Are TTVs Toxic? Are killers bias towards TTVs?
I’m genuinely curious.
The other day I loaded into a lobby where one of the players put in chat that I was toxic for advertising my stream by having TTV in my name. As well as a lot of killers have been face camping and tunneling me for having TTV in my name. I normally keep a positive attitude throughout all of my encounters like this and don’t let it get to me but it made me wonder… is it right for a player to automatically assume a streamer is toxic without going into their stream if they are live? and is it OK for the killer to only tunnel the TTV without motive or seeing if they really are toxic?
The one thing that annoys me is that people automatically assume that I am toxic just for having TTV in my name when they don’t come to check out to see what kind of streamer I am.
anyway I want to know other peoples thoughts on this topic! Thanks!

The answer is no.
Putting TTV in your name doesn't make you toxic.

I have TTV in my name as killer and survivor IF im streaming. I dont use it if im offline.
I'm never toxic to anyone not the killers nor the survivors no matter what. Even if they are toxic i just walk away. I do get tunneled sometimes but i think ttv has nothing to do with it. My friends get tunneled just the same.
There are some TTVs that have their toxic friend squads with them so yeah sadly there are twitchers that think its fun to be toxic. Usually survivors too. I jus think that if you have a platform to stream on at least act like an adult and be respectful, but there are scummy people without and with the ttv and some killers do like to tunnel the streamers due to this.
2 -
There are some toxic TTVs, just like how there are toxic people everywhere. Being a TTV doesn't make you toxic.
5 -
I wonder how many times I've been recorded dying in stupid ways.
4 -
Yes. But actually no
2 -
Some are, some aren't.
I remember this one girl on Fractured Cowshed, really close game, I accidentally tunneled her because she was out in the open injured and I was panicking, having completely lost track of who is on which hook. Super chill about it, very lovely person.
4 men SWF with BNPs, call me all sorts of names just because I was better than them despite not even playing sweaty. They can take every advantage under the sun but if I'm not playing a Killer they approve of, I'm just a noob looking for an easy game.
1 -
Yes, but actually no.
Here is the Dark of it: while most TTV peeps are just like everyone else, and a lot of them are actually quite chill and nice people, there is a perchant for getting into more sweaty and toxic games with TTVs. The reason is twofold I think.
1) TTV probably are good gamers and take gaming serious enough that they are confident enough to stream it. Of course not all TTVs fall into this categorie, but the chances are way higher then with some randoms.
2) and this is the meat of the whole affaire, TTVs are content providers, and might be interested in humoring their audience and provide a good show. And assembling a toxic bully squad that shows every trick in the book in order to deny the killer is a good way to satisfy a certain audience. After the third or so utterly aweful TTV bully-squad-experience some killers might decide to just dodge lobbies with TTV names in them, just because they don't wanna sweat the next game, be humiliated or even taken the game sorta hostage.
I do it myself rather regularly. Sometimes I am in an all-commers mood and don't shirk away from a challenge, so I don't mind the chance that the next trial might be seriously taxing and tough. Some other time though I might just wanna chill and not play too serious, so I don't wanna roll some loaded dice on the matter, but just try my normal luck.
Once again, TTV players aren't inherently sweaty or toxic, but they try to entertain their audience and are most of the time some serious gamers, so you need to be in the right mood in order to stomach a tough as nails game. But if I ever see you I will give you a fair match :) Pinky-Promise.

No, but I'll tend to dodge them. Especially Russian TTVs. I'm sure it's not in any way indicative of Russian players or people in general, but some of the absolute worst times I've had with this game has been against streamers with Cyrillic names.
I mostly like to play chill, but I've literally never run into a chill, fun TTVer. They are always super sweaty, will use every broken loop and perk in the book and are all too often extremely BM on top of it. At least the survivor TTVers I've played against.
I've only ever faced 3 TTV killers, and they were at least polite.

Toxic? No. But you guys do have a bad reputation for sucking at the game though. Also being entitled. Too many of y’all keep running to the hooked survivor while the killer is chasing y’all. That doesn’t make any sense. It doesn’t matter if you have borrowed time. Someone else will get the survivor while you keep the killer distracted. Why trade hooks and make the killer’s job easier, and your teammates’ job harder?
Sorry for the rant, but I have TTV PTSD. 🤣
1 -
Actually I tend to do more wild stuff if there's a ttv and they're not been a jerk. I'll go for crazy shots or maybe mess around with them. Try to help give there veiwers a decent show.

Oh, man... I ran into a TTV as a Pyramid Head committed to tunneling. I had to put on a show for their viewers. I beat them on hook for awhile and apparently they were a swf, because they did everything they could to stop me and it ended with a 4 man bleedout and a DC from the solo. I felt bad while I did it, but I needed to meme.
7 -
I wouldn't say every streamer is toxic, but in my experience there is definitely a higher rate in toxicity because people think acting like that is more entertaining. They also tend to play in larger SWF stacks as well compared to the average player which leads to many more games with far too much efficiency and coordination which gives way to having enough leeway in a game to engage in the more toxic side.
Personally for the last few months I've just decided to avoid lobbies with TTVs in them, both for the above reasons and that I don't like the idea that if I don't have a good game it could be made more public and mocked relentlessly. I've noticed that the game has been much more enjoyable and less stressful since I made that choice.
3 -
I am still trying to figure out if you are just acting your role or if you are just the super chad killer. Either way i once again applaude you :)
3 -
Are survivors toxic? Are killers toxic? There is your answer.
2 -
I mean every time I tune in after a match, the TTV is:
- Finding X reason to complain, say I'm bad, a perk I'm using is dumb, etc when there is a 4E.
- Finding X reason to complain, say I'm bad, a perk I'm using is dumb, etc when there is a 4k.
- Finding X reason to complain, say I'm bad, a perk I'm using is dumb, etc when the match is anything in between.
So yeah am pretty biased towards them.
1 -
I have nothing against a TTV as long as they are alone.
If I see FOUR TTVs in one lobby, I will dodge that faster than a bullet in the Matrix.
I am not here to be a full Twitch crew's party clown.
7 -
First time I play normally, but if you're being a rude git when I watch the VOD back you go on the list.
0 -
Hey hope you are well 🐽💕
I am Normally very kind to TTV that are in my lobby I bring party streamers and try to give them the most funnest match I can possibly give ...why do I do this I have seen it plenty of times as a survivor a TTV be completely singled out tunneled camp and I know it's a thing that happens I am sorry that it does.
I hope that I can at least brighten your day alittle bit 🐷💖
2 -
Not necessary.
But many, especially the younger generation, have been poisoned by the insidious "Hey guys! What's happening? How y'all doing? Like and subscribe!" culture that's put rot in to the characters of several sheep.
2 -
Lmao as if.
I have alot of undeniable proof to back it up too.
For example, just last night I switched my name to Nemmy TTV and by the end of the night, I was t bagging and flashlight clicking at the speed of The Flash, and dc'ing at the hint of any inconvenience in match.
Oh and not to mention the great, sweet sweet ggez's in end game chats.
But the odd thing was, when I changed my name back to normal, all of a sudden I was wholesome chungus 420...I stopped gen rushing and I started telling every killer gg have fun out there.
0 -
It's an odd one really, there have been several threads on this forum gloating about targeting streamers, as well as demanding 'pay' from streamers they go against as they somehow think they're the reason people watch the stream.
It absolutely doesn't make you 'toxic' (a word thrown around far too often in dbd) but there are absolutely some people who see TTV and from that point on all they see is red.
2 -
TTVs are not toxic. Toxic people are toxic, regardless if they are Streamers who put TTV in their name, Streamers who dont put TTV in their name or regular players.
But the DBD Killer-Community seems to have some hate against Streamers for whatever reason.
But most Streamers are just normal people with some viewers. Especially in DBD, it is very rare to find Streamers who have a high viewcount in most games, because it is not easy to get viewers with DBD as the main game, just because the way how twitch works. If you look up for the DBD-Category you can filter for smaller Channels, but most wont do that and only see the big channels.
And especially players who put TTV in their Profile will not have a high viewerbase, they are advertising their stream to get more viewers. You wont see TTV often when you face a Streamer who has a somewhat big viewerbase.
Most TTVs I have seen (which means way above 90%) have been nice people. And I like to watch the VOD when playing against them or with them. But most of the time they are not even streaming.

I'd hate streamers a lot less if they didn't put the link to their twitch channel in the post-game chat after winning. No, I'm not going to stroke your ego any further by becoming your viewer, you pathetic little narcissist.
2 -
Some are, because just like anyone else they're people. And some people are jerks.
0 -
I don't like those TTVs who don't actually stream.
0 -
i dodge TTVs as killer or survivor if i see one in the lobby.
0 -
I think Twitch is parasitic but I understand wanting to share your TTV to get views and subs. I don't really care what people call themselves in game.
0 -
I don’t think TTV players are any ruder than other players. I’ve had plenty of polite TTV people in chat after a game. At worst TTV players might showboat a little more since they enjoy the attention. 🤷♂️
0 -
I've run across a large number of TTV's, and for almost all of them, they've been normal people, just having fun, and no more "toxic" than the non-TTV players I come across in my games. I usually will pop into their chats after games to drop a follow and wish them a GG and good luck in their future matches. I've only had two TTV's that I really have had "bad" experiences with (and one of those wasn't bad, as much as it was funny).
Bad sportsmanship and immaturity in and out of game is a condition of a particular person, and not the letters in their screen name,
0 -
All "TTVs" I ever met were either offline during the game or had like 3 to 5 viewers, stat-gathering bots included. So basically there is not much difference between so called "TTVs" and ordinary players.
1 -
Ehh sometimes.

Generalisations get us nowhere as a community.
Twitch is just a streaming platform, it's not some exclusive club - some people stream to pursue a passion of making money playing games, others do it for a fun hobby and others do it to make an absolute donkey of themselves.
The only difference between streamers and regular people when it comes to making a donkey of yourself is that one is broadcasted and the other is typically left within the confines of your room or wherever your computer is
Although if you're a streamer, don't link your channel in the chats, If I'm playing the game I'm not gonna stop and watch a random streamer. Time and place.
0 -
The generalization is fair. The type of people who want to stream are more likely to not act in a way that basically everyone dislikes. As evidenced by the heavy bias against them that doesn't exist in other games. So weird.
0 -
Your post confuses me a bit so if my response also seems a bit confusing please forgive me
I understand that streamers in general have stigmas around them, and of course there are many who like I mentioned - make donkeys of themselves on a platform live infront of people
What bothers me is the notion that you're 'toxic' purely because you decide to stream on a platform. It's like saying you're 'toxic' because you main one side in the game - you could argue it but it wouldn't be fair imo
What makes the generalisation fair to you, exactly? I'd like to know if you don't mind.
0 -
That's my experience with TTVs as well. They never have anything nice to say about the killer player. They're always trash or a baby or ######### etc. Not sure why people think that will earn them more viewers lol. Would never subscribe to a player like that
0 -
You say that but funnily enough that's more representative of your average DBD player, no? (Not intended as an insult, I fall into that category myself)
I mean have we all not complained about the game, a match, a certain player and so on before? At least once?
Only difference is they decided to broadcast it live, so I guess there's different standards
The ones who make it personal or tell people to catch deadly dieases, yeah screw 'em.
0 -
I am not saying the generalization is accurate, I am just saying it exists for a reason. It was not arbitrary. I personally feel, because of the mechanics of this game, and the us vs them, that the issue is much more prominent in this game than others. People would not avoid them like the plague, otherwise. You know? It is not a small amount that actively go out of their way to ruin the experience.
To be fair, I was more or less arguing against the typical "generalizations are bad, m'kay" argument as opposed to your very specific point. And for that, I apologize for the confusion. It was more intended as a piggy back off your post than me genuinely trying to refute anything you said.
1 -
Ah fair, I appreciate your response! Thanks for your time
You are right, the us vs them thing is a big dbd problem and it's not typically present in most other games. I've not played other asym games enough to know of any other examples.
1 -
its a video game dude. nobody is personally shaming you/harassing you by teabagging.
1 -
Just because you can't hear what people who dont stream are saying, doesn't mean they are being toxic.
The reason some people find TTVs toxic, is because they can hear their thoughts. People who don't stream will have the same thoughts, if not worse, but they aren't sharing it live.
So no, being a TTV doesnt make you toxic. Being toxic makes you toxic.
0 -
Oh my sweet summer child, you atr still so naive to the ways of the world. May you keep your innocence just a bit longer; we could all beenfit from it, were the world just a bit different.
2 -
You are telling me they do not want to share their passion and love of tea with strangers? I personally love lemon iced tea, what about you, good sir?
0 -
I recently came into the possession of a cold brewed green tea, that I like a lot. But you don't need to t-bag it, so no need to be rude to strangers.
0 -
From my experience most TTVS are very friendly, it’s just people that wanna promote their channels. It’s nothing about toxicity or anything like that.
0 -
That happens in literally every game that has ever existed. You're eventually going to piss someone off whether u like it or not.
0 -
Some of them are,I went to this girls stream when I didn't really hook anyone maybe 4 or 5 hooks but hooked her twice in she was calling me a ######### afterwards that Nemesis was a #########
And another time ever chase,I down someone one with my power,I got one kill but basically managed to hook ever one twice.Everytime I, chased the ttv she complained.Even at the slightest bit of pressure, she got mad and upset then at the end when 3 escaped she type ez clap bois, then went on to say,I was bad.
Some of them are really cool and fun about the game Twekky is really fun to hang out with.Ive never went but from the match we had she was really cool about it.
0 -
God forbid that survivors have a little bit of skill,if you kill them then they complain that the killer is two strong.
0 -
If you play against a group or piss off a group on your same team in ANY video game, they will still chew your ass for it. Solos who fill in for a swf even get yelled at for things they did in the match.
These problems are not killer exclusive and definitely not DBD exclusive. Whenever you stop taking it as a personal attack it stops being effective. Just say gg and leave the lobby.

TTVs can go either way. People try to control the impression they make when they know they have an audience. If they want to give the impression that they're cool-headed and professional, the TTVs go out of their way to be polite. If they want to give the impression that they're irreverent comedians who can't be controlled by social expectations, they go out of their way to be rude.
Personally, I know there are a lot of people on TTV who no one has ever heard of, who are just trying to break into streaming and not really doing anything wrong, so I don't care if someone has TTV in their name. But I think some people probably imagine the worst, rudest possible version of who it could be every time.
0 -
I don't think a lot of people think this way, although there's the occasional oddball. It is a common occurrence though. I usually check out a TTV to look back at how I played. If they're nice/aren't rude, I'll give them a follow. If they're calling me names, saying some mean crap, I obviously won't follow and just go on to the next game.
Although the fact that I haven't followed many of them tends to say a lot. Of course I won't quickly assume just because you have it in your name.
