The problem isn't SBMM; it's what constitutes "High MMR Gameplay" (LONG Contructive rant)
First off, I'd like to say that my Survivor experience with SBMM has been mostly positive. I've been getting matched with a mix of newbie gamers and more experienced Survivors and I've had a fair outcome on most, if not all of my matches. I like to think of myself as a rather experienced player (I look behind myself when I run ๐) and I've been escaping on about half to three quarters of my games, so around 60-70%. However, even if I weren't escaping I really wouldn't care as long as I got decent points.
Now, for the Killer side... geez. It's pretty bad. Speaking from both mine and my brother's experience (he's a Killer main), we've been getting matched against either complete newbie teams (usually console players... no offense) or SWAT teams with 4 Dead Hards and Prove Thyselfs sprinkled among them, with a key user nearly every other game. It makes each game predictable and stale because you always know what to expect: Survivor loops L + T wall, gets caught by mindgame or poor wall-hugging, then presses E and gets an easy correction to a mistake that would have otherwise put them on the hook. Meanwhile two Survivors are pumping out generators with Prove Thyself and someone is either doing a generator by themselves or waiting around a corner to attempt a flashlight save.
My brother and I both are experienced Killer players (I used to be a rank 1 Killer last year for many months in a row while playing Nurse, Legion and later on Pyramid Head without meta perks), so while we are ABLE to deal with these players, it's honestly pretty boring. And no, I'm not complaining about Decisive Strike, any other exhaustion perk, Borrowed Time, heck, even Adrenaline. It's honestly only the fact that 4 Dead Hards are in nearly every game that we play that is so boring and tedious. Yes, you can "wait out" Dead Hard but not when it's being used to reach windows and pallets. Survivors being able to press E and instantly correct any mistake is not healthy for the game. And honestly, I can say that I believe Dead Hard is the only perk that has this negative of an effect on the game--even NOED isn't comparable to Dead Hard. At least NOED can be countered by capable Survivors. Not to mention, if Killer had a perk like Dead Hard as well and could just press E to move forward and then lunge to hit a Survivor, it would be insane and wildly unbalanced. I feel that Dead Hard is just as bad as that, if not worse since one Survivor is only a fourth of the Killer's objective.
And now, onto keys. Honestly, I would be very glad if keys were to be removed from the game. And change hatch to only spawn when one Survivor is remaining or the exits are powered--it's unnecessary otherwise. I'm saying this as someone who mostly plays Survivor! I've played many games where a teammate has taken a key and we've all three escaped through hatch or I've been having a good game as Killer and after I've killed one person three people have a party at the hatch then escape. It only requires three gens to be completed by the time one person dies, everybody... it's not some massive win condition that has to be obtained. Not balanced in any way, shape or form... even moris are near-completely balanced now (I would like moris to be a more natural part of the game, but oh well). Back whenever there were 3-iri head Huntresses, rampant Redhead Pinky Finger Clowns, first hook moris and other things I didn't feel as bad whenever someone would bring a key for a cheeky three-man hatch escape. However, it was not fair then and it is even less fair now.
After all my ranting, I just want to get back to the title of this discussion: High MMR gameplay should have players who are experienced, have good game and map knowledge and know how to loop, repair generators and help teammates. It should be a fair game for both sides, 2k + 2 escape (or 4k, 0k, whatever) and generators actually get completed, rather than the Killer stomping at 5 gens or Survivors blazing through generators and escaping with minimal hooks. With Dead Hard being such a frequent feature in the game, it causes chases to last longer than is acceptable--and with current gen speeds already being difficult to handle, the last thing Dead by Daylight needs is chases being artificially extended through a perk that requires no skill to use in the way it's currently being used, and instantly corrects Survivors' mistakes of not looping properly or planning out a good escape route.
The problem is not SBMM itself; it is what makes up "high MMR gameplay": Dead Hard x4 artificially extending chases and keys cutting the amount of work required for escape by over half.

I don't think u know how the key and hatch works. Its nerfed. Ur knowledge of it is outdated.
And no, if keys are removed, I'd rather not play dbd anymore.

๐คจ Key works exactly like I described... and I'm aware that they nerfed keys to no longer open hatch when charges are depleted, and hatch now only stays open for ten seconds after being opened, but those nerfs honestly don't mean much... it's easy to not use your key and only use it for hatch and if you gather the Survivors with you to find the hatch and leave, then it only being open for ten seconds means nothing.
And sorry friend, but keys aren't balanced and probably need to go bye bye. I'm sorry that would be something that would make you leave but many, many people are sick of dealing with keys and having to play around them every game (frequently to no avail). Even I hate keys as a mostly Survivor gamer, and I tend to avoid them in my lobbies.

Hatch spawns after 4 gens are done. Not 3 as u have mentioned. Otherwise 2 ppl need to be dead.
And no, keys not going anywhere so, sorry friend. No bye bye for keys.

I looked at it on the wiki and I guess you're right... my bad! I feel like it was changed at some point. But either way, I think it's still an unfair game mechanic. Hopefully they're going to do something to keys soon though, but we'll see with part two of the Midchapter tomorrow. I mean, they nerfed Spirit, so hopefully keys and maybe even Dead Hard are next. Maybe change keys into a different item with the same addons (minus the ones related to hatch) so it could be something cool to use, minus the cheese?

I know I'm right becuz I play the game every day. I only play dbd and nothing else. I love the world of dbd and I'm going to play it as long as I can. I learn things thru experience and not by reading some wiki.
This game doesn't need nerfs. This game needs buffs. Nerfs are annoying more so than buffs. All we talk about on the forums is nerfs.
This game was never a fair game. It's been a unfair game ever since I started playing. That is the beauty of it. That's what creates unique and interesting scenarios.

I have most of my knowledge from playing the game as well, but it's nice to have the wiki handy for fact-checking ๐
And I don't think that would work in theory... games need to be balanced, and nerfs are part of balance. The Spirit nerf was definitely necessary, since she is a high kill-rate Killer with no real downsides and low skillfloor. I agree that all Killers could use some changes in one way or another to make them more viable for higher MMR play but not to the level of 90-100% kill rates!
And no, the game is not meant to be fair, but it can be balanced for both sides without removing the asymmetrical nature. You can't say that infinites, god pallets, old Balanced Landing, pallet vacuums, old moris and three iri-head Huntresses were a healthy part of the game, even for it being asymmetrical.

That's the popular belief right there, that I disagree with. This game can never balanced. It just cant.
What needs the focus on is for the game to be fun. Nerfing everything just sucks. I'm still upset they nerf the mori. So now we have to nerf the keys? To 'balanced' the game? Why?
Killers are OP, I'm fine with that. Keys are OP, I'm fine w that. I was fine w how the spirit was before too.
All this just sounds like constant complainers who got nothing else to do.
If u are a survivor main, and don't like keys. Than don't use it.
