Report from Hell: 35 Trials of SoloQ

All of you have heard about soloQ, and some explorers in further regions of experience even actively participate in this peculiar activity on regular basis: out of necessity or for their masochistic pleasure alike. But for those of you interested yet not brave enough to try these extreme kinds of entertainment, today I'll share some of this experience with you!

I've played and briefly documented 35 consecutive games in soloQ, and the results are here:

In summary: out of 35 games I was able to escape 16 times, 7 of which were through a hatch. Our team was able to achieve 4 escapes whopping 2 (TWO!) times, one of which happened with an AFK killer, while killers got pure 4k 16 times and 3k with a hatch 8 more times. Out of 35 game filled with bliss and fun, I was sandbagged by a teammate 9 times, so about every third game I was opposed no only by a killer. SoloQ is for those who desire additional challenges!

One interesting observation is the absence of NOED stat: some killers used it but only once it was actually used to gain a kill. Most of the times killers didn't even need NOED to win, as you can see.

I decided to stop at 35 for now because of how iconic that 35th game was: it was what you'd call the "SoloQ in a nutshell" in the purest of forms. I'll continue to collect data and extend this journal and will make an update when I reach ~100 games or so.

Yes, many of my recent posts are about how bad soloQ is. It's not surprising to see that I speak from experience.

You still escaped 50% of your matches so I don't know why you're complaining

Half of those escapes are the hatch luck, and the escape rate is not the only or the main thing I described there. It's the process, what actually happens during those games, how the random teammates play. It's the friends we made along the way, so to speak.

I felt so bad, I was on my last game of survivor for the night and found my red glyph extremely early. So I wanted to just end it, had my Slippery Meat and Ante Up at the ready. I found the Myers, teabagged him. He took the opportunity to stalk me for what I was worth.

Long story short, apparently it was Tombstone... And some random died for my sins and I ended up escaping because opening the gates would have been faster than dying to him. Rofl.

4 suicides and 1 DC from my side. One in 7 games basically. Too many? You never suicide or just "throw the game" in any way?

And again, I don't consider hatches as true escapes, since it's just luck and they don't give MMR, that's why I stated them separately. If we ignore hatches, the escape rate is 25%.

Also, sandbagging teammates almost every 3rd game is something to complain about too.

I never suicide myself on hook unless I'm sure survivor needs it for hatch. Even chilling on hook for whole minute helps other to get their things and I'm very high about teamplay. And only time i DC was when game crash. Mb i throw time to time cause i played bad, but no, I'm not a player like u.

Seeing how trolly your teammates are, you're probably at low MMR so you're overestimating how hellish SoloQ can be. Also you're DC'd and killed yourself quite a lot so you're lowering your MMR even further and yet you're blaming the game instead if yourself, meh

MMR in work. What do u expect from worst system ever created? Devs never played comp games and doesnt know ######### about ranked and ladders. Untill that system wont be changed u will die in 9\10 trials

I have played about 700 hours of survivor, every single match in solo queue. It definitely has its ups and downs, but on balance it's not as bad as many make it out to be. (although if you play SWF most of the time, it might seem oppressive) I probably escape 40-50% of the time, which feels right to me.

I'm sure I'm at MMR pit at the moment, at what you can call Elo Hell, because escaping through the gates with teammates like this is quite a challenge, and hatches don't give MMR.

Still, I DC'd once and killed myself 4 times, one surrender in seven games is not that much. In those games I killed myself I didn't have a chance to escape anyway, so it didn't really influence my MMR: maybe only a little bit since I died first instead of last, but that's it.

Also, MMR: have you noticed that in many games I wait for my last teammates to die to take the hatch? That's because taking the hatch is better than dying while saving others, so if you play for MMR - you play like this, like a rat. I didn't do it with the emblems, but now I have to. And I bet other survivors do the same, hence the Battle Royale. So yeah, the game is still to blame, at least the Escape Based Matchmaking.

I agree, SBMM sucks and isn't good. They should've kept the old ranks until they got an MMR that functioned or just increase to rank to 50 so people who got to rank 1 were actually good

sadly your plea falls on deaf ears, the devs do not care about the abysmal solo experience, otherwise they would of made the game at least a litle fun to play years ago.

i doubt the devs have ever played solo, they should go play 1k hours of solo surv and see how ######### awful it is

What time of the day do you play on? I found playing late at night usually leads to the same results as yours, but playing during the early night or afternoon I get like 75~80% escape rate (I count hatch escapes as kills mind you). Even on solo Q a lot of my games at this hour end up with the killer getting 3~4 hooks. Faced even a famous streamer from my country on a 2 man SWF and he got only 6 hooks with 1 kill.

This actually applies to both sides. Playing late at night as killer usually leads to very chill and easy games for me, while at the day and early night it's a sweat feast. Funnily enough the role with the shortest queue at that specific time of the day seems to be the easiest one to play.

    *Laughs in Killer main*

Jk, but in all seriousness. Soloq wasn't really that bad to begin with, (You have waaay more bad luck than me apparently o.o)

most of my games survivors weren't absolute potatoes as Expected...

Then again my mmr might be max for no reason whatsoever..

I mean one day I went on a 19win streak as a solo.

Sure solo is weaker than swf but a good group of solos can still beat most killers.

Maybe just maybe you are also not as great as you think? Or was just unlucky. Cant say iv seen a killer miss an attack in a long time

I find Solo Survivor pretty chill and escape at least half of the time (probably more).

This is also my experience. I'm away from my computer where I keep my stats atm so no exact numbers here, but most of my night games have this 40-50% escape rate too, while the games earlier in the day are more like 70%. The funny thing is that the killers usually aren't much different at night, it's mostly the teammates who are so much worse.

For me the killers I get during the day are better than the ones that play at night, but the quality of teammates is so much higher that results are way better.

I get a lot more high/drunk people on my teams/in my games as the night goes on @_@

Trapper and Hag in indoor maps god its just nuts specially Lery is like ugh. I wish all indoor map gone not even rpd is acceptable am a die hard re2 fan. Overall I find after 3 bad games in a row with solos I just play something else till 1 to 2 friends at least is on. No matter how experienced you are its not a win via randoms like 90% of the time.

The game is overwhelmingly killer sided as the stats have always proven. Solo should be a playable game mode with a fair chance at winning.

To show how killer sided the game is, you can be tunneled and lose out of your own control and then your MMR is reset to 1 with baby survivors and a "PRO" killer with 4 slow down perks.

    Unbelievable.

I mean is that bad, didn't we already know this was a thing?

Apologies for my ignorance, but I think since I have only ever really played solo queue I am just so desensitized from dying lol.

What region do you play in? At night I usually play killer, because it's instant killer lobby during night. I play survivor during daytime: from early morning to ~22:00, when the instant survivor lobby switches to instant killer lobby. Didn't notice a difference in quality of my games depending on the period of the day, but I'll try to keep and eye on this.

Solo q needs more Love from the devs. That is a fact. And to be fair, you escaped more times than my average games on low elo hell.

I play on South America server. If I play during the early morning (which I rarely can due to college) I very often get comp players on my team, it's insane.
