Was the latest pallet stun change necessary?

For anybody unaware, the latest update added a change to the pallet rules where it won't stun a killer if the game determines they're on the same side of the pallet as the survivor. I don't know why they thought this scenario needed to be fixed and I didn't give it too much thought at first, but one problem this creates is that depending on the exact positioning pallet rescues turn into either 50/50 gambles, or the rescuer might just have to take an otherwise unnecessary hit just to clip through a killer if they run up to the wrong side of the pallet. This just seems like another weird stipulation to add to pallets on top of all the other buggy issues that have been piling on top of them.
