Trickster add-ons confusing, pls explain

Trickster has addons that increase main event duration and addons that increase main event duration based on how many knives you hit

But do the first ones increase the activation window time (after hitting 30 knives) or only the duration of the knife throwing? Both?

If so, what is the point of the hit based ones?
