Why doesn't deliverance work if you're the last survivor?
It seems like a bit of an oversight that deliverance is completely ignored if you're the last survivor to be hooked (where you go straight to struggle regardless of your hook state). It doesn't seem like there's any actual purpose to this mechanic, to me at least.

It is kinda weird that it doesn't work if you're the last survivor, but it also begs the question "what would it accomplish if you're the last survivor?". The answer is probably nothing.

Because the game is over at that point.
Just use Deliverance earlier when it'll hurt the killer's pressure.

Well, if it worked, it would have just wasted everyone's time, since the Killer would just picked you back up.
I wouldn't mind if it gave you bloodpoints when you cannot use it tho.

Well have I got quite the story for you guys
I was hooked right next to an open gate, with all my teammates dead, with DS ready to activate and deliverance up. I got hooked, I got sacrificed, and then I spent the next hour crying in my bathtub because I forgot about the hook stage process for final survivors.

Well I actually had DS and deliverance so it's actually just 2 more second chances, plus an open gate and the hatch

Because, barring some fringe scenarios; you're dead. Even if you jump off the hook; the Killer is 3 feet away and will just smack you & put you back on that hook.
You're dead, and anything else is a waste of yours, and the Killer's time.

Hatch isn't too uncommon, neither is DS

So the Killer slugs you for 60 seconds, and/or closes the hatch. Or just leaves you slugged until you bleed out, or until EGS kills you.
You can't open the hatch while slugged. And you will either crawl around, MAYBE get to a door, or die to the EGC. Or he will wait for 60 seconds and re-hook you.
You're acting like being the last hook with Deliverance, with the gates open, and with you in range of the gates, is more common than just being hooked again. It's not.

I dunno about chloroform, but roasted chicken liver seasoned with sumac is delicious. Cooked fava beans mashed with garlic, lemon juice, cumin, salt, pepper, tahini and a side of fresh pita bread is also delicious.

Slugging is not guaranteed, especially at the ranks I'm playing at. Even if the entire game was a slugfest, there's always the off-chance that there's a door nearby, you have unbreakable, and even soul guard if you're not like the other girls.

So you think every match should be dragged out on the off chance that some people are running a build specific to getting off the hook AND picking themselves up, AND an open door or hatch is nearby AND the Killer has not closed said hatch?
The devs have said this is almost a non-event, which is why Survivors die if they're the last hook.

It's not guaranteed now. It would be if there's even the slightest chance of this sort of thing happening.

You can just omit the sumac and roast the livers with onions, salt, garlic and red pepper flakes. If you want to spruce it up a little more, some allspice is nice, but that's only if you like it. A little bit of cumin and ginger is tasty too, but I don't think it works with allspice.

Back when you could do this(Yes it was possible and was purposely removed) it legit just ended up causing bleedouts while wasting both the killer's and survivor's time in most cases.
Also just think about it like this:
You failed your main objective aka generators.
You failed to get hatch.
(If hatch is closed)You failed to get the gates.
Why should you get a 3rd/4th chance after failing at all objectives?

Well it's not necessarily just my failure. Playing survivor is a team game, which isn't at all helpful at my ranks. Plus, whether or not second chance perks are deserved is another conversation entirely--I'm just talking about Deliverance seeming inconsistent.

I am sorry that I came off like I was talking about you specifically.
I meant from the dev's Point of View of the survivors in said situation and why they changed it.
As it used to work if you were the last survivor but got changed for all the reasons I mentioned(Forced a lot of bleedouts/Wasted everyone's time/Was just not needed with the multiple last chance mechanics).

That entire statement relies solely on the idea that the killer thinks you are the best survivor to go after at this moment in time and they don't see any other survivors around. You can't simply "Just use Deliverance earlier" if the killer won't chase you.

Don't be sorry, we're all just people with opinions the internet--things get misconstrued all the time. I didn't really take it that you were specifically talking about me either, for what that's worth.
I can understand that it extends the game--maybe even to an trolling level. But it's the same with a lot of other perks and strategies; not least among them being slugging.

Yeah, sounds weird imo. I mean, if you have DH you can avoid the insta-down, if you have DS you can d-strike if they catch you, if Unbreakable you can get up if they slug you. There are a lot of perks there that are negated just to prevent another what? 20 seconds of a match?.
Sounds weird, especially when there doesn't seem to be anything else done in other similar scenarios like unnecessarily bleeding out survivors and teabagging/flashlight dances at exit gates, two things that contribute nothing at all and are still there.

When you are the last survivor the first and second hook stages are bypassed entirely. This is because when you COULD kobe as the last survivor, all it led to was getting downed and slugged for 60 seconds to wait out DS. (Or until you bleed out for the audacity.) The only reason you physically see them is because the animations still have to resolve in order despite the hook stages being 'complete'.

Well, you have earned the kobe and DS is just there. Getting to that point when everybody's dead is the same as getting to the point when everybody's alive, so I don't see necessarily why it being at the end is the problem--sounds more like a critique of slugging out DS, to me

Honestly if it were me I would have just added a perk that gave you endurance when being unhooked. (Like self BT.)

I think deliverance could be a bit more consistent, since you just need to get a hook rescue before getting hooked yourself.
You’re right, it would definitely be similar to flip flop+power struggle, but I take that as a sign to change flip flop+power struggle; both perks are kind of underwhelming, and I wish they’d buff both of them so they could stand up for themselves.

Unfortunately there will be times where you get hooked before you can get an unhook and then its just a dead perk. I would say its consistency scales with the skill of the user. It would be nice if perks were more powerful in general, but the devs seem to be focused on needing multiple perks to accomplish one specific thing really well.

How is it over?
The hatch has spawned and might not be closed. Maybe the gates are open and everyone let you to die.
There are situations where it would not be over if you could unhook yourself.

Yeah this is why I don't run deliverance anymore as I had a bad experience with it many months ago. I ran it and didn't get downed the whole game but did multiple rescues so it was active. I got downed whilst looking for the hatch as the killer had NOED, and they hooked me and left me (presumably to go close hatch) for the extra points. It annoyed me that I wasn't able to use deliverance at this stage. I know the argument is that you're unlikely to win in a 1v1 with a killer once the hatch is closed, but just because it's unlikely it doesn't mean it's impossible. I've seen multiple examples where survivors have managed to power up exit gates once the hatch has been closed, or had a key to reopen the hatch. They should fix this imo.
