Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

How long will DBD really last?

I wonder this because will this game keep being updated with new killers, survivors and maps for more years to come? Its almost 2022, I wonder if the Devs have any thoughts of making a new DBD Game with diff modes, objectives ect...or will this game just be the same for years and never change? I love DBD im just curious because this game has so much potential to have much more in it then it does now. Im not complaining just wondering will this game ever come to an end one day or just remain the same.

The game is gonna be fine as long as it’s getting supported by BHVR. I hope they won’t ever stop 🥺

As long as its pumping out license killers or original killers the playerbase would just continuously grow. When they finally stop adding new stuff is when the game goes on a steady decline from there.

    they have 2 options.

    1) keep updating DBD and add new stuff while trying to fix(i know it's hard for them, but they can try and we have to believe) the game as much as possible and keep it alive while earning a salary

    2) aim for "dead by daylight 2", stop updating dbd 1 because all your money and workers went on that project, watch the fan get upset because you stopped updating the first game, start losing your fanbase/your popularity.....

option 2 sounds familiar...mmmh, oh yes, i know a game that tried doing that, overwatch 2,...it did not go well.

For at the very least as long as it keeps recieving developer support.

If it was more open to community-created content like many Source games and had community-hosted servers / p2p as a backup solution, I'd even say potentially forever. I can't really see something like Team Fortress 2 ever dying unless Valve intentionally kills it for example, along with the hopeless addicts like me that has been playing that pretty much since it came out that game has had generations of players at this point - old ones get bored, new ones come in. Hell, that community even has rather distinct generations of content creators, community projects, memes and whatever else to go with the generations of players.

That's what can happen when you have a game that is genuinely offering something you can't reaaaaally get anywhere else. Maybe something that gets close, but not quite the same.

I would say forever unless the companies has something to go against them.

I can guess overwatch 2 didn't go so well when the first time I hear about it is in the Dead by Daylight forums.

I'd say easily another 5 years, but hopefully a long time.

Well, it has been going for 5 years.

And they have had many bad ideas during those 5 years and had many bad things in the game. Infinites, old DS, old Ruin, Machine-Gun-Killers, old Moris, Freddy, old Nurse, Crack-Billy...and they kept growing and getting more and more people into the game. So they must do something right...

There are still many licences to hunt and Killer concepts down the line. And more Horror movies and games are created every year to produce more licences to add to the game.

I think this could go on well...for forever.

Maybe sooner or later they will have to bring DbD 2 but even then they do not have to make it as bad as Overwatch 2. The problem with Overwatch, aside from sexism on Blizzards side, was that it implemented many bad mechanics. The worst blow in my opinion was the matchmaking where you could only que for a certain role...in quickmatch... I could no longer play the game for fun with my friends and that killed it. Something similar would be if DbD would outright ban SWF, something that is very unlikely.

I don't think they have any plans for a second game these years.

Maybe in a few years they will decide what to do with new characters and perks and maybe some gameplay changing.

In other games there's up to 100 or 200 characters. i have no idea if 100 characters are going to be on DBD because I'm thinking about the bugs and other issues in the game that characters and perks can cause. this game is pretty old so i don't know how it's going to handle that.

I have hope that they will surprise us with the game in the future, they have a passion for this game and this is what i noticed anyway.

If not, I'm afraid the game will "die". hackers and loyal players are going to rule this game and nothing will change.

Just like any other good games that went down the drain.

This game is still thriving right now so I can't see them coming out with a new game anytime soon if not ever.

Your guess would be correct and the second Behavior tries to pull something like that, I am outta here!

At this point it will last forever regardless of its playerbase.

It will forever be the game where you could play just about any interesting horror movie/game icon + original killers inside an environment so exciting that people spent years trash talking each others.

As a DBD dev said according to the anniversary quotes (rephrased as I don't remember the exact wording):

"As long as players go crazy and trashtalk each other on a regular basis we know the game is doing well. If they stopped talking about the game that's when we would be in trouble"

  • Very long as long as they can keep adding new content. The amount of licenses that DBD has will never be beat. That's the biggest selling point, being able to play with horror legends. Even if a game like VHS has way better game design. They still wouldn't have that selling point.

Well I mean unless behaviour makes another game this is the money maker I'm pretty sure it'll last till the mid 2020s

This is just my opinion but i believe bhvr wanted death garden to take off and then cut all support to dbd because its a nightmare to balance. However that game flopped and they are stuck with their only money maker. As far as dbd 2 i dont think that will happen because of the license hell. They would have to reacquire all of them and have us buy them again.

Going off of some recent news/speculation that I don't think I'm allowed to directly bring up here, this game either has a decently long future or a very short one ahead.

If they own and operate their own servers, it is only the high bandwidth internet connections that are cost. It is not very expensive to run servers like this. But I imagine the license for Freddy, Jason and so forth are a yearly fee to them and probably very expensive. If people continue to buy the game and DLC then the servers would probably keep running. Worst case I think is we just are left with killers with no movie or video game. Like the Wraith and Trapper etc. Nurse seems very Silent Hill to me. But not close enough to pay Konami.

From google. (were everything is true)

How many copies of Dead By daylight have been sold?

    5 million copies sold

On average, through the Steam servers for the game it receives between 30,000 and 50,000 players monthly, but these numbers can also peak as well at the likes of 105,000!Jul 7, 2021

  • Friday the 13th the game is still playable but they aren't allowed to use the license to make new content. I think they can stay in the game but the game can't be live service, which is why they are changing the stranger things perks
