How does SBMM work exactly?

This is my first game as Slinger since ranks were a thing. Why am I being put up against full meta when I don't even have atleast 5 hours on this guy . I thought each killer would have a separate SBMM but, apparently not even that works

Even with a killer that you've just picked up, you won't be up against total new players - that would be unfair as you've still got some game/map/tile knowledge etc - you know how to cut off a loop for example.

The Grades shown are purely showing the time people have played, time does not equate with skill.

The whole selling point on the MMR system was that you were supposed to be placed with less skilled survivors when you play a new killer or one you have little experience with so that you can learn the killer without getting destroyed. The system doesn't do a very good job of accomplishing that. It gives you a baseline MMR based on your most experienced killer and only lowers it slightly when you're playing a killer that you're not experienced with. It's assumed that because you're really good with Trapper or Pig that you're automatically going to be good enough to play against really good survivors when you pick up Trickster. This system really needs to be tweaked so that it works better in properly matching you based on experience with killer, or scrap that part of the MMR and let us go back to switching killer in lobby since we're not even getting the benefit of easier opponents on our killers we suck with.
