Boons and their potential impact on the game
First of all, this isn't a post about how strong/weak or potentially OP Boon totems are on the PTB, but more about the way they might impact the way people play once they're released on live servers and eventually more of them are added to the game later on.
Now there has been (and there still is) a significant amount of posts about Boons and whether they're a good or bad idea in terms of balance due to their powerful effects and the way they work in general, however I don't think I've seen anyone talk about them regarding the way they might impact the way people play as well as the viability of some perks.
For example Boons can be applied while cleansing a Hex, which means Survivors will be more likely to look for totems even if the Killer does not have Ruin, which will hurt totems like Devour Hope a lot, and Plaything as well but to a lesser extent now that survivors have more of an incentive to look for totems at the beginning of the game to apply their Boons (which as far as I understand cannot be replaced by a hex like NOED and Plaything if no dull totem is available either, correct me if I'm wrong here).
However this will also impact the other side as well to an extent since Survivors will be looking for totems, but it's now going to be a bad idea to actually destroy dull totems in case someone on your team has a Boon perk, meaning Inner strength might be less viable after that update (and that also makes Retribution less strong right as it's being buffed funnily enough, unless blessing a totem procs retribution but I don't think it should), not to mention Self-Care will be pretty much obsolete for the most part since Circle of Healing is just that good anyway.
And since survivors will only be looking for a single totem to apply their boon in most cases it also means perks to find totems might not be as important since Killers will use Hexes less for the most part anyway.
But the worst part about it is that it kind of makes Undying and Ruin the best hexes by an even larger margin, since Undying will show you anyone blessing a dull totem and Ruin won't be affected at all, meaning that despite possibly having less Hexes used by Killers Ruin+Undying will be a little better if Boons are in play even.
Overall it all comes down to the viability of Boons once they do get released but if they remain the same I think they actually won't really make for more variety and might actually have the opposite effect more often that not. Feel free to let me know what you think below as I'm curious to hear you guys' thoughts and might have forgotten to mention some things.
