How does MMR work, again?

I have 60 hours on the pc version, and I've been paired with people over 2k hours, it's practically impossible to win when you're playing with people with full meta builds, and you barely have 4 tier 3 perks. Does MMR mean I'm on the same level as these survivors? Because that's really not the case.

It doesn't work. 60 hours of playing normally (ie. not throwing) means you've probably already hit the soft cap for MMR, since it only takes ~20 escapes/3ks or 4ks to hit it from baseline.

I don't understand MMR. Is there not a simpler way to do things?
