Bhvr, any info on when I can play the game?
So basically in case people don't know, there are a lot of cheaters, and ddoxers, some streamers got swatted, people are getting their routers destroyed.
The only way to play right now risk free is to buy a VPN, so why do I have to buy a membership on a vpn to play this game?

On the serious talk, why are you so silent about this topic? It is worse for you to stay quiet because it says that you don't know what you are doing or how can you do something about it.

I’m wondering the same thing. I’d like to play the game but I shouldn’t feel worried to play all because BHVR is so quiet and just doesn’t care about their playerbase’s security.

There is a way to supposedly hide your ip when you play a game on steam now in preferences>ingame>steam network and select "never"
Although i'm not sure if its effective or really do something. Im playing with that activated after what happened.

You dont need to buy a VPN service to create a VPN. You can set one up yourself. It's just easier to pay for a VPN, since its only 20$ or so per year if you get it on sale(which happens at least once a year). Most people lose more pocket change in 3 months. But you can set it up for free.

Big companies at times of crisis are like ducks.
The upper body glides on serenely but the legs are paddling away like mad below the surface of the water.
They'll fix it (they have to - this was a massive gaffe) and they will likely give out some free BP and maybe a skin by way of apology.

What about games that use Steam Networking APIs?
If a game uses our newest networking APIs (ISteamNetworkingSockets and ISteamNetworkingMessages), the traffic can be relayed using Steam Datagram Relay (SDR), Valve's worldwide backbone and network of relays, and you can decide when to allow an app to share your IP address. Under Steam / Settings / In-Game / Steam Networking, there is an option that controls when your IP address is revealed:
Never. Never share your IP with any player. Always relay peer-to-peer traffic.
Always. Always allow the app to share your IP with any player. If the other player also shares their IP address, a direct connection may be established. If not, it will be relayed.
Default. This will not share your IP address, unless it appears necessary to avoid excessive ping times.
Friends Only. Share your IP only with users in your Friends List.
We recommend that most players leave the setting on default. If you experience high ping times and would prefer to risk sharing your IP address to attempt to get a faster connection, you might try changing the value to "Always". Remember that just because you share your IP address does not mean a direct connection will be made. The other player must share their IP address, and NAT traversal must succeed in negotiating the firewalls.
Please note that the game may choose to force the use of a relay for certain connections, such as in a high-stakes competitive mode where DoS attacks are more likely.

SBMM seemed to be wonky a bit earlier, as I was getting instant queues too (and...interesting matchups, including a player with nearly 6000 hours to my 200ish).
Out of interest - what settings did you alter? That p2p thing?

I stopped steam from sharing my ip. oddly, it warned it'd take longer to queue, but these've been the fastest queues ever.

It's a horror channel focused mostly on anime and manga. Unfortunately it has my IRL details on it, so I'm reluctant to give it out on any public forum. Especially after the recent drama on these boards.

I expect we'll see something tomorrow. It's currently almost midnight on a Sunday where BHVR is, and they don't work weekends which is why we haven't heard anything for a couple of days.

That is very true. Some direct acknowledgement of the issue would have been nice, but there was nothing. All we can do is assume we'll see some tomorrow.

As far as I am aware this does NOT work for DbD as DbD does not use that feature at all.

This works a treat when games use Steam's API, but DBD doesn't do that. It's deifnitly worth changing for other games, it just won't apply to DBD. I can't remember their @ but someone confirmed this in the thread I made about it

^Clowning is right. A user from here who's also a game developer explained that modifying those settings has no effect when playing DbD.
So, for now, I guess we have to wait until BHVR makes an announcement, hopefully tomorrow... I was getting burnt out of the game lately so I don't mind not playing for a while, but I sure hope this gets fixed soon, cause it's a very delicate and serious problem. And I hate seeing DbD going through such a dark era.
