Survivor Tips and Tricks Guide
I put together a list of things that i never see newer survivors doing or see them doing too much, as well as many other small things that could make the game a lot easier for them:
Repairing
Don't look for ruin - you're often better just sticking to the generator, and hoping to see it at some point during the game without wasting time actively looking for it. Ruin doesn't actually slow you down that much on gens, and it's good practise for hitting great skill checks
Let go after failing a skill check - After failing a skill check, your repair stops for 3 seconds, but in that time you can you can still get skill checks. If the killer has ruin and you fail a skill check, let go of the gen for 3 seconds, then resume working, therefore decreasing your chances of having to do a ruin skill check
Gen tapping - When the killer has ruin, if you can't ever hit great skill checks, you can gen tap where you repeatedly start and stop repairing the gen, as this stops you from getting skill checks. It's quite slow, so if you're confident that you can even get a few great skill checks, i wouldn't bother with it
Don't tap too fast - When gen tapping, do not tap very quickly as it takes forever, you actually can't get any skill checks until you've been working on the generator for around 2 seconds. It doesn't sound like much, but you can work through gens by gen tapping far faster if you only let go every 2 seconds rather than every 1 second
Spread out the gens - When going between gens as you repair them, it's often a good idea to skip one as if you repair all the gens in one side of the map, the last 3 will end up right next to each other, allowing the killer to essentially secure a win
Hitting great skill checks - There's a tiny amount of delay between hitting space and it registering in your skill check, so to hit greats, you should look slightly in front of the white zone to hit greats. it will take some getting used to, but when you do it takes about 15% less time to do any objective + you can counter ruin
Hiding
Don't fear the heartbeat - If you're on a gen and you hear the heartbeat, you don't always need to run away and hide. Always try and check if the killer is in a chase first, as 95% of the time, (unless he's going right next to you) a killer will ignore a gen being worked on in order to finish a chase
Lockers aren't your friend - Getting in lockers, unless you're doing a duke build or the killer is a doctor (as it prevents his shock), tends to be a bad idea. If you're healthy, you risk losing both hits at once, and if injured, you're gonna make loud noise. As well as this bad killers will check lockers more often, and good killers will be able to hear you in them, so essentially there's never too many great scenarios to hide in lockers, there are better places to hide
Getting Chased
Don't pallet camp - Don't panic and sit at every pallet you get to, waiting for the killer to get there until you throw it down, or even worse, throwing it down when he's not even there yet. Instead, stay calm, if there is a decent loop there and there is some distance between you and the killer, run round the loop until he's getting close to you, and then throw it down. This way pallets last far longer
Blinding at pallets - Most of the time it's a very bad idea to blind a killer breaking a pallet. Since the flashlight nerfs, they blind killers for far less time, and many killers will just listen to your footsteps and follow you anyway. You're much better off running to the next closest pallet or jungle jim
Don't spam space - If you think you're going to get hit slightly before you reach a pallet, don't spam space to throw the pallet down. There are no pallet vacuums anymore, so all that happens is you waste a pallet, and lose the speed boost you would have got after getting hit
Look behind you when you run - One of the biggest differences between good and bad players is using your camera. If you keep calm and take occasional glaces behind you when running away (not too often as you'll run into a wall), you'll get some really good intel on wether the killer is going back on himself, or trying to cut you off. You can then use this information to pick a new route, allowing you to last far longer in chases
Miscellaneous
Dull totems - I see far far too many survivors wasting so much time cleansing dull totems. If you're against a pig, a freddy, a wraith, or a trapper, it's not as bad as they almost certainly will have noed. However, usually you won't manage to cleanse all 5 and the last one will be the most hidden (hence why you haven't cleansed it yet). You're far better off remembering where they were, and if noed activates, go back to where you saw them. I know they give you points, but you get the same amount of points for spending the same amount of time on a gen
Don't sit at the exit gates - If the killer is chasing someone, who you think can maybe be saved, and the exit gates are open, don't run straight to the exit gates to heal. So many survivors do this, and the killer will just go over there and hit you out. Instead run somewhere he wouldn't expect, then when he goes to check the gates, you save your friend
That's the main ones i could think of, but feel free to tell me any important things i missed

Good tips but not the gen taping one and dull totems. Ruin actually helps you get better at hiting great skill checks since your mind wants to hit that tiny area. Also it wastes more time then just hiting the good area and taking the -5%. what's more is that you might not even get a hex skill check or only a few so wasting all that time gen taping is not really worth it. As for dull totems they don't waste that much time and at max you usually find 3 since other survivors also cleanse them. Its better to play safe then get one shoot at the end and get camped.

As far as not looking for Ruin. If I am with randoms I assume they can't hit skill checks and don't know the totem spawns. I know the all spawns on every map so most maps can kill the totem in under a minute.
Survivors should sacrifice games to learn spawns. Once you know them all hexs are useless. Better to kearn it in a day or two imo. Opposed to never really learning a quick totem circuit to cover whole map.

Skill checks are so flaky on PS4 I find it best to hunt down the Ruin.
