I don't fully understand the grade system
The way I understand it, grades just indicate how much you play since unlike ranks they're not used for matchmaking purposes anymore. If that's the case, then why do we still need pips in order to get a better grade? If you're the kind of player that's never been able to get to rank one, or in this case grade one, but you play consistently enough, then shouldn't you be able to get there regardless of how good or bad you play? Pips just seem kind of pointless now.

I imagine the pip/emblem system is still in place because (at least for now) a few other things depend on it, like Archive challenges and Adept achievements for killer. It is still a more forgiving system now, though, because you can't depip far enough to lose a grade.

Never really thought about it being tied to achievements before, so I guess that makes some kind of sense, but if that's the case then it highlights just how much it doesn't tie into the game anymore.

Probably, but it's one of the less objectionable leftover mechanics imo. At least this one provides some players with more of a structured challenge for their win, if they don't like the simple kill/escape format.

All you need to know is its a poor system that doesnt work :p

That's a good point. It should probably go back to being tied to BP, TBH.

What are you suggesting? Your grade inceases with every match regardless if you played well or sat in a locker?

Achievements and archives and in general they don't have much reason to scrap it altogether if they want to recycle it for other purposes.
If anything, I think they should remove depips and it seems like a safe change in line with the concept of grades being indicative of time played.

No it doesn't. It's the same as it was before. If you didn't get decent emblems, then you won't pip. If you can't go down in grade then that is nice, but earning pips to get a better grade is just pointless of all it does is measure how much you play.

You misunderstood. I know how the current system works. I'm asking how you want the grade system to work.

The reason why emblems are still live for the visible progression system, while MMR is hidden, is because the emblem system still provides a healthy goal for players, trying to acheive a bit of everything in each game, hooks over kills, etc.
If players are aiming to gain pips, then they'll play in a way more conductive to a fair game.
If players are misguidedly trying to game the MMR system instead of just accepting their natural place, then you get camping and gamethrowing.

My apologies. I think BHVR has already implemented what should be done with grades; and that's a BP reward. Grades indicate the level of devotion that a player has, so I think it's a good idea to reward that with BP or shards. But knowing that you still have to pip in order to have a higher level of devotion/grades doesn't make sense to me.

They should revert it back imo. Nothing wrong with the old ranking system at all.
