? Not use it to squish a [BAD WORD] spider... Taking liberties with stuff that doesn't even belong to you is beyond stupid... I'm sure at this point, they learned their lesson.
0 -
What should they be careful about next, using the word cow? Maybe someone will be offensed.
Or maybe ignore the pussy huntress mask.
Some words have multiple meanings, and you can't change the fact that perverts can't understand "I came" means I arrived and not I ejaculated.
These jokes are funny for the first year you learn about human reproduction.
0 -
Well this is a big disappointment. The voice lines made this killer a lot scarier and the matches more fun but without them things just feel very unexciting. I hope the voice lines are put back soon.
1 -
Tell that to the license holders. I'm sure they don't give AF.
0 -
You are accusing bhvr while it is only the community's immaturity that makes problems.
The only difference from the line in the movie is "we" being changed to "I" and I don't know if you believe a single person saying "we came" is better than saying "I came".
Replacing "came" with "arrived" would be MUCH more different.
The devs can't change that the community finds the word "came" funny.
2 -
I'm saying it doesn't matter whose fault it is. Whatever the license holder wants is what will happen at the end of the day. I don't really care one way or the other tbh. The voice lines are gone and everyone should just get over it lol. xD
0 -
"We came" is in the movies.
If the issue is the "I came" memes, then they could just rerecord them as "We came" again. It doesn't really matter if there's only one killer, you could say he's referring to himself and the Entity.
1 -
And all we needed to do was extrapolate from the semi-silence of a prominent mod on a fourm website to divine the meaning of "issues with audio files" really means.
