I need clarity on the Bubba mask change.
Can anyone tell me if the people responsible for the racist behavior were banned? I have heard there were streamers who were harassed. As well as people of color who were continually harassed. Does anyone know if those responsible were held accountable? Or Is the removing of the Claudette face the only thing that has been done?

We have no way of knowing, you could ask a dev, but they would probably say "we can't tell you"

they most likely aren't banned and aren't going to be banned. That would require a working report system but since it only takes into account pre game and post game chat...

They are, if I am right removing ALL the masks, but can we stop saying "people of colour" I just find we can use a better term, we are ALL people of colour, different colours. Removing of the masks I don't get I really don't, I do believe they are removing them all.

The masks were removed due to people using them to specifically target streamers or people playing Claudette, Adam, and Tapp with the mask and only target them, they would ignore anyone who was white and target everyone else. And by target a Live Streamer actually was stream sniped and basically had her games ruined solely for the sake of ruining them due to her skin colour
But to anyone saying “its just a game” I suggest learning why people play games, some people play it as an escape from whatever is happening irl and would prefer to play something and relax, people used Bubba’s smartface mask to specifically target people
And another thing if you guys are complaining about a free cosmetic being removed and replaced with 6k iri shards then thats just sad

I can understand why a twitch streamer would be upset but removing the masks won't stop asshats from harassing them.

And another thing, this has been a priority of both the maker of bubba’s survivor masks and well, quite literally Not_Queen herself, to get rid of the mask
The artist of the mask even expressed joy about the mask being removed
its simply the devs not wanting something in dbd being used as Blackface and not a normal cosmetic

I'm curious to know why the route of the bubba faces being client side only wasn't taken? That way only the face they have selected will show on other killers. Just a thought. 6k shards isn't that bad tbh...

It’s funny. I’m a Claudette main and I was never tunneled by a smart face. Been tunneled a lot by normal LF though. 😅.

We cannot answer what action has been taken against a player. That is between us and the player, it's not something that's ever discussed with 3rd parties.
And yes, stopping racial harassment is probably next to impossible but we are certainly not prepared to give people the tools to use - hence the removal of the masks.

If Survivors can still somehow see it then that solves nothing and as Killer you can't see it anyway.

But they choose what they want to see on bubba's face. If they don't wanna see that happen then they could just choose any of the others or just the default! :D

Oh so a setting in the options that determines what you see? That could probably work but seems to be relatively high effort to implement.

You understand you're not going to stop racial harassment in DBD without removing Claudette, Tapp, Adam, Elodie, endgame chat, and also somehow removing Twitch, right? Every single one of these things is a tool.
People will find ways to be shitheels in game and you're correct that you can't truly stop that. But removing stuff in the game isn't the answer, because the people that will do this will find other avenues to express their ######### nature as long as they remain in the game, and removing their toys... at some point you're left with scorched earth, and you've burned plenty of valuable content along the way. This was always a moderation problem and could have been solved if egregiously bad actors were blocked from coming back with throwaway accounts, the game actually saved match recordings so silent-but-obvious racism didn't fly completely under the radar, and it didn't take weeks for reports to do anything, if they ever do.
The whole thing leaves a sour taste in my mouth because it signals to me that BHVR is more interested in a CYOA instead of putting in the resources to address the real issue.

I did ask if we had tools in place to prevent racist behavior... I was talking about the report system that people rely on for behavior like this

Racial harassment had nothing to do with a dumb item in the game. Its the racist end game chats. Removing an item doesn't stop hateful people from being hateful.

I mean, that's absolutely ######### disgusting and I'm so sorry you had to keep dealing with this piece of human excrement... but to me, this just highlights how this problem isn't solved. This player is able to be virulently toxic, makes zero effort to mask their motives in chat logs which are explicitly recorded, says the most horrible things... and despite being reported repeatedly over a long period of time, nothing happens to him and he's allowed to keep going.
He won't have Smartface anymore. Alright. But he's still here, and he's still going to be here until that dusty pile of reports gets looked at... when, a month and a half from now? That guy needs to be removed from the game immediately - #########, he needed to be removed from the game ages ago. BHVR ignores the safety and wellbeing of its players when it leaves moderation to such a backburner role.

I mean are we really surprised? When it comes to BHVR, they're all talk about this and that, and little to no action.
Same goes for hackers who stream all day everyday on twitch themselves hacking, and what has been done? Nothing. Same thing goes for harassment in end game chat.
