Hex: Pentimento
So I tried to see about making this perk work. I don't know if it was the map or just extremely well coordinated SWF but it's not viable. They should've released it before boons. I used Plaything and Retribution. Sure enough they broke all 5 totems. So after that I went to relight but within 2 seconds of relighting they broke them again. I don't know if someone was tailing me or what but to be fair the totem spawns were so stupidly obvious on that crow map it's ridiculous. Someone let me know if they could make it work

They should be able to be rekindled an infinite amount of times.

You really shouldn't be trying to rekindle 5 totems. Just 2 is enough, if you run Ruin + Undying well then they have to cleanse 4 totems to get rid of all of the powerful effects. It's kind of nuts and I'm surprised nobody uses it.

You have to dedicate builds to pull off penimento tho. It's good when it works but the risk is to high to use this in any permanent build.
I've had luck with it, but far more times than not the bones get destroyed quickly. I feel like deadlock scorge hooks do well, add in ruin or pop. 3 gen regression perks and an aura perk tends to slow the game down some to where it's noticeable.
Penimento is just to risky and works sometimes from my experience. I don't like having to dedicate 3 perks to a penimento build. They break ruin and undying then your left with penimento, and that gets busted once they figure out you have it.
I just don't see the value.

I’ve gotten value from it but it’s not very consistent and needs a lot of things to go right for it to work.
Not only do you need survivors to cleanse totems (as opposed to blessing your other hexes) you then also need them to not be cleansed again 30 seconds after rekindling.
Nobody just cleanses dull totems anymore so you basically need plaything and/or a bunch of other hex perks to make it work.

That gotta fix the blessing Hex totems thing. I don't care it takes a long time people still do it

Just for reference though, if they spend 10 seconds to run over and spend 14 seconds destroying your new Hex while you have someone hooked and are chasing a third survivor, that’s no gens getting done for 25 seconds worst case. More likely though is someone stays on a gen for 60 seconds, for example, then the Hex gets cleansed which takes an additional 25 seconds. That 60 seconds on a gen at 30% slowdown means they effectively lost about 18 seconds of progression, so all totaled one Hex Pentimento would get you about 50 seconds of lost gen progression in that case, which is about two and a half Pop Goes the Weasel procs.
So basically even if the hex is cleansed again after 60-90 seconds you’ve gotten good slowdown from it. And if you manage to get multiple totems they add up pretty quickly to a fairly large net slowdown. Even the worst case it’ll get 25 seconds per hex you put up.

Oh for sure, you get something even if it’s cleansed immediately, it just has the potential to do way more than that.

Right, I just think there are a lot of people who seem to think if you can’t get five of them out it’s “garbage”, I think they’re underestimating the benefit of even a few.

Tbh I think it’s a waste to even try going for more than 1 or 2 at a time. If there’s 3 totems cleansed I’ll only reset one or two and won’t do the third until one is cleansed again.
I’d rather have 2 or 3 separate periods of time with 30% gen slowdown than have those overlap with each other in exchange for 30% slower recovery. Slowing down healing can be nice though.

Pentimento is all about creating win win situations for you. Bring Ruin, Undying, Thrill or Ruin and 2 hexes of your choice (Blood favor, Lullaby, Retro, etc) so that if they cleanse they waste a ton of times cleansing/booning totems. If they don't you have 3 powerful hexes active. The game you described has them cleansing 5 totems (A win) activating Pentimento (a win) and them re cleansing again (a win). If you still lost with the effects of hexes, time spent cleansing, time spent cleansing again well then you played bad.
Also there is no reason what so ever to re kindle more than 2 totems at a time. stage 3-5 are ass and the odds of getting that fifth are rare. Better to keep 2 active and when they find and cleanse activate another. Plaything + Pentimento is fine too....always seems to be at least one who can't handle being oblivious.

I agree. Rekindling also should take 24 seconds each time

Than I should have 3 other killers to help me

Yeah, it’s probably a close call, I could see an argument the other way that having extras up as a buffer to protect the gen regression could be useful too. But either way I totally agree that going for the grand slam 5 isn’t effective.

Like I said I was able to get maybe 2 at most but they'd cleanse them within seconds of me relighting. Maybe I should've picked a faster killer instead of nurse

That sounds horrible. And I dunno why snuffing boons won't break the totems yet.
0 -
Well on account of Boons no one breaks totems anymore so it would likely show up to be quite niche.

Hex Pentimento: The Hex that requires Survivors to cleanse.
Boon Totems: A mechanic that encourages Survivors to not cleanse.
Boy, real thought went into that Killer hex, huh? 'Let's add a hex based on Cleansing at literally the same time we make Cleansing outdated. That will make Killers happy! 🙃'

I think the devs wanted to make totems a "mini-game" for the survivors and killers.
They arent doing it well, I admit.

You cannot boon a pentimento totem, Pentimento would be more viable if killers could at least choose to snuff or destroy the totem instead.

Yes, so no one will break the totem so they can use their boons.
So pentimento rarely gets value.

They light so fast that I usually run it with other totems like plaything so they get broken easily and light 1 at a time, wastes some time and easy to set and forget for slowdown on gen speed.

What I do is bless one and cleanse the rest. When it’s an artist tho it’s difficult because they run both perimento and noed

Good thing TotH completely fixes that issue.
