Maybe it's just me, but I'm not seeing the supposed benefits of the new skill-based system...
I'm trying to play killers which I know I'm not good at, that I rarely play, in hopes to get "baby" survivors at my level to improve my skill. Instead, I'm getting boosted gold and iridescent "rank 1s" that genrush and leave me with 1 hook if I'm lucky. Since I was focused on the survivor side of the tomes first, my killer rank is only Ash II.
When I switch back to survivor, where I'm currently sitting at Gold, I get teammates who have no idea what they're doing and iridescent killers that keep us from getting even 2 gens done. If I could still de-pip, I'd be back to rank 20 by now, because even in matches where I carry everyone, I'm not progressing any longer.
Am I missing something? Am I doing something wrong? Why am I getting absolutely spanked by the opposing side when the whole point of the new system is to match players of similar skill? It's gotten to a point where I'm happy to DC out of frustration just so I'm forced to play something solo that I'll actually enjoy.

Nope, that's just how easy survivor is.

There's something suspicious in your story. If u are actually so good survivor u will be matched with same level survivors and killers. And there's no way u only meet bad teammates that don't know what gens are. So i doubt it's always their fault.
Also do you dc or suicide as survivor cause u are tilted or whatever as you dc when playing killer? Because i think that's the case cause u ruin your mmr and drop to elo hell. And more u tilt/dc/ whatever more u drop.
And again rank means nothing. I'm currently one step away from gold as Legion player, and it's quite easy to climb. And it took me less than 10 hours to get from ash to silver. But I'm so bored to play killer so i stopped *climbing* and switched to survivor.

I don't understand what's suspicious. My play time availability is usually around 5pm-1am EST, if that has anything to do with it. During these times, survivor queue gradually gets longer and longer, while killer queue gets faster.
Maybe it's just a case of who's available in the queue, but I spent 2 hours on the survivor side last night before giving up, with only 3 escapes (2 by myself as last survivor) and the rest being 5 and 4 gen games despite our best efforts.
As far as quitting, at least as survivor if I want to leave I just AFK and don't struggle on hook. As killer, I've been getting, consistently, teams that have 2 gens done before I'm even able to get a down. Then they sit there and flashlight me even when I go stand in a corner to give up. At that point I'll say ######### it and DC, then go play something else.
As I understand it, wasn't each killer supposed to have a separate skill rating behind the scenes? To encourage people to try new killers and improve? If that's the case, it's not working. Lol.

Either you don know it or just ignore it but the color grades have absolutely nothing to do anymore with the ranking of a player.
Especially since deranking is no longer possible.
An iridescent grade on both sides doesn't mean anything skill wise but a huge amount of playtime since the last monthly reset (still a stupidly short timeframe for "seasons").

U get a bit lower than your current mmr when u try new killer. It is made so u didn't stomp babies. Cause average killer don't need perks or anything else to beat new players. So don't expect 1h players when u try something new.
Also if u get good matches and kill everyone it rises your mmr. And if we talk about *improving* then it requires time to actually learn killer and get good at it. It is expected to loose when u try something new. And even if u are #1 X killer main and you are best player in the world i doubt u can't get a game where u kill anyone.
As for survivors it's not very much i can tell u. From my side, i escape mb 50/50 or 60/40 my games with other Random players. So it's completely different for me. That's why I assume there's something wrong on your side.

I completely understand, which is why since the MMR went live, I've been hesitant to try killer, and absolutely cannot progress unless I use my mains. I'm not talking about "oh I tried nurse once and got stomped, throw controller time"; I mean I've truly been focusing and dedicating my killer time to, say, Huntress and Billy exclusively. But the people I'm getting matched with, despite my repeated bad matches, just seem to be going up in skill level, not down or equal.
I guess what I can glean from these replies is that my problem is trying something new for more than 1 match. My bad. π

I believe they want to balance around 2 kills. So maybe your matches aren't actually considered bad by the system even if you feel like you are doing poorly?

i get problems with it too.. when i play killer ill get people who i simply cannot catch, it might just be a weird little thing where the system is still a bit buggy or maybe they think im a god and if they do thanks for the compliment but i wanna be able to at least 2k in some matches.

I mean, 2k is a fair draw for me. I agree with that. But I truly mean, I'm getting games with people who have a severely higher skill level. When I say "iri rank" I mean people who play with the skill level of rank 1s and matches that last less than 10 minutes. My emblems are either empty or bronze, because I simply can't catch them or land hits.
I'm no pro but on my mains I'm able to get 3-4k (which is why I've avoided using my mains after this reset; I truly wanted to start learning and improving other killers) .
