Is "close ambush" a thing?

I was playing with friends against a pig. The killer brought a midwich offering and had amandas letter and the addon that adds extra bear traps.

We all kept getting downed because she was ambush attacking us but there was no sound notification (the lion roar sound).

Usually when i play against a pig if i know shes nearby and sneaking around i camp a pallet or window and wait for her lion roar to know to drop the pallet or vault the window. She downed me and my friends several times because we were playing expecting the sound notification that never came.

I called them out on it in post game chat and they claimed that it was "close ambushing" and said that if shes looking at one person while charging it but goes for someone else nearby (since she can see us due to amandas letter) the other person wont hear the lion roar sound.

Sounds pretty sus to me but maybe im wrong? Ive played as pig myself plenty and never knew about this.

I checked their profile and it turns out theyre on epic games, not steam.

Was this a hacker or is "close ambushing" a thing?

    Could be either. For a while if you were not looking directly at Bubba / Billy as they charged the saw it was totally silent. So more audio bugs would not be surprising in the slightest.

    There is also no real reason for a hacker to bring in a wallhacks addon either.

    Is there a possibility she was uncrouching instead of ambushing?

    Sometimes Bubba's chainsaw is completely silent if I'm not looking directly at him so it might just be an audio bug.

    If anything its a audio glitch. The roar is not played at the start of the ambush but during the charge up. Doesn't matter how close she is to you.
