Curious about differences between Hex: Pentimento and Boons?

Did the devs ever explain the reasoning between why Hex: Pentimento can't be reused on the same totems but Boons can be reused endlessly? Considering which side is more punished by spending time, it seems like it would be the other way around if anything. I can't really figure out what their logic was with this one.

They just have to make it so that boons can't be reused as well heck maybe even destroy it so you can get pentimento out of it.

That's not accurate and even if it was, it still wouldn't be logical. By default killer perks are supposed to be more powerful than survivor perks because there's only 4 of them compared to 16 survivor perks. But take a look at what Hex: Pentimento does before you even call it more powerful.

It reduces repair speed, healing speed, recovery speed, and exit gate opening speed at 1, 2, 3, and 4 totems respectively at a max of 30%. Two of those things have direct opposites on the boon side. Boon: Circle of Healing and Boon: Exponential increase healing and recovering respectively at a max of 100%. Which means purely in effect alone, the boons already have a 70% surplus over their counter parts. Now just for fun, let's pretend the killer actually manages to get all 4 reductions of Pentimento down (which is very rarely going to happen). Now it's 100 percentage worth of increase vs 120 percentage worth of decrease. Which would be enough to be considered more powerful if Circle of Healing and Exponential didn't also add self-healing and full self-recovery as a bonus that definitely exceeds 20 percentage worth of decrease.

I'd be fine with Pentimento if we could at least Rekindle the Boons. It's just stupid how Totems are supposed to be "Killer's belongings" but survivors are the ones who seem to own them now.

Okay, then lets give pentimento a activate to use ability with 16s ignite timer, and 2s disable time. Youre serious?

Sort of like how the Killer's shack is literally supposed to be their home, but it's often the strongest tile in the entire map for Survivors?

Yeah, some real backwards logic going on.

In a perfect world, this would be true, except COH is possibly the strongest perk in the game right now, therefore it’s not true.

That doesn’t justify making pentimento infinite though - it’s just that boons need to be toned down. That’s it.

The only change pentimento needs is that it needs to somehow work even if survivors choose to boon totems instead of breaking them, but only being able to use it once per totem is not the problem with it.

Or better yet, let's do the exact opposite and make it to where boons can only be used on totems that the killer has modified and once the totem is gone, it can't be reused.

It is a bit funny how maps include totems as part of “the Killer’s belongings” yet they really aren’t the killer’s belongings anymore, are they.

The difference is pentimento really ISN'T a waste of time. It is a map-wide effect instantly, it is so fast you can do it midchase and not lose like any distance, but boons require the survivor to leave their gen, and go apply it. If a survivor even does this twice, that is 28 seconds wasted not counting travel time. The time wasted for a killer to do a pentimento is just BOOP that is it. Not to mention if the survivor wants to get rid of the rekindled totem, it takes time to do it again. Survivor stuff has always been time sinks, while killer is instant.

Boina should be removed by the killers in 14 secs. And there must be a new boon perk that allow all survs to repair 30% faster while active

A good buff to Pentimento would be so when you kick a Boon, it breaks and allows you to rekindle it. Now you are guaranteed to get atleast 1 stack per game

Killers are not allowed to have broken perks. Look how fast Coup the grace got patched lol

It also requires survivors to break the totem in the first place if everyone goes about blessing it that perk is useless.

If 4 people bring in boons and they bless the totems instead of breaking them you basically can't do anything with that hex

You don't need any specific conditions to activate a boon perk as long as there is a totem available whether it's a hex totem or a dull totem you can bless it

When you say “Boons”, you obviously just mean “Circle of Healing”, the other two aren’t game breaking.

And the poster above is right, Hex:Pentimento’s 30% regressions are significantly more impactful on the match if they’re allowed to remain in place than either Boons Shadowstep or Exponential. Circle of Healing is the overpowered Boon, hopefully it will be getting a balance pass in the next mid chapter update though.

Agree to disagree on that, I think Circle of Healing is way more impactful than Shadowstep. (I’m not calling Shadowstep bad, it is useful, just not necessarily better than other reasonably good perks.)

Circle of Healing is literally game changing though. It’s in a different category altogether because of how fast people can just run off and heal as a team with one Boon.

    This whole thread is basically

Biased killer main: devs hate killer perks they only like survivor perks! WAhhHHHhha pentimento should be reused every time to guarantee boring 30% slowdown with holding M1 wow totally fair

seriously, you guys are complaining about something so stupid if pentimento could be used infinite times it would suck image 30% slowdown on objectives forever. It’s strong but it’s not good game design it’s not fun. Yes you could say boons are the Same but it’s only 24 meters this is infinite range! No wonder the devs don’t listen to you
