Alrighty people, the time to figure out the Anniversary Chapter is near...

WE GOTTA START ASKING QUESTIONS AND PREPARE AS TO WHAT WE'RE GONNA GET FOR OUR ANNIVERSARY CHAPTER!!!

Anywho, I have two theories with no real evidence so far.

  1. The anniversary chapter will either be original, due to the overhaul of licensed content we had, or
  2. The anniversary chapter is licensed, but it might be something really unexpected (or its fnaf lmao)

Again, I have no real evidence that indicates any of these, so take it with a grain of salt. But I'd also like what you guys are betting on. Have fun and respect each other's opinions.

I am kinda hoping that it’s gonna be original and thus would come with many great and significant base game changes (that new mechanic that started as early game collapse concept, Mori and hatch incorporated in base game, facecamp nerf, survivor gameplay overhaul to make it not as dull…)

that or Alien. If it’s licensed it should be something big like Alien, Friday the 13th. I don’t think Child’s Play or Candyman would be big enough after RE anniversary and Ring and Hellraiser just joining recently..

Curtain Call was the anniversary chapter iirc. The year before that didn’t have a dedicated anniversary chapter.

and Curtain Call did come with the in-game shop I think.

So 3 out of 4 anniversary stream have been for liscensed content. I know they've done 3 liscensed chapters/paragraphs in a row before. So although when they did that, it was a little bit of a mess, they've done it before so I can see them doing it again. I feel like there's a good chance that after Ringu and the hypothetical licensed anniversary chapter, they very well may do like 3 original chapters in a row to balance things out a bit.

So far all the Anniversary licenses were big so my guess is FNAF or Alien.

And Bioshock; lets not forget the pipedream of Bioshock. Gosh, Big Daddy Killer with a meaty drill and some obession mechanic that let you switch over to red lights and an awesome Rupture map in all its rotten glory. Jack or Booker would be some nice survivors, too. Elizabeth would be cute as heck, but I wouldn't want to see her dimensional powers diminished to a "Boon: Supply Crate", even though I could somehow see it.

Another fun idea could be "Boon: Alternative Timeline" which would make breakable walls and dropped/broken pallets phase back and forth between their two states or going even wilder and switch around the variable setups of the map within the Boons area constantly.

After the recent gigantic poll by DBDLeaks, it seems like three biggest grabs DBD could get at this point in time are, FNAF, F13 and Alien. I have a feeling @dugman will be in here at any point in time with his opinions(which are very good btw) but, let's break it down a little bit.

I feel as though it will follow in the tracks of the last two anniversary's and, not only be a licensed chapter but, it might be a video game chapter. And, I'm thinking(tinfoil hat time) there going to do a reversed pattern from last year. Last year, it was a game leading into movie, this year, it'll be a movie leading into a game. Now, let's break down the picks.

FNAF is a omega juggernaut right now and, there's been almost non stop requests for it for awhile now.

F13 is also, of course, a juggernaut but, despite the fact that it got done with it's legal issues, Miller and Sean are now hashing out how to split profits and, I believe Victor Miller has said it shouldn't take too long before they get things settled but, will it be in time for a anniversary chapter? I personally don't believe so.

Alien is another huge want from the community. People(along with me) want more monsters in the game and Alien would perfectly fit that bill. The big issue is... Disney. Disney is very well known for being strict with their IP's and, not only that, they go TO YOU, you don't go to them, you'll be laughed out of the building if you do such a thing. That said though, they have been recently going more in the gaming market with the Alien franchise so, who knows... maybe BHVR was contacted.

The two surprise picks are possibly Dead Space and Bioshock. They both have new games supposed to be coming out or, at least, announced in 2022 so, they could be surprise grabs.

@Cornpopers_Evan - Thanks for the shout out! 🙂

Honestly I'm as much in the dark as you guys on who the Anniversary killer will be. I'll be a little surprised if it's not a licensed character though since those are bigger draws than original characters, but anything's possible.

Just off-hand guesses for top picks are basically things already mentioned.

    • Five Nights at Freddy's is a massive IP. I've never played the game so I have no horse in that fight but I know for sure there are a ton of people who would freak out if they got this one
    • Friday the 13th is a contender since we know for sure Behaviour has tried to get this license before and some of the legal hurdles around it cleared up recently. And it certainly is an IP worth an anniversary release!
    • Alien is a dark horse. It would be great to have it in the game but like people said above it's owned by Disney so it's pretty likely that IP is already tied up somehow. So hurray if it got in the game, I'm not holding my breath though. (Same goes for Predator, also owned by Disney)
    • Dead Space and Bioshock were mentioned too. Again, never played these, I do see there's a Dead Space remake in the works though. That could go either way, they could try and get it in DbD for cross promotion or it could be locked up because of some exclusive licensing thing. Not bad picks though. 🤷‍♂️
    • Slenderman and It are also both up there in the strawpoll. I could see either of them being picked up potentially. Same with Candyman

Some less likely sounding ones from the poll are

    • Scooby Doo probably wouldn't happen since it's a cartoon aimed at kids so it's not likely they'd want to license it in a Mature rated video game. (They did do a Scooby Doo episode on Supernatural which was pretty hilarious, but that was more satire than watching the Scooby gang get shoved on meat hooks screaming for their lives.)
    • Chucky would be fun but it's hard to imagine mechanically how they'd get him to work. I guess he'd run around like Victor and have a special animation for carrying and hooks kind of like how Pyramid Head has a special Cage animation? Just difficult to picture it.
    • Walking Dead is certainly creepy, certainly there are some good survivor candidates in it. Not sure about the killer though, Neegan I suppose? Or maybe Beta who was the massive right hand man from the Whisperers?
    • The Thing would be a fantastic license if they could get it, the only problem being I think they've tried in the past to make a killer who could mimic a survivor and shelved the idea. Hope springs eternal though!
    • The Shining would be really awesome as a map or a pair of maps, imagine chasing people down in the hedge maze and hotel? Jack Torrence isn't all that exciting a killer though.
    • American Horror Story has a few possibly decent characters in it. That show is kind of all over the place thematically so hard to tell where they'd even want to go with it.
    • Hannibal Lector is a great character but probably not a great killer for the game. He's much more of a talker and planner than a walk around slashing random people type killer. Then again they added Amanda from Saw so who knows?
    • Supernatural is my pet IP I'd love to see. Winchesters as survivors, a Demon as a killer, the Bunker as the map. Sign me up! I have a feeling though if the Supernatural IP holders were interested they'd have sought a deal a while ago when the show was still on the air.
    • DC Comics is unlikely. Some of Batman's villains would make decent killers though (I could definitely see Scarecrow, Bane, Croc, The Bat who Laughs or Zsasz.) Likewise for Marvel characters, there's a few that might fit but I find it hard to picture Disney and Marvel lending them over to DbD.
    • Jeepers Creepers is in licensing and legal hell. Great character but probably never going to happen.

And a license I didn't see on the strawpoll

    • Final Destination. Imagine a killer that is actually an invisible avatar that manipulates the environment to kill the survivors. I doubt it would happen since it's one of those ones that's mechanically hard to picture, but if they could figure out a good way to do it I'd be all in. 🙂

no way it's gonna be original, bhvr dropped the ball by letting artist get leaked and everyone is bored as ######### because ringu doesn't come til march and the midchapter was disappointing. i'm betting it'll be a big name license to try and renew interest for the people leaving or wanting to leave.

Good game but not a big enough licence. Old series that not enough people played. If they did a chapter on it then I might go back and play the games lol

It's probably going to be licensed.

Alien is my personal wish, tho I'm not expecting it since I'm pretty sure it's owned by Disney, so big no no.

FNaF is more of a "when" than "if" question at this point seeing as how profitable it would be, tho if it ever came to the game, it would flop in the creativity department.

F13 is a no-brainer, big license, Jason is very well-known but it would be hard for him to get a unique Power

Never understood why people want FNAF. You cant even walk in this game. You are stuck in a chair watching security cameras.

Like how does that that transition to DBD?

I already found for Silent Hill and Resident Evil. Trust me guys.

It's pretty hard to transition FNaF into DbD, tho it wouldn't be impossible. For example, a Survivor wouldn't work at all. There's been like 3 confirmed, "realistic" looking faces in the whole franchise, and 2 of them are children's faces, so no no. As for a Killer, Springtrap would work, but for him to get a Power, it'd be hard since all he does in FNaF 3 is walk, run, crawl, jumpscare. If BHVR were to turn into Chads and copy my concept, then they'd have something unique imo

    probably a video game license

  • jesterkind
    jesterkind Member Posts: 7,854

If it is a license, the one that would make me most happy would probably be Alien- go for a combination of movie and game, give us Ellen Ripley as a survivor but the Sevastapol as a map instead of [insert the ship's name in the movie, I haven't actually seen it]. It's probably less likely due to licensing, but all the other licenses I'd want would be far too small to justify being an anniversary reveal.

Though man, I would very much respect their announcement being "ok we're doing a paragraph with John Constantine as a survivor", that'd be a big dick move.

It should be bigger name than Ringu. So what we have?

If they wanna go for free license we have Dracula, Werewolf and maybe Frakenstein (?).

There is bigger licenses than Ringu: Chucky, Jason, Pennywise, Alien, Predator, Terminator, Bioshock, Dead Space, FNaF, Scooby Doo. I am sure there is more licenses. So we have so much options.

The ship in the original movie is called Nostromo, and you should definitely watch it.

but i would love to see a combination of movie and game, especially with Amanda Ripley as a Legendary Ellen character. Maybe go full out and make two maps within the same Realm (Nostromo and Sevastopol).

The most recent FNAF lets you walk around and control an animatronic Freddy Fazbear

  • grayon444
    grayon444 Member Posts: 757

They dont take characters from the most recent entrys. They always go for OGs. So content from first 3 games is guaranteed.

It probably will more than likely be a license chapter considering we've had 3 in a row for the anniversary. The ones that could be most likely are probably FNAF because of all the speculation we thought it being Springtrap during the Hellraiser teases so BHVR definitely heard the requests for this chapter. However the other one that could likely happen now is Friday the 13th. Since the lawsuit is now done for the F13 franchise Jason now has a better opportunity to come into the realm.

That was because the company that made the original didnt let them get the rights.

But there was no way Behaviour was gonna settle with no Freddy so this is why they went for the 2010 version.

Same with Ghostface. They couldnt get the rights to the Scream franchise so they got the rights from the company that made the Ghostface mask.

This is why we have Danny Ghostface and not Billy Loomis. Its also why we dont have Sidney Prescott.

Still, ultimately, they are at the mercy of the license holders. At the end of the day, it's their franchise and if they want the newest characters to be promoted then, so be it. Yes, BHVR will try their hardest to grab some of the original material but, they'll settle for what they can get really.

Not saying that's good or bad(it probably does suck on BHVR's end more though), it's just kinda the way the licensing world works.

Hm, this conversation went from "Fnaf wont transition well in DBD" to "Which FNAF characters will be in DBD".

  • Cornpopers_Evan
    Cornpopers_Evan Member Posts: 2,428

    Yeah, basically! lol

Personally thoguh, I've always disagreed with the whole "FNAF won't transition/fit well into DBD" statement. If they can make Pig and Pinhead work going on active chases, I think they can make FNAF work just as fine. Now, if the power is creative, that's a whole different can of worms, they'll def reuse the AI created for Nemesis and Pinhead though. As for the whole "fitting in" aspect, well, I think THAT is a whole load if you ask me. This vid legit summarizes it almost perfectly in my opinion.

And I mean, as for the characters... I still feel the entire concept works best as the first chapter with a map and a killer with no survivor.

Map would be too small. Would not work.

I was a huge fan when the series came out (I was in 5th grade btw).

And followed the first 3 games. As they are the only good ones in my opinion. So springtrap would be the best option.

    My point is..

We never see those characters move or do anything. They only walk, crawl and jumpscare. How is this gonna come all together in DBD?

  • Cornpopers_Evan
    Cornpopers_Evan Member Posts: 2,428

Alright, warning, this is a lot of text I know, sorry in advance.

I think they could do something very unique with map actually, if they wanted to, because of the fact that The Entity itself takes from fragments of characters memories, it could play off of what was going on with the RPD map with The Entity "filling" the gaps and combining a lot of the locations together to create a fairly big map. Though I disagree with you on the first three being the only good games, I DO however agree that, yeah, Springtrap or, at least, a variation of his would be the best option easily to pick from.

I'm honestly not very creative when it comes to power ideas but, I'll throw some ideas. There are three main aspects that I think they'd combine. They'd probably have security cams set up to be able to monitor what's going on around the maps, they'd probably also have other AI animatronics that might have something akin to how Pinhead's teleport works with the little red arrow but, instead of teleporting, that's how you activate a specific animatronic to patrol a area. The final piece is a toss up between two ideas that still relate to each other, the springlock suits. They'd either be a simple teleport option for you or they could work as a combination of Pig and Pyramid Head's cages, they'd be something you put the survivors into and then another survivor would have to save you as the survivor in the springlock suit does a little minigame to, well, survive.

If they want to go REALLY nutty and do something 100% unique with this, they could do something I like to call "Until the Clock Chimes" turning a standard match that would be filled with gens into a game of survival until the survivors reach a certain time and which the gates can be open. As cool as I personally think this sounds, it would probably be easily abusable because, let's be real, people would locker hop and hide in corners the entire time. That's the beauty of this possible DLC in my opinion, they could get super creative if they wanted too. Like I said though, coming up with power ideas is NOT my strong suit but hey, I gave it a shake! xD
